• A Study on the Expression of the Islam Pattern in the Modern Fashion

        Heejeong Hyun,Jaejung Lee,Eulyo Yun (사)한국디지털디자인협의회 2007 (사)한국디지털디자인협의회 conference Vol.2007 No.1

In modern society, the esthetic sense of humanity has been changed in line with the improvement of the standard of living and the formative beauty of the time. It has even been more varied with such trends as individuation and reestablishment of personal identities. Practically, this phenomenon is closely linked to the flow reflecting the third world cultures on fashion, which has been alienated in terms of the value of freshness and desire for uniqueness. In other words, the stream of modern fashion that reflects the third world cultures and the introduction of ethnic styles have something to do with each other in terms of the basic thought. The unique motif being highlighted in a new perspective os manifested with new materials and methods, rather than mere manifestation; it is sublimated to a contemporary, original creative work representing unique imagination as the fountainhead of inspiration for design. Thus, this study classifies the unique features and rich color system of Islamic patterns which are mostly diverse and complicated according to the cultural areas (Saracen style, Ottoman Style, Moor style), and draws up and reorganizes the features – repetition, continuity, infinity – of the organic, geometrical patterns appearing in these style so as to clarify how they are being used in modern fashion. Besides, based on this motif, the possibilities of designing new patterns will be presented and the representation range of design will be expanded.

Analytic Hierarchy Process for Prioritizing Radiation Safety Measures in Medical Institutions

        Hyun Suk Kim,Heejeong Jeong,문형빈,Sang Hyun Park 대한방사선방어학회 2024 방사선방어학회지 Vol.49 No.1

Background: This study aimed to prioritize policy measures to improve radiation safety management in medical institutions using the analytic hierarchy process. Materials and Methods: It adopted three policy options—engineering, education, and enforcement— to categorize safety management measures, the so-called Harvey’s 3Es. Then, the radiation safety management measures obtained from the current system and other studies were organized into action plan categories. Using the derived model, this study surveyed 33 stakeholders of radiation safety management in medical institutions and analyzed the importance of each measure. Results and Discussion: As a result, these stakeholders generally identified enforcement as the most important factor for improving the safety management system. The study also found that radiation safety officers and medical physicists perceived different measures as important, indicating clear differences in opinions among stakeholders, especially in improving quality assurance in radiation therapy. Hence, the process of coordination and consensus is likely to be critical in improving the radiation safety management system. Conclusion: Stakeholders in the medical field consider enforcement as the most critical factor in improving their safety management systems. Specifically, the most crucial among the six specific action plans was the “reinforcement of the organization and workforce for safety management,” with a relative importance of 25.7%.

Effect of self-administered foot reflexology for symptom management in healthy persons: A systematic review and meta-analysis

        Song, Hyun Jin,Son, Heejeong,Seo, Hyun-Ju,Lee, Heeyoung,Choi, Sun Mi,Lee, Sanghun Elsevier 2015 Complementary Therapies in Medicine Vol.23 No.1

Summary

Objectives

Self-administered foot reflexology is unrestricted by time and space, economical, and practical because it is easy to learn and apply. This study estimated the effectiveness of self-foot reflexology for symptom management in healthy persons through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Methods

The participants were healthy persons not diagnosed with a specific disease. The intervention was foot reflexology administered by participants, not by practitioners or healthcare providers. The comparative studies either between groups or within group comparison were included. Our search utilized core databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, and CINAHL). We also searched Chinese (CNKI), Japanese (J-STAGE), and Korean databases (KoreaMed, KMbase, KISS, NDSL, KISTI, and OASIS). The search was used MeSH terminology and key words (foot reflexology, foot massage, and self).

Results

Analysis of three non-randomized trials and three before-and-after studies showed that self-administered foot reflexology resulted in significant improvement in subjective outcomes such as perceived stress, fatigue, and depression. However, there was no significant improvement in objective outcomes such as cortisol levels, blood pressure, and pulse rate. We did not find any randomized controlled trial.

