        경기도 양주군 주내면 어둔리에 위치하고 있는 가톨릭대학교 연습림(동경 127°00′, 북위 37°46′)에서 식생의 장기간의 변화를 추적하기 위하여 25개의 10m×20m 영구방형구를 설치하고 자연림과 조림지의 식생 구조를 비교하였다. 조사된 방형구에서 출현한 교목은 모두 33종으로서 이들 중 조림에 많이 사용되어온 외래수종의 비율은 18%로서 매우 높았다. 그리고 1950년대와 1960년대의 대규모 식생 파괴로 인하여 소나무, 산벚나무, 상수리나무, 떡갈나무, 굴참나무, 팥배나무 등의 양수가 많이 출현하였다. 한편 전나무, 서나무 등을 제외하고는 천이후기에 우점하는 음수들을 거의 찾아보기 어려웠다. 이곳의 식생을 자연림, 일본잎갈나무조림지, 리기다소나무조림지, 아까시나무조림지, 잣나무조림지의 5개 군락으로 나누었을 때 이들 중 잣나무조림지와 일본잎갈나무조림지는 최우점종의 중요치가 평균 84% 이상으로 다른 수종이 거의 침입하고 있지 못한 것으로 판단된다. 반면에 리기다소나무조림지와 아까시나무조림지는 최우점종의 중요치가 70% 이하로서 수관이 조밀하지 못하여 임상에 광선이 많이 투입되어 물푸레나무 등으로의 천이가 빨리 이루어질 것으로 예상된다. 한편 자연림에서는 떡갈나무가 우점종이나 신갈나무, 소나무, 서나무, 물박달나무, 팥배나무 등의 피도가 다소 높아 천이가 빨리 진행되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. For monitoring of the long-term vegetation changes, twenty-five 10m×20m permanent quadrats were set up and the vegetation structures of natural forests and plantations were compared in the Catholic University Experimental Forest located in Eodoon-ri, Joonae-myon, Yangju-gun, Kyonggi-do (127˚ 00’ E, 37˚ 46’ N). The number of tree species occurred in the permanent quadrats was 33, and 18% of them were introduced species which have been widely used for afforestation. Shade intolerant species such as Pinus densiflora, Quercus acutissima, Quercus dentata, Quercus variabilis and Sorbus alnifolia frequently occurred because of vegetation destruction in 1950's and 1960's, but trees of late successional shade tolerant species were rare except for a few Abies holophylla and Carpinus laxiflora. Among the 5 stands studied, Pinus koraiensis (Korean pine) plantation and Larix leptolepis (Japanese larch) plantation showed that the mean importance values of the dominant tree species were ≥ 84% indicating that other species are not successful in invading these stands. In contrast, the mean importance values of the dominant species of Pinus rigida (pitch pine) plantation and Robinia pseudoacacia (black locust) plantation were ≤ 70%, and rapid succession to Fraxinus rhynchophylla and other species due to more or less loose canopy structure is expected in these stands. In natural forests, succession to Quercus mongolica and Carpinus laxiflora from Quercus dentata is expected.

      • 장애아 부모의 스트레스와 대처

        본 연구에서는 장애아 부모들이 경험하는 스트레스와 대처를 보다 명확하게 규명하기 위하여 장애아 부모(62명)와 정상아 부모(135명)를 비교하였다. 그 결과, 정서적 스트레스와 관련해서는 장애아 부모가 정상아 부모에 비하여 상태 분노, 특성 분노, 분노 표출, 및 우울에서 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 또한 대처 방식과 관련해서는 장애아 부모가 정상아 부모에 비하여 소극적 철수, 고집, 체념 및 자기 비판에서 유의하게 높게 나타났다. 끝으로, 신체증상과 관련해서는 장애아 무모가 정신아 부모에 비하여 불면증과 심장 질환 증상에서 유의하게 높게 나타났다. An attempt was made to compare the parents of children with disabilities and those of normal children in terms of their emotional stress and coping styles. The scales utilized in the present study were Korean adaptation of STAXI, the multidimensional coping scale, and Korean adaptation of CES-D. The major findings revealed that (1) the parents of children with disabilities compared to those of normal children showed higher levels of state anger, trait anger, and depression. (2) The parents of children with disabilities compared to those of normal children employed more frequently 'passive withdrawal,' 'perseverance,' 'fatalism,' and 'self-criticism', suggesting that they are more frequently employing ineffective coping styles. (3) The parents of children with disabilities compared to those of normal children were suffering from insomnia and cardiac symptoms. Finally, the present findings were discussed and implications for future studies are suggested.

        In this paper, the composition of lead glass was studied to lower the melting temperature. The composition of lead glass was silica, lead monoxide, sodium hydroxide, and other metal oxides which were blended in alkaline aqueous solution. The blend was dried and melted to produce transparent glass material. Using the composition suggested in this paper, it was possible to manufacture transparent lead glass easily at 700~900 ℃. And the dried bled material had very low softening temperature around 200℃ which can be applied in inorganic adhesives.

      • Enhanced On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol For Multimedia

        It is currently required wireless and transmission of the large scale multimedia contents in the network environment, and this requirement is increased more and more. A mobile ad-hoc network routing protocols for transmission of multimedia contents need to have low delay time and to maintain the established route because of their characteristics. In this paper, the proposed protocol, termed HODMRP (History-based On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol), is advanced On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP) by adding the criterion which is the session history for establishing route. HODMRP have better Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) value and lower delay time than ODMRP by the simulation results.

