A study on the Influencing Factors to China-Pakistan Trade under BRI Initiative

The Belt and Road Initiative is a grand plan proposed by China to promote the common development and prosperity of China and its partner countries. With the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the flagship of the Belt and Road Initiative, China-Pakistan relations are getting closer, known as the “iron brother”. Economic cooperation is a key priority for both sides. Under the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, this study uses trade data of China and Pakistan to find out the bilateral trade problems and the influencing factors behind them. This study will discuss the above questions and propose some suggestions for policymakers. Specifically, the discussion of the problems was conducted in terms of GDP, population, comparative advantages, international environment, domestic environment, and other factors respectively. In the conclusion part, the author suggests that the two countries should try to improve their domestic/international environment and reduce policy barriers to promote the trade. Modern industrial parks are encouraged to solve the problems. This study on the influencing factors and economic trade relations between China and Pakistan hopes to provide some academic references to the study of the CPEC and provide some guidance to the policy makers.
Simulation of a neutron imaging detector prototype based on SiPM array readout

Neutron imaging technology as a means of non-destructive detection of materials is complementary to X-ray imaging. Silicon photomultiplier (SiPM), a new type of optical readout device, has overcome some shortcomings of traditional photomultiplier tube (PMT), such as high-power consumption, large volume, high price, uneven gain response, and inability to work in strong magnetic fields. Its application in the field of neutron detection will be an irresistible general trend. In this paper, a thermal neutron imaging detector based on 6 LiF/ZnS scintillation screen and SiPM array readout was developed. The design of the detector geometry was optimized by geant4 Monte Carlo simulation software. The optimized detector was evaluated with a step wedge sample. The results show that the detector prototype with a 48 mm 48 mm sensitive area can achieve about 38% detection efficiency and 0.26 mm position resolution when using a 300 mm thick 6 LiF/ZnS scintillation screen and a 2 mm thick Bk7 optical guide coupled with SiPM array, and has good neutron imaging capability. It provides effective data support for developing high-performance imaging detectors applied to the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS).

The main goal of this study is to investigate the eff ect of local corrosion at the mid-span region on the fl exural behavior of HPS (high-performance steel) beams. Four Q550E HPS beams were designed and subjected to electrochemically accelerated corrosion. The 3D scanning technology was used to analyze the geometric characteristics of corrosion regions. After the fourpoint fl exural test, the relationship between the degradation of fl exural behavior and the corrosion ratio or corroded location (right side of pure bending section and lower half of pure bending section) was studied in details. The FE (fi nite element) model of corroded HPS beams was established and strictly verifi ed by comparing with the tested results. Additionally, different heights and thicknesses of the corroded parts were considered in the FE models. Failure modes and bearing capacity degradation of the HPS beams caused by local corrosion were studied by analyzing above parameters. The results shows that the corrosion at the compressive fl ange of bending section has a greater infl uence on the ultimate bearing capacity than tension fl ange and web. The HPS beam corroded in right side of pure bending section has the most signifi cant compressive fl ange buckling compared. The failure mode of HPS beams with corrosion in lower half of pure bending section changes from obviously compressive fl ange buckling and local web yielded to all web yielded with the increase of corrosion ratio. The infl uence of bottom fl ange corrosion on remaining critical buckling load of beam is slightly more signifi cant than the ultimate load, but the infl uence degree of top fl ange corrosion on above two loads are basically the same.

The construction industry is a high debt ratio, high operating risk and high financial leverage business. The financial instability causes a chain reaction among funds transferred among companies, therefore restricting competitiveness within the industry. The industry’s character and accounting principles of firm-years are different from that of other industries. Creating a hypothetical model of a financial crisis within the construction industry is therefore necessary. Application of this model to real scenarios involving relevant parties can help to forecast a financial crisis in the future. This study applied the market-based model, accounting-based model, hybrid models to predict a financial crisis. These models were then compared to find which can best predict a company that will default. Also, in this paper choosing variables for the Hybrid and Accounting-based models can promote their performance. Finally, the best can be selected for predicting stability.

