Detection of Powdery Mildew of Bitter Gourd Based on NIR/Fluorescence Spectra

        Gao Jia Yu,Wei Dong Zheng,Wang Xiang,Tang Jin Cheng,Xu Ji Tong,Zhao Ping,Ning Xiao Feng 한국농업기계학회 2023 바이오시스템공학 Vol.48 No.3

Purpose Powdery mildew as one of the common vegetable diseases has very rapid infection. Its outbreak will bring about disastrous consequences to vegetable output; thus, it is of key importance to do rapid identifi cation and prevention of powdery mildew. Methods In this test, 100 bitter gourd leaves were collected as research samples, and the data of near-infrared spectra, fl uorescence spectra, and chromatic values L*a*b* , and the classic K-S algorithm was adopted to divide the sample sets; then, the quantitative forecasting and qualitative discrimination models were established. First, Pearson’s correlation analysis was carried out to fi nd the feasibility of taking a * as the modeling parameter, through cross-validation; the quantitative forecasting model was optimized by the PLSR (partial least squares regression) method. The model is also optimized by extracting the spectral feature bands using the continuous projection SPA method. Results The optimization results showed that the MSC + SPA + PLSR quantitative forecasting model of near-infrared spectra could eff ectively improve model precision, which was signifi cantly higher than that of fl uorescence spectra. Classifi cation Leaner was used to establish the quantitative forecasting model. Compared with the model of near-infrared spectra, the SPA + SVM qualitative discrimination model of fl uorescence spectra could improve the identifi cation precision of powdery mildew of bitter gourd as high as 98% through training. Conclusion This study proposed diff erent combination methods based on quantitative forecasting and qualitative discrimination and could provide a method and reference to the identifi cation of powdery mildew of bitter gourd.

Effect of a Mangosteen Dietary Supplement on Human Immune Function: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

        Yu-Ping Tang,Peng-Gao Li,Miwako Kondo,Hong-Ping Ji,Yan Kou,Boxin Ou 한국식품영양과학회 2009 Journal of medicinal food Vol.12 No.4

The effect of a mangosteen product containing multivitamins and essential minerals was tested on immune function and well-being in healthy adults. A randomized, double blinded, placebo-controlled study was conducted in 59 healthy human subjects (40–60 years old). Changes from baseline immune function were measured after a 30-day consumption of the mangosteen product and the placebo. The subjects' self-appraisal of their health status was also surveyed. A xanthone-rich mangosteen product intake increased mean values for peripheral T-helper cell frequency (P=.020) and reduced the serum C-reactive protein concentration (P=.014). Increases in peripheral CD4/CD8 double-positive (DP) T-cell frequency and serum complement C3, C4, and interleukin (IL)-1α concentrations were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the placebo group (DP, P=.038; C3, P=.017; C4, P=.031; IL-1α, P=.006). At the end of study, serum IL-1α and IL-1β concentrations in the study group were significantly higher than that in the placebo group (IL-1α, P=.033; IL-1β, P=.04). Furthermore, more participants in the experimental group reported greatly improved overall health status compared with participants receiving placebo (P=.001). The results indicated that the intake of an antioxidant-rich product significantly enhanced immune responses and improved the subject's self-appraisal on his or her overall health status.

Fumigaclavine C attenuates adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and ameliorates lipid accumulation in high-fat diet-induced obese mice

        Yu, Wan-Guo,He, Yun,Chen, Yun-Fang,Gao, Xiao-Yao,Ning, Wan-E,Liu, Chun-You,Tang, Ting-Fan,Liu, Quan,Huang, Xiao-Cheng The Korean Society of Pharmacology 2019 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.23 No.3

Fumigaclavine C (FC), an active indole alkaloid, is obtained from endophytic Aspergillus terreus (strain No. FC118) by the root of Rhizophora stylosa (Rhizophoraceae). This study is designed to evaluate whether FC has anti-adipogenic effects in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and whether it ameliorates lipid accumulation in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. FC notably increased the levels of glycerol in the culture supernatants and markedly reduced lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. FC differentially inhibited the expressions of adipogenesis-related genes, including the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor proteins, CCAAT/enhancer-binding proteins, and sterol regulatory element-binding proteins. FC markedly reduced the expressions of lipid synthesis-related genes, such as the fatty acid binding protein, lipoprotein lipase, and fatty acid synthase. Furthermore, FC significantly increased the expressions of lipolysis-related genes, such as the hormone-sensitive lipase, Aquaporin-7, and adipose triglyceride lipase. In HFD-induced obese mice, intraperitoneal injections of FC decreased both the body weight and visceral adipose tissue weight. FC administration significantly reduced lipid accumulation. Moreover, FC could dose-dependently and differentially regulate the expressions of lipid metabolism-related transcription factors. All these data indicated that FC exhibited anti-obesity effects through modulating adipogenesis and lipolysis.

