<P>This paper presents the optimal rotor design method in a single-phase line-start permanent magnet motor (LSPM) considering the starting torque and efficiency. To consider nonlinear characteristics, the design process is comprised of the FEM and analytical method. During this study, permanent-magnets and cage bars were designed using the magnetic equivalent circuit method and the barriers that control all magnetic flux were designed using the FEM, and the tradeoff of starting torque and efficiency is controlled by weight function in Taguchi method simulation. Finally, the performance of the optimal model is compared with those of conventional models.</P>

0.2-1.1 mol. % Dy was doped in BaTiO3 ceramics and the doping effect of Dy on the microstructure and the dielectric properties including permittivity and breakdown voltage was studied. The addition of Dy in the BaTiO3 ceramics was found to enhance the dielectric properties, which are attributed to an increase in tetragonality and a significant reduction in the average grain size due to the suppressed grain growth. The doped Dy plays an essential role in the formation of the core-shell structure in the BaTiO3 grains. The 0.8 mol. % Dy-doped BaTiO3 ceramics presented the highest dielectric constant and breakdown voltage due to the increased tetragonality, a remarkably reduced average grain size, and a well-developed core-shell structure in the grains.

<P>This paper presents the design process of permanent magnets to enable a wide range of constant-power operation and reduce the torque ripple by using analytical and numerical methods in PMA-SynRM. For a wide range of constant-power operation, the minimum d-axis flux-linkage of the permanent magnet is designed to be close to zero. Moreover, the unbalanced flux density in each segment is adjusted by changing the size of each permanent magnet to reduce the torque ripple. Finally, control simulations and experiments will be conducted to prove the validity of the suggested process.</P>

Aims: We aimed to investigate the association between the change of muscle mass and change of fibrosis and steatosis in NAFLD patients. Methods: We analyzed 2,893 NAFLD subjects who had health check-up more than twice in St. Vincent’s Hospital between November 2009 and December 2017. NAFLD was diagnosed by ultrasound, and appendicular muscle mass (ASM) was assessed by Inbody 720, and Sarcopenia index was calculated as ASM divided by weight (SI%) and ASM divided by body mass index (SI-BMI). Non-invasive markers were used to evaluate the severity of hepatic fibrosis and steatosis; NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS), Fibrosis-4 (Fib-4) score, and Forn’s index for fibrosis, and hepatic steatosis index (HSI) and fatty liver index (FLI) for steatosis. Results: The mean age was 47.3±10.4 years, and 1956 subjects (67.6%) were male. Diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome were more prevalent in sarcopenic subjects (P<0.01), and non-invasive fibrosis and steatosis markers were higher in sarcopenic subjects (P< 0.01). The mean interval between two health check-up was 39.8±21.9 months. There was no significant association between the change of NFS, Fib-4, and Forn’s index and the change of SI% and SI-BMI (all P >0.1). However, the changes of HIS and FLI were significantly associated with the change of SI% and SI-BMI (all P<0.01). Multivariate logistic analysis demonstrated the independent association between the change of skeletal muscle mass and the changes of non-invasive steatosis markers after adjusting for other confounding factors (all P< 0.001). However, the changes of non-invasive fibrosis markers did not show an independent association with the change of appendicular muscle mass after adjusting for other confounders (all P >0.1) Conclusions: The change of muscle mass is strongly associated with the change of hepatic steatosis, but not the change of fibrosis.

The attention in construction Automation is getting higher since it could be the answer to the lack of skilled labor by decrease in construction population and aging which adversely affects productivity and quality in the construction site. We are on the way to develop a construction automation system adequate for domestic circumstances in Korea; it is called RCA(Robotic-crane based Construction Automation)system. Climbing hydraulic robots system is a part of RCA system and makes Construction factory(CF) climb through the guide rail on the core wall. The safety of climbing hydraulic robots system is at issue due to the overloaded weight of CF. Preventing this issue, present study did the design verification through the structural analysis and the simulation. Mock-up test also was done to analyze the drive performance of climbing hydraulic robots system.

<P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P><P></P><ce:figure id='fig0020'></ce:figure> <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Astragalin (kaempferol-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-glucopyranoside, Ast) glucosides were synthesized by the acceptor reaction of a dextransucrase produced by <I>Leuconostoc mesenteroides</I> B-512FMCM with astragalin and sucrose. Each glucoside was purified and their structures were assigned as kaempferol-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)-<I>O</I>-α-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-glucopyranoside (or kaempferol-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-nigeroside, Ast-G1′) and kaempferol-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-glucopyranosyl-(1→6)-<I>O</I>-α-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-glucopyranoside (or kaempferol-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-isomaltoside, Ast-G1) for one glucose transferred, and kaempferol-3-<I>O</I>-β-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-isomaltooligosacharide (Ast-IMO or Ast-Gn; <I>n</I>=2–8). The astragalin glucosides exhibited 8.3–60.6% higher inhibitory effects on matrix metalloproteinase-1 expression, 18.8–20.3% increased antioxidant effects, and 3.8–18.8% increased inhibition activity of melanin synthesis compared to control (without the addition of compound), depending on the number of glucosyl residues linked to astragalin. These novel compounds could be used to further expand the industrial applications of astragalin glucosides, in particular in the cosmetics industry.</P>
Apoptotic Activity of Curcumin and EF-24 in HTB-41 Human Salivary Gland Epidermoid Carcinoma Cells

Curcumin (diferuloylmethane), a constituent of turmeric powder derived from the rhizome of Curcuma longa, has been shown to inhibit the growth of various types of cancer cells by regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis. However, a need exists to design more effective analogs because of curcumin's poor intestinal absorption. EF-24 (diphenyl difluoroketone), the monoketone analog of curcumin, has shown good efficacy in anticancer screens. However, the effects of curcumin and EF-24 on salivary gland epidermoid carcinoma cells are not clearly established. The main goal of this study was to investigate the effects of curcumin and EF-24 on cell growth and induction of apoptosis in human salivary gland epidermoid carcinoma cells. Our studies showed that curcumin and EF-24 inhibited the growth of HTB-41 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner, and the potency of EF-24 was > 34-fold that of curcumin. Treatment with curcumin or EF-24 resulted in nuclear condensation and fragmentation in HTB-41 cells, whereas the control HTB-41 cell nuclei retained their normal regular and oval shape. Curcumin and EF-24 promoted proteolytic cleavages of procaspase-3/-7/-9, resulting in an increase in the amount of cleaved caspase-3/-7/-9 in the HTB-41 cells. Caspase-3 and -7 activities were detected in viable HTB-41 cells treated with curcumin or EF-24. These results suggest that the curcumin and EF-24 inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in HTB-41 human salivary gland epidermoid carcinoma cells, and that they may have potential properties as an anti-cancer drug therapy.
