This study investigates, first, whether the extent of corporate social and environmental responsibility disclosure (CSERD) differs between 2010 and 2014; second, whether government regulation affects the extent of CSERD; and, third, whether the CSERD is valued by investors. Content analysis method was used to extract 466 companies' annual reports to measure the extent of social and environmental responsibility disclosure based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) checklist. Independent sample t-test and multivariate regression analysis were also conducted to test the differences of the extent of CSERD as well as determinants and consequence of CSERD. Our results show that the extent of CSERD in 2014 is 21.60 percent higher than in 2010 (13.39 percent). Government regulation has a significant effect on the extent of CSERD. This study also finds that market values positively CSER information disclosed by company. Given that government regulation has a positive impact, however, the findings of this study suggests that the extent of CSERD is still low. To enhance CSERD, government should continuously encourage companies to abide by the regulations as mandated. This study provides a more comprehensive insights of CSRED practices from an emerging country and the effect of government regulation in enhancing CSERD.

This study aims to design a real-time system on STM32F4 to measure the density of liquid flow in construction building materials, which can be manually tested in laboratories or construction sites. The study provides an embedded system capable of sequentially and real-time measuring the velocity profile and pressure drop. Existing devices such as rheometers, which are expensive and require calibration, are used to measure fluid flows. However, this study presents a domestically developed device at a lower cost.

We report a 12-month-old female infant who had a history of neonatal sepsis with liver micro-abscesses that resolved with intravenous antibiotics during neonatal period. During her neonatal admission period, no umbilical vein catheter was inserted. Also, she did not undergo any abdominal surgeries or had a postnatal history of necrotizing enterocolitis. However, the child developed upper gastrointestinal bleeding in form of hematemesis and melena secondary to esophageal varices at the age of 12 months with an extra-hepatic portal vein obstruction with cavernous transformation and portal hypertension subsequently. The child underwent a successful endoscopic injection sclerotherapy. She is now 20-month-old and has portal hypertension but otherwise asymptomatic. We are proposing the possibility of a delayed-onset portal hypertension as a complication of liver abscess and neonatal sepsis.
Improvement of mechanical properties of bio-concrete using Enterococcus faecalis and Bacillus cereus

The present study aimed to investigate the potential of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) and Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) in improving the properties of bio-concrete. E. faecalis and B. cereus strains were obtained from fresh urine and an acid mire water at cell concentration of 1.16×1012 and 1.3×1012 cells mL-1, respectively. The bacterial strains were inoculated in a liquid medium into the concrete with 1, 3 and 5% as replacement of water cement ratio (w/c). The ability of E. faecalis and B. cereus cells to accumulate the calcite and the decrement of pores size within bio-concrete was confirmed by SEM and EDX analysis. The results revealed that E. faecalis exhibited high efficiency for increasing of compressive and splitting tensile strength than B. cereus (23 vs. 14.2%, and 13 vs. 8.5%, respectively). These findings indicated that E. faecalis is more applicable in the bio-concrete due to its ability to enhance strength development and reduce water penetration.

The purpose of this case study is to understand the sustainability practices of knowledge transfer process at the Malaysian government-industry-academia consortium. At this stage in the research, the R&D consortium is defined as an established entity by two or more organizations that pool resources and shared decision making for cooperative research and development activities. In attempts to understand the formation, outcomes and sustainability of the sustainable knowledge transfer process, this paper conducted a systematic literature review based on Gough, Oliver and Thomas systematic reviews protocol. From the review, the data were enriched and enhanced with a better understanding of sustainable knowledge transfer process. The systematic review resulted in identifying six factors including internal and external perspectives. However, key sustainability factors are not only directly influencing KTP, and the consortium, but are also mediated by other organisational variables.

This paper presents a new coupling spring design for the MEMS tuning fork structure. The spring design incorporates the outer arm, inner arm, and torsional arm. The outer and inner arms are connected through the torsional arm to be rotationally symmetric, constituting 180° in relation to the center of spring. The designed coupling spring always prioritizes an anti-phase motion providing robustness to linear acceleration. The operation of the spring was validated through FEM simulations and experimental results. The experimental results demonstrated that the anti-phase resonant frequency was 27,280 Hz, whereas the in-phase resonant frequency was 27,780 Hz. Furthermore, the designed coupling spring benefited from a narrow etch cavity and small surface area, making it an ideal design for consumer electronics applications.

Introduction: Thyroid hormone defi ciency can lead to hyperlipidemia by reducing lipid peroxidation. In addition, disorders of thyroid function may cause some neuromuscular disorders. Herein, we would like to present a case developing myopathy due to initiation of antilipidemic treatment. Case-report: 42-year-old male patient was admitted to the internal medicine outpatient clinic because of fatigue, muscle pain. Medical history included hypothyroidism, hyperlipidemia. The patient had been started to take Fenofi brate (250 mg. once a day) three weeks before. He did not receive treatment for hypothyroidism. Physical examination revealed that dry skin, edematous facial appearance and muscle tenderness in the extremities. His abnormal biochemical parameters are shown in Table 1. We stopped the Fenofi brate treatment and Levothyroxine sodium 25μg treatment was started and gradually increased. And also we advised the hydration therapy (at least daily 3000 cc. of liquid). During the follow-up, we observed that the patient`s laboratory fi ndings became to normal level and all the clinical symptoms improved. Discussion: Fibrates are fi bric acid derivative drugs. Fibrates are frequently used in the treatment of Dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia. One of the most important side effects of Fibrates is rhabdomyolysis. Abnormalities in thyroid function is also one of the reasons causing myopathy. In hypothyroid myopathy, proximal muscle weakness, muscle stiffness, cramps, refl exes slow down can occurred. In our case, physical examination was unremarkable except muscle tenderness. Our patient`s complaint has decreased after stopping the intake of Fenofi brate. The TFT levels and other biochemical parameters became to normal levels. We think that subclinical myopathy seen in the existence of hypothyroidism may become symptomatic myopathy by using Fenofi - brate. Conclusion: Myopathies depending on thyroid disorder may be worse with the usage of lipid-lowering treatment. Therefore, too much attention should be needed before starting an antilipidemic treatment for these patients.

CdS thin films with different Cu concentrations were grown on glass substrates at room temperature by using the resistive thermal evaporation technique. The effect of Cu doping on the structural, optical and vibrational properties of CdS thin films was investigated. The structural, optical and vibrational analysis was completed using an X-ray diffractrometer and a Raman and a UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer. X-ray diffraction data revealed that incorporation of Cu ions improved the crystalline structure but did not change the cubic phase of the CdS thin film with a preferential orientation along the (111) direction. Various optical parameters, like the refractive index, extinction co-efficient, absorption co-efficient, urbach tail energy Ee and optical band gap, were determined by using transmission data at different copper concentrations. The Raman peaks appearing at 299 cm−1 and 592 cm−1 for CdS were attributed to the 1LO and 2LO phonons of cubic CdS, and a shift towards low wavenumber region was observed with increasing Cu concentration.

This short paper envisions reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) as an alternative to relay nodes for underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs). In that regard, an RIS-aided relay architecture for UWASNs is presented which enables the RIS controller to manage the allocation of the RIS elements. Discussions are provided to elicit the challenges that lie in managing the RIS elements and time-slots allocation in a distributed manner, and how a machine learning technique can be used by the sensors to select the appropriate elements and time-slots.
