A major advantage of the area in and around Braunschweig is its concentration of major research institutes and small to large enterprises dealing with different modes of transportation. For many years, aviation has been a particular focus. The research institutes have aircraft and helicopters equipped especially for research projects, as well as other laboratory equipment, allowing simulation and testing of air traffic application both virtually and on real aircraft. In addition, with the Luftfahrtbundesamt (equivalent organization to FAA) and the Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung (equivalent to NTSB) both located at the Research Airport, it enables direct contact with two key air-traffic safety authorities. The institutes of DLR and the Technical University of Braunschweig are very active in rail transportation applications. Cooperation with the market leader in rail automation – Siemens Rail Automation, also located in Braunschweig – and with other companies in the Braunschweig region means that safety-critical road applications and mobility research is available due to the activities of a number of institutes. Cooperation with Volkswagen (VW) and other companies in the region ensure access to the market leaders’ know-how in this sector. Current European activities within framework of the Galileo project offer particularly good opportunities for the Research Airport to leverage its expertise and position itself internationally as a specialist in safety-critical transport applications – the centre is an initiative of Niedersachsen and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport Location and navigation plays a central role in all modes of transport – air, road and rail. The market is being revolutionized by the increasing integration of GNSS. The realization of the Galileo system will provide additional opportunities for the Research Airport: Galileo as a civil operated system offers service guarantees especially in the area of safety-critical applications in transportation. Notably standards, processes and authorizations related to the certification of safety-critical applications in the areas of air, road and rail transportation are still to be determined. GAUSS, located at the Research Airport Braunschweig, as an European centre of excellence for simulation, testing and certification of safety-critical applications can offer its expertise to validate the services guaranteed by the Galileo concessionaire.

A moral panic is afoot in contemporary France surrounding what place French-Muslim youth hold within the national identity. The French state, in particular, is actively engaged in regimenting what it means to be a young Muslim person from France. This article examines how, during Marseille’s year (2013) as the European Capital of Culture, the municipal government and the local branch of the Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale spearheaded several initiatives, a number of which focused on Arabic-language education, with the aim of transforming French-Muslim youth from Marseille’s housing projects into secular, upwardly mobile individuals. Ethnographic inquiry with the youth targeted by such “linguistic gentrification” programs reveals that the state’s reimagining of them in these terms remained largely at odds with how they themselves understood their identities. This article, as such, illustrates the analytical importance of attending to people’s uptake when evaluating the eventual scope of top-down discourses and projects, while also offering an example of how the label “Mediterranean” functions as a spatiotemporal shifter, deployed by different groups to activate alternative accounts of history, the present, and the future.
한국 비판막성 심방세동 환자의 뇌졸중 위험 감소에 대한 리바록사반의 경제성평가

Objectives: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of new oral anticoagulant rivaroxaban compared to warfarin for the prevention of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in the Korea healthcare setting. Methods: A cost-effectiveness analysis of rivaroxaban versus warfarin was performed in Korea from a restricted societal perspective. A Markov model was developed and adapted to the Korean healthcare setting to evaluate the clinical and economic consequences of rivaroxaban versus warfarin. Baseline event rates and efficacy data were obtained from the results of a large double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial. The population evaluated was patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation at a moderate to high risk of stroke. The model consists of health states covering the management and outcome of atrial fibrillation. Costs and utilities were assigned to each state to reflect the burden of therapy. Utility values for events were based on literature. Local cost data estimation was based on published price lists, healthcare statistics and local market research data. The cycle length was 3 months and the time horizon of analysis was over a patient life time (30 years). An incremental cost effectiveness ratio (ICER) was evaluated using cost and quality-adjusted life years gained (QALY). Both costs and outcomes were discounted at 5%. One-way sensitivity analyses were conducted on key variables to deal with uncertainty. Results: Rivaroxaban was cost-effective compared to warfarin with an ICER of KRW 12,550,023 (incremental QALYs of 0.26 and incremental costs of KRW 3,270,756). Sensitivity analysis with nursing cost indicated rivaroxaban was a dominant alternative. Also the one-way sensitivity analyses ranging from KRW 1,057,895/QALY to KRW/QALY 19,021,292 indicated that rivaroxaban was cost-effective. Conclusion: Prevention of stroke with rivaroxaban in the population of non-valvular atrial fibrillation patients at a moderate to high risk of stroke is cost-effective compared to warfarin in the Korean healthcare setting.
Emotion and Rationality in Educational Problem Solving: From Individuals to Groups

This paper offers a critical discussion of recent work on the role of emotion in problem‐solving and decision‐making, with particular reference to group processes and group decisions in education and other organization contexts. Based on evidence from neuroscience, we argue first that emotion, rather than being contrary to reason, is a vital constituent of reason and hence essential for good decision‐making. Second, we examine a number of computational models that integrate emotion and reason into group decision‐making. Although these models possess a number of weaknesses, we think that further developments are both possible and likely, and point to some areas that later models will need to address.
Studying the acceptance of a robotic agent by elderly users

Goal of this study is to examine the influence of social abilities of a robot on elderly user"s attitude towards and acceptance of the robot. Experiments were set up in eldercare institutions where an interface robot with simulated conversational capabilities was used in a Wizard of Oz experiment. The robot was used with two conditions: a more socially communicative (the robot made use of a larger set of social abilities in interaction) and a less socially communicative interface. Participants (n=40) were observed in 5 minute interaction sessions and were asked to answer questions on perceived social abilities and technology acceptance. Results show that participants who were confronted with the more socially communicative version of the robot felt more comfortable and were more expressive in communicating with it. This suggests that the more socially communicative condition would be more likely to be accepted as a conversational partner. Furthermore, results did show a correlation between perceived social abilities and some aspects of technology acceptance, but this did not relate to the more and less socially communicative conditions.