The retinoid-related orphan nuclear receptor gamma (RORγ) plays critical roles in regulation of development, immunity and metabolism. As transcription factor usually forms a protein complex to function, thus capturing and dissecting of the RORγ protein complex will be helpful for exploring the mechanisms underlying those functions. After construction of the recombinant tandem affinity purification (TAP) plasmid, pMSCVpuro RORγ-CTAP(SG), the nuclear localization of RORγ-CTAP(SG) fusion protein was verified. Following isolation of RORγ protein complex by TAP strategy, seven candidate interacting proteins were identified. Finally, the heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) and receptor-interacting protein 140 (RIP140) were confirmed to interplay with RORγ by co-immunoprecipitation. Interference of HSP90 or/and RIP140 genes resulted in dramatically decreased expression of CYP2C8 gene, the RORγ target gene. Data from this study demonstrate that HSP90 and RIP140 proteins interact with RORγ protein in a complex format and function as co-activators in the RORγ-mediated regulatory processes of HepG2 cells. Endemic species of oceanic islands are vulnerable due to their geographical isolation and small population sizes. For endangered island species, captive breeding program is an important strategy for conservation and sustainable management. Pachyrhynchus sarcitis is a flightless weevil decorated with colourful markings and distributed exclusively on several islets of Southeast Asia including Lanyu, Ludao, and Babuyan Islands. The life history of threatened Pachyrhynchus species of these islands was poorly known. This study reared P. sarcitis from Lanyu and Babuyan Islands for the first time in the laboratory using their host plant (Leea guineensis). The two island populations showed significant differences in instar numbers, in which the weevils from Lanyu Island had a higher instar number regardless the length of developmental duration. The adult body size of both sexes of the Babuyan population became smaller under laboratory condition; whereas Lanyu population in the laboratory did not show this trend. The differences in larval development might suggest local adaptation to the host plants or other life history associated characteristics which requires further research.

Two new high-nitrogen energetic compounds ZTO·2H2O and ZTO(phen)·H2O have been synthesized (where ZTO = 4,4-azo-1,2,4-triazol-5-one and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline). The crystal structure, elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy are presented. Compound 1 ZTO·2H2O crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system with space group Pnna and compound 2 ZTO(phen)·H2O in the triclinic crystal system with space group P-1. In ZTO(phen)·H2O, there is intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the -NH group of ZTO molecule (as donor) and N atom of phen molecule (as acceptor). Thermal decomposition process is studied by applying the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo thermogravimetric differential analysis (TG-DTG). The DSC curve shows that there is one exothermic peak in ZTO·2H2O and ZTO(phen)·H2O, respectively. The critical temperature of thermal explosion (Tb) for ZTO·2H2O and ZTO(phen)·H2O is 282.21 oC and 195.94 oC, respectively.

A new species, Cephonodes sanshaensis Deng & Huang, sp. nov. is described from Xisha islands nearSansha City, China. Photographs of the adults and their genitalia are provided. The new species is similarto C. hylas (Linnaeus, 1771) and C. picus (Cramer, 1777) but can be easily distinguished by characters in themale genitalia: the right lobe of the uncus is hook-shaped with distinctly acute apex, the left valva is longand narrow with a truncate apex, and the right valva is broad and knife-shaped. Molecular analysis basedon cytochrome c oxidase I gene barcode sequences is used to infer the phylogenetic position of the newspecies within the genus Cephonodes. An updated key and checklist to the worldwide species of thegenus Cephonodes are also provided.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a promising source for cell-based treatment of myocardial infarction (MI), but existing strategies are restricted by low cell survival and engraftment. We examined whether SDF-1 transfection improve MSC viability and paracrine action in infarcted hearts. We found SDF-1-modified MSCs effectively expressed SDF-1 for at least 21days after exposure to hypoxia. The apoptosis of Ad-SDF-1-MSCs was 42% of that seen in Ad-EGFP-MSCs and 53% of untreated MSCs. In the infarcted hearts, the number of DAPI-labeling cells in the Ad-SDF-1-MSC group was 5-fold that in the Ad-EGFP-MSC group. Importantly, expression of antifibrotic factor, HGF, was detected in cultured MSCs, and HGF expression levels were higher in Ad-SDF-MSC-treated hearts, compared with Ad-EGFP-MSC or control hearts. Compared with the control group, Ad-SDF-MSC transplantation significantly decreased the expression of collagens I and III and matrix metalloproteinase 2 and 9, but heart function was improved in d-SDF-MSC-treated animals. In conclusion, SDF-1-modified MSCs enhanced the tolerance of engrafted MSCs to hypoxic injury in vitro and improved their viability in infarcted hearts, thus helping preserve the contractile function and attenuate left ventricle (LV) remodeling, and this may be at least partly mediated by enhanced paracrine signaling from MSCs via antifibrotic factors such as HGF.
