`Background : Pancreatoduodenectomy is a widely used technique in the treatment of periampullary, duodenal and cephalic pancreatic disease. Although many improvements have been made in operative technique and posmiddleerative care, pancreatoduodenectomy remains a technically difficult procedure attended by relatively high morbidity and mortality rates. Materials and methods : The hospital records of 51 patients who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy at the Chosun University Hospital between 1994 and 2001 were reviewed. Clinical data and the following morbidity and mortality were recorded The risk factors were analyzed by a Chi-square test. Results : Fifth decade was the most prevalent ages (43.1%) The mean age was 59 years (ranging from 29 to 78) and the male to female ratio was 26 to 1. The periampullary cancer was the most reason to operation (86%) and injury due to trauma, adenocarcinoma of stomach, colon cancer, chronic pancreatitis in order Posmiddleerative complications were developed in seventeen patients and anastomotic leakage was the most common complication Death within a month after operation was 3 (5.8%) and the one of the cause of death was leakage in two patients, the other cause was intraadbominal bleeding in one patients. The cardiovascular disease, pulomnary problem, diabetes, level of bilirubin were checked preoperatively and showed no statistical difference in the posmiddleerative morbidity. The other factors such as amount of bleeding, operation time were not influencing posmiddleerative complications. The occurrence of leakage in eight cases of drainage tuve inserted into the pancreaticojejunostomy site was not different from no tuve insertion statistically Conclusion: old age of the patients, diabetes mellitus and massive intraoperative hemorrhage are the risk factors influencing the results after pancreatoduodenectomy. Morbidity and mortality after pancreatoduodenctomy can be devreased if a prudent selection of paients is made and the operation is performed by accomplushed surgeon.

Pantograph sliding plate abrasion auto-detect system, one of the electric rail car auto-detecting devices, is a system that decides how much abrasion and when to replace without an inspector physically looking at the abrasion on the wet plate using machine vision, a cutting-edge technology. This paper covers the cause of deteriorating reliability that affects pantograph wet plate edge detection due to noise added to the video when it rains. In order to remove such noise, problems should be checked through Smoothing, Averaging mask and Median filter using filtering technique and stable edge detection without being affected by noise should be induced in video measurement used in machine vision technology.

The Advanced countries including Japan, USA and European countries are adopting automatic system(e.g., auto-measurement using CCD camera) for measuring pantograph sliding plate and wheel abrasion to minimize manpower for E.M.U(Electric Multiple Unit) inspection and maintenance as part of management rationalization of railroad Corporation since late 1980"s. In Korea, as part of scheme of business rationalization, automatic system for measuring pantograph sliding plate and wheel abrasion started to draw industry attention since late 1990s, and the system started to be installed in newly built depots of Korea Railroad Corporation since 2002. This study hopefully provides the base for realizing business rationalization and applying the advanced technology developed by Korea, the country of powerful IT basis, to overseas railroad organizations by examining automatic system for measuring pantograph sliding plate abrasion using existing CCD cameras produced domestically and in foreign countries to study cases(organizations in Korea) for improvement of measurement, management and inspection of pantograph sliding plate abrasion using CCD cameras with new cutting-edge technology; and by applying the study result to railroad organizations in metropolitan areas in Korea.

In this study, we aimed to compare the morphogenetic and neuronal characteristics between monolayer cells and spheroids. For this purpose, we established spheroid formation by growing SH-SY5Y cells on the hydrophobic surfaces of thermally-collapsed elastin-like polypeptide. After 4 days of culture, the relative proliferation of the cells within spheroids was approximately 92% of the values for monolayer cultures. As measured by quantitative assays for mRNA and protein expressions, the production of synaptophysin and neuronspecific enolase (NSE) as well as the contents of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) and extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins are much higher in spheroids than in monolayer cells. Under the all-trans-retinoic acid (RA)-induced differentiation condition, spheroids extended neurites and further up-regulated the expression of synaptophysin, NSE, CAMs, and ECM proteins. Our data indicate that RA-differentiated SH-SY5Y neurospheroids are functionally matured neuronal architectures.

<P>The optimal timing of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with non–ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), complicated by acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF), is unclear. A total of 1,027 patients with NSTEMI complicated by ADHF who underwent successful PCI were analyzed using a Korean multicenter registry. All patients were divided into 4 groups by the timing of PCI: group 1 (PCI < 2 hour after admission, n = 149), group 2 (2 to 24 hours, n = 577), group 3 (24 to 72 hours, n = 189), and group 4 (≥72 hours, n = 112). We analyzed the incidences of 12-month mortality, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), target-vessel revascularization, and rehospitalization because of HF. The prevalence of ADHF in patients with NSTEMI was 15.2% at initial presentation, and in-hospital mortality was higher in group 1 than in the other groups. There were no significant differences in mortality, nonfatal MI, target-vessel revascularization, or rehospitalization for HF during the 12-month follow-up between groups, regardless of initial PCI timing, except for a higher 12-month mortality in patients who received PCI within 24 hours (vs ≥24 hours) (hazard ratio 1.52, 95% confidence interval 1.09 to 2.29, p = 0.046). Early PCI did not reduce adverse clinical outcomes in patients with NSTEMI complicated by ADHF. Delayed PCI after stabilization may be reasonable in such high-risk patients.</P>

This review aims to provide a technical roadmap and an overview of recent progress in the development of backplane thin film transistors (TFTs) for organic light-emitting diodes flat panel displays and next-generation flexible displays. In the introduction, we provide a general overview of the research trends for backplane TFTs. The main part describes the current technical level and prospects for amorphous metal oxide semiconducting, metal halide perovskites, and 2D transition metal dichalcogenides TFTs. The summary and prospects are provided in the conclusion section.
