        Sesquiterpene Components from the Flower Buds of Magnolia fargesii

        From the Chinese crude drug shin-i, the flower buds of Magnolia fargesii, four sesquiterpene, oplopanoe (1), oplodiol (2), homalomenol A (3) and $1{\beta},4{\beta},7{\alpha}$-trihydroxyeudesmane (4) were isolated. These structures were elucidated and the ${13}^C-NMR$ chemical shifts of these compounds were revised by means of various 2D-NMR techniques.

        우리나라에서 솔껍질깍지벌레의 분포확산

        솔껍질깍지벌레는 우리나라 곰솔림의 주요한 해충의 하나이다. 본 연구는 우리나라에서 솔껍질깍지벌레의 분포를 알아보기 위하여 7개도 3개 광역시, 91개 시군구, 686 읍면동의 해송림에서 2010년 밀도를 조사하였다. 5개도 2개 광역시에서 솔껍질깍지벌레가 서식하고 있었는데 시군구별로는 조사대상의 64.8%인 59개 시군구에서 서식이 확인되었다. 솔껍질깍지벌레의 분포는 남해안 전역과 동해안의 포항, 서해안의 충남 보령지역까지 분포하였다. 충북과 대전광역시 및 제주도에서는 솔껍질깍지벌레의 분포가 확인되지 않았다. 부산지역은 16곳의 모든 구에서 솔껍질깍지벌레가 분포하였고, 시군 단위에서는 전남 해남군의 솔껍질깍지벌레 평균밀도가 1.713마리/0.785 $cm^2$로 가장 높았으며 읍면동 단위에서는 해남군 송지면이 6.36마리/0.785 $cm^2$로 가장 높았다. 곰솔 가지 내의 솔껍질깍지벌레 밀도와 솔껍질깍지벌레가 서식하고 있는 빈도와는 높은 상관관계가 있었다(상관계수=0.89). The black pine bast scale, $Masucoccus$ $thunbergianae$ (Hemiptera: Margarodidae), is a serious pest of the Japanese black pine, $Pinus$ $thunbergii$, in Korea. The distribution of the black pine bast scale was examined, looking overall at 686 towns (eup), townships (myeon) or neighborhoods (dong). There were Japanese black pine ($Pinus$ $thunbergii$) forests in 91 cities, counties (gun) and borough (gu), in seven provinces and three metropolitan cities during 2010. Black pine bast scale were found in 64.8% of cities or counties or borough (59) in 7 provinces and 3 metropolitan cities, and were distributed in all South Costal regions, Pohang in East Costal region and Boryeong in West Costal region. Chungcheongbukdo, Daejeon and Jeju did not have black pine bast scale. All the gu regions in Busan had black pine bast scale, of which the area with the highest prevalence was Haenam in Jeollanamdo (1.713 crawlers/0.785 $cm^2$). Songji-myeon had the highest occurrence rate (6.36 crawlers/0.785 $cm^2$) from the towns, township and dong. The density of black pine bast scale in twigs was highly correlated with percentage of the sample with scale (Correlation coefficacy=0.89).

      • 당뇨망막증 환자에서 건강보조제 복용 후 양안 동시에 발생한 망막출혈 1례

        Purpose : This is a report of retinal hemorrhage in a patient suffering from diabetic retinopathy taking 10 days of protein supplements. Method : A 38-year-old female patient who had received a panretinal photocoagulation started taking supplements made of cocoon(cocoon steamed powder, ginseng powder, pepino abstraction powder et al.) for 10 days. Then, the patient went on to suffer from an uncontrollable blood pressure, a general edema and a loss in visual acuity. The patient's vision was counter finger 50cm in both eyes. The fundoscopy revealed vitreous hemorrhage in the right eye and preretinal hemorrhage in the left eye. She was hospitalized in nephrology, We waited to resolve hemorrhages. But hemorrhages was not improvement, we performed a pars plana vitrectomy and laser photocoagulation. Results : After the operation, the corrected vision was 0.8 in the right and 0.63 in the left eye, respectively. The patient's general condition was improved with diuretics. Discussion : The main ingredient of the supplements that the patient took were peptides. So this patient with diabetic renal failure had to reduce renal function which cause a reduction in glomerular filtration rate, a increase in blood creatinine levels, edema due to increased blood pressure and vitreal hemorrhaging in both eyes. In conclusion, one must be careful of health supplements because we cannot be sure of the ingredients and the side effects which could worsen certain illnesses.