Conclusions

This study presents the effectiveness of self-administered foot reflexology for healthy persons’ psychological and physiological symptoms. While objective outcomes showed limited results, significant improvements were found in subjective outcomes. However, owing to the small number of studies and methodological flaws, there was insufficient evidence supporting the use of self-performed foot reflexology. Well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to assess the effect of self-administered foot reflexology in healthy people.

Highlights

This systematic review assessed the effectiveness of self-foot reflexology for symptom management in healthy persons.

Three non-randomized trials and three before-and-after studies without comparison showed that self-administered foot reflexology appeared to improve subjective outcomes rather than objective health outcomes.

Owing to the small number of studies and methodological flaws, there was insufficient evidence supporting the use of self-performed foot reflexology to alleviate symptoms in healthy people.

Vol.2009 No.6

In this study, friction and wear of stainless steel was examined as functions of time, speed, load, and grinding fluids. Surface roughness and the friction coefficient were monitored during tribotests using a block-on-disk tester. The surface roughness of the steel after tests was strongly affected by the load and type of grinding fluid used during grinding. Results showed that the steel ground with mineral oil as grinding fluid showed high surface roughness while the coefficient of friction was lower than other cases. In this paper, the possible mechanism for this salient result is discussed, providing a possible methodology for improving corrosion resistance of the steel surface after grinding operation.

      • Dense Assembly of Soluble Acene Crystal Ribbons and Its Application to Organic Transistors

        Jeong, Heejeong,Han, Singu,Baek, Seolhee,Kim, Se Hyun,Lee, Hwa Sung American Chemical Society 2016 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.8 No.37

The preparation of uniform large-area highly crystalline organic semiconductor single crystals remains a challenge in the field of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Crystal densities in the channel regions of OFETs have not yet reached sufficiently high values to provide efficient charge transport, and improving channel crystal densities remains an important research area. Herein we fabricated densely well-aligned single crystal arrays of the 6,13bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)pentacene (TIPS_PEN) semiconductor using a straightforward scooping-up (SU) methodology to quickly produce a large-area self-assembled semiconductor crystal layer. The resulting crystalline TIPS_PEN strip arrays obtained using the SU method revealed a packing density that was 2.76 times the value obtained from the dip-coated channel, and the mean interspatial distance between the crystal strips decreased from 21.5 to 7.8 yin: The higher crystal packing density provided efficient charge transport in the FET devices and directly yielded field-effed mobilities as high as 2.16 cm(2)/(V s). These field-effect mobilities were more than three times the values obtained from the OFETs prepared using dip-coated channels. Furthermore, the contact resistance between the source/drain electrodes and the TIPS_PEN crystals decreased by a factor of 2. These contributions represent a significant step forward in improving semiconductor crystal alignment for the fabrication of large-area high-performance organic electronics.

Vol.20 No.3

This paper aims at developing specific teaching methods and practices that can be utilized in the English literature classroom, using theories based on critical pedagogy. Critical literacy, which applies the important concepts of critical pedagogy to literary eduction, provides specific questions for delving into literary texts. In a classroom that educates critical literacy, students no longer remain as merely passive recipients of the teacher’s instruction; rather, students perform an active role in a discussion-oriented classroom and foster the ability to read texts in critical and creative ways. Especially, parody texts can function as effective material in teaching students to attain critical literacy. Parody texts tend to encourage students to engage in an in-depth examination of the original text, as their differences from the original text raise interesting issues that can be addressed in relation to social/historical contexts. For example, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Bridget Jones’s Diary both re-write Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in their own ways and reveal important points in revisiting central themes and problems of the original text. Among those, this paper focus on gender roles, the institution of marriage, and social class, suggesting the ways in which the teacher can lead students to compare and contrast the texts. Students are expected to approach critically important issues such as the representation of the ideal woman, the meaning of marriage, and socially constructed tastes of the past and the present. Also, they may further develop their understanding by producing their own re-writes of Pride and Prejudice in diverse ways, responding actively to the social problems that surround their lives.