Event-triggered Hybrid Force Feedback Architecture With Tank-based Stabilization Method for Complicated Bilateral Teleoperation Tasks

        Zhitao Gao,Yukui Zhang,Rong Yan,Fangyu Peng,Chen Chen,Xiaowei Tang,Yu Wang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2024 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.22 No.7

Bilateral teleoperation with force feedback allows the operators to apply their skills to accomplish challenging tasks safely. Most teleoperation bilateral systems are designed for single interaction scenarios and low-frequency force feedback, which limits their overall performance in complex interaction tasks. Furthermore, the use of passive controllers to ensure system stability can lead to further reductions in force transparency. This paper addresses the hybrid force feedback problem in complex interaction tasks with multiple stages, aiming at enhancing the practicality and robustness of teleoperation systems for complex interaction tasks, as well as reducing the force distortion caused by passive controllers. Firstly, an event-triggered hybrid force feedback architecture is proposed. Within this architecture, we introduce a two-channel fully transparent method with an explicit force controller (FT2-EFC), to enable model-free force tracking during both free motion and vibration contact stages. Besides, an adaptive impedance matching (AIM) algorithm is proposed to improve the physical interaction characteristics in the contact transient stage. Secondly, we present the operator passivity reference dual boundary energy tank (OPRDB-ET) method, which not only ensures the delay stability of the force architecture but also minimizes force distortion resulting from passive damping injection. Finally, experiments demonstrated that the proposed methods ensure the accurate tracking ability of hybrid forces in all stages of complicated interaction tasks and the slight force distortion under communication delay.

Effect of structural phase transformations under pressure on electronic and optical properties of CuInS2

        Bo Gao,Hong-Tao Xue,Fu-Ling Tang,Yu-Wen Cheng 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.11

First-principles plane-wave calculations were employed to study the phase transitions, electronic and optical properties of chalcopyrite CuInS2 (CIS) under pressure, which is a promising semiconductor compound material for nonlinear optical, photovoltaic and bio-applications. From the variations of Gibbs free energy and volume with pressure, we confirmed an experimentally found phase transformation of CIS from tetragonal I42d structure into the cubic Fm3m phase. It occurs at 7.9 GPa with a volume reduction of 15.6%, which are comparable with the experimental values of 9.5 GPa and 12%. A new possible phase transition of CIS from the cubic Fm3m structure to the orthorhombic Cmcm structure under higher pressure was predicted occurring at 49.6 GPa with a volume reduction about 0.64%. Using the more accurate HSE06 functional, we found that the growth rate of energy gap with pressure (dEg/dP) for the I42d phase is about 24.8 meV/GPa, very close to the experimental value of 24 meV/GPa. The calculated electronic properties for Fm3m and Cmcm phases show that CIS is a metallic material under high pressure, rather than a semiconductor. The optical absorption spectra indicate that with the increase of pressure the absorption edge of CIS becomes smaller while the optical energy gap is larger.

Dysfunctional Mitochondria Clearance in Situ: Mitophagy in Obesity and Diabetes-Associated Cardiometabolic Diseases

        Songling Tang,Di Hao,Wen Ma,Lian Liu,Jiuyu Gao,Yao Peng,Haifang Yu,Lu Gan,Yu Cao 대한당뇨병학회 2024 Diabetes and Metabolism Journal Vol.48 No.4

Several mitochondrial dysfunctions in obesity and diabetes include impaired mitochondrial membrane potential, excessive mitochondrial reactive oxygen species generation, reduced mitochondrial DNA, increased mitochondrial Ca2+ flux, and mitochondrial dynamics disorders. Mitophagy, specialized autophagy, is responsible for clearing dysfunctional mitochondria in physiological and pathological conditions. As a paradox, inhibition and activation of mitophagy have been observed in obesity and diabetes-related heart disorders, with both exerting bidirectional effects. Suppressed mitophagy is beneficial to mitochondrial homeostasis, also known as benign mitophagy. On the contrary, in most cases, excessive mitophagy is harmful to dysfunctional mitochondria elimination and thus is defined as detrimental mitophagy. In obesity and diabetes, two classical pathways appear to regulate mitophagy, including PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1)/Parkin-dependent mitophagy and receptors/adapters-dependent mitophagy. After the pharmacologic interventions of mitophagy, mitochondrial morphology and function have been restored, and cell viability has been further improved. Herein, we summarize the mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy alterations in obesity and diabetes, as well as the underlying upstream mechanisms, in order to provide novel therapeutic strategies for the obesity and diabetes-related heart disorders.