      • 전방 십자인대의 파열시의 자기공명영상:직접소견의 중요성

        It is Important to know the normal size, shape, and signal intensity of anterior cruciate ligament in the evaluation of knee injury Many studies have reported findings of tear or rupture as well as normal anatomy of these structure, especially with MR images. To our knowledge, there are few studies about normal structures of anterior cruciate ligament in MR images. The purpose of this study is to compare normal finding with tear of anterior cruciate ligament on MRI. Twenty-three cases with rupture of anterior cruciate ligament were evaluated on MRI, measuring the length, thickness, width of anterior cruciate ligament, and angles of anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. Mean length, thickness, and width of anterior cruciate ligament in patients with rupture were 37.7±4.8mm, 9.0±1.2mm, 8.0±0.8mm, and mean angles of anterior cruciate ligament, and posterior cruciate ligament were 48.1±9.6˚, 118.8±13.1˚. Curvature ratio of posterior cruciate ligament was 0.25±0.09. The results showed significant differences between normal persons and patients with complete or partial rupture, and the mean angle and curvature ratio of posterior cruciate ligament which are known to related with indirect sign in tear of anterior cruciate ligament showed significant differences between ours and that of western countries. These results will be useful in the evaluation of patient wish rupture of anterior cruciate ligament, especially on MRI.

      • 대기 중 휘발성유기오염물질의 환경, 개인 및 인체 노출의 상관성 연구

        Volatilc organic compounds (VOCs) are an important public health problem throughout the world. Many important questions remain to be addressed in assessing exposure to these compounds. Because they are ubiquitous and highly volatile, special techniques must be applied in the analytical determination of VOCs. Personal exposure measurements are needed to evaluate the relationship between microenvironmental concentrations and actual exposures. It is also important to investigate exposure frequency, duration, and intensity, as well as personal exposure characteristics. In addition to air monitoring, biological monitoring may contribute significantly to risk assessment by allowing estimation of absorbed doses, rather than just the external exposure concentrations, which are evaluated by environmental and personal monitoring. This study was conducted to establish the analytic procedure of VOCs in air, blood, urine and exhaled breath and to evaluate the relationships among these environmental media. The subjects of this study were selected because they are occupationally exposed to high levels of VOCs. Environmental, personal, blood, urine and exhalation samples were collected. Purge & trap, thermal desorber, gas chromatography and mass selective detector were used to analyze the collected samples. Analytical procedures were validated with the "break through test", "recovery test for storage and transportation", "method detection limit test" and "inter-laboratory QA/QC study". Assessment of halogenated compounds indicted that they were significantly correlated to each other (p value < 0.01). In a similar manner, aromatic compounds were also correlated, except in urine sample. Linear regression was used to evaluate the relationships between personal exposures and environmental concentrations. These relationships for aromatic and halogenated are as follows: Halogens_(personal)=3.875+0.068Halogens_(evironmet)(R²=.930) Aromaties_(personal)=34217.757-31.266Aromatics_(evironmet)(R²=.821) Multiple regression was used to evaluate the relationship between exposures and various exposure determinants including, gender, duration of employment, and smoking history. The results of the regression modeling for halogens in blood and aromatics in urine are as follows: Halogens_(blood)=8.181+0.246Halogens_(personal)+3.975Gender(R²=.925), Aromatics_(urine)=249.565+0.135Aromatics_(personal)-5.651D.S(R²=.735), In conclusion, we have established analytic procedures for VOC measurement in biological and environmental samples and have presented data demonstrating relationships between VOCs levels in biological media and environmental samples.

      • VOCs의 위해성 평가를 위한 노출분석 방법 연구

        Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are an important public health issue in Korea and many important questions remain to be addressed with respect to assessing exposure to these compounds. Because they are ubiquitous and highly volatile, special techniques must be applied in their analytic determination. Valid personal exposure assessment methods are needed to evaluate exposure frequency, duration and intensity, as well as their relationship to personal exposure characteristics. Biological monitoring is also important since it may contribute significantly in risk assessment by allowing the estimation of effective absorbed doses. This study was onducted to establish the environmental measurement, personal dosimetry and biological monitoring methods for VOCs. These methods are needed to compare blood, urinary and exhalation breath VOC levels and to provide tools for risk assessment of VOC exposure. Passive monitors (badge type) and a active samplers (trap) for the VOCs collection were used for air sampling. Methods development included determining the minimum detectable amounts of VOCs in each media, as well as evaluating collection methods and developing analytical procedures. Method reliability was assessed by determining breakthrough volumes and comparing results between laboratories and with other methods. A total capacity of trap used in this study was 60ℓ. Although variable by compound, the average breakthrough was 20%. Also, there was no loss of compounds in trap even if keep for 45 day in -70℃. The recovery of active and passive methods was 69%~126% and method detection limit was 0.24㎍/trap and 0.07㎍/badge. There was no statistical difference (P>0.05) between active and passive methods.