        Korean Red Ginseng aqueous extract improves markers of mucociliary clearance by stimulating chloride secretion

        Background: Abnormal chloride (Cl⁻) transport has a detrimental impact on mucociliary clearance in both cystic fibrosis (CF) and non-CF chronic rhinosinusitis. Ginseng is a medicinal plant noted to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. The present study aims to assess the capability of red ginseng aqueous extract (RGAE) to promote transepithelial Cl⁻ secretion in nasal epithelium. Methods: Primary murine nasal septal epithelial (MNSE) [wild-type (WT) and transgenic CFTR<SUP>-/-</SUP>], fisher-rat-thyroid (FRT) cells expressing human WT CFTR, and TMEM16A-expressing human embryonic kidney cultures were utilized for the present experiments. Ciliary beat frequency (CBF) and airway surface liquid (ASL) depth measurements were performed using microeoptical coherence tomography (mOCT). Mechanisms underlying transepithelial Cl⁻ transport were determined using pharmacologic manipulation in Ussing chambers and whole-cell patch clamp analysis. Results: RGAE (at 30㎍/mL of ginsenosides) significantly increased Cl⁻ transport [measured as change in short-circuit current (ΔISC = ㎂/㎠)] when compared with control in WT and CFTR<SUP>-/-</SUP> MNSE (WT vs control = 49.8±2.6 vs 0.1 +/- 0.2, CFTR<SUP>-/-</SUP> = 33.5±1.5 vs 0.2±0.3, p < 0.0001). In FRT cells, the CFTR-mediated ΔISC attributed to RGAE was small (6.8 ± 2.5 vs control, 0.03 ± 0.01, p < 0.05). In patch clamp, TMEM16A-mediated currents were markedly improved with co-administration of RGAE and uridine 5-triphosphate (8406.3 +/- 807.7 pA) over uridine 5-triphosphate (3524.1 +/- 292.4 pA) or RGAE alone (465.2 +/- 90.7 pA) (p < 0.0001). ASL and CBF were significantly greater with RGAE (6.2 +/- 0.3 ㎛ vs control, 3.9 +/- 0.09 ㎛; 10.4+/-0.3 ㎐ vs control, 7.3 ± 0.2 ㎐; p < 0.0001) in MNSE. Conclusion: RGAE augments ASL depth and CBF by stimulating Cl⁻ secretion through CaCC, which suggests therapeutic potential in both CF and non-CF chronic rhinosinusitis.

        사람 TSH 수용체 발현 Chinese Hamster Ovary 세포를 이용한 TSH 수용체항체 활성 측정시 PEG 침전 면역글로불린의 유용성

        Background: Graves' disease and primary myxedema are thought to be caused by the action of TSH receptor autoantibodies(thyroid stimulating antibody; TSAb & thyroid stimulation blocking antibody; TSBAb). Thus, detection of these antibodies is crucial in diagnosis and in follow up of those patients. Recently, a sensitive method using human TSH receptor transfected Chinese Hamster Ovary(CHO) cells has been developed. However, the complexity of IgG purification procedure is considered as a limitation for its clinical application as a routine test. The aim of this study is to determine whether polyethylene glycol(PEG)-precipitated immunogiobuIin fraction could substitute for purified IgG. Methods: We developed optimal conditions for TSAb and TSBAb assays using crude, PEG precipitated immunoglobulin fraction; and evaluated the correlation of TSAb and TSBAb activities between thase measured using crude immunoglobulin fraction and purified IgG to clarify the usefulness of PEG-precipitated immunoglobulin fraction. TSH receptor expressing wild type CHO cells were used in TSAb and CHO cells expressing chimeric TSH receptor(Mc2; 90-165 amino acid residues were substituted by those of rat LH/CG receptar) were used in TSBAb assay to minimize the possible disturbing effects of TSAb in serum. Results: The optimal serum amount for TSAb and TSBAb assay using PEG-precipitated immunoglobulin fraction were 250mL serum equivalent/well and 50mL serum equivalent/well, respectively. The optimal incubation time for both assays were 2 homs, and aptimal ccrncentration of bTSH for TSBAb assay was 0.1U/L. TSAb activities measured with PEG-precipitated immunoglobulin were significantly correlated with those measured with purified IgG in 26 patients with Graves diseases(r=0.93, p$lt;0.001). Although TSBAb activities measured using PEG-precipitated imrnunoglobulin were conelated with those measured using purified IgG in 20 patients with primary myxedema(r=0.86, p$lt;0.001), the positive rate in TSBAb assay using PEG-precipitated immunoglobulin was lower than that of usmg purified IgG(20% v.s. 65%) because of negative conversion of TSBAb activities in samples with weakly positive TSBAb activities measured using purified IgG. Conclusion: PEG-precipitated immunoglobulin fraction could be used instead of purified IgG in TSAb assay using hTSHR-tranasfected wild type CHO cells with equal sensitivity and specificity. This simple and practical TSAb assay using PEG-precipitated immunoglobulin in hTSHR-transfected CHO cells would be useful in clinica1 practiee (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 13:167-180, 1998).

        Spontaneous Retropharyngeal and Mediastinal Emphysema

        A 14-year-old girl with no significant medical history presented at Emergency Department with sore throat and odynophagia after one episode of nonviolent coughing. She denied any respiratory distress, voice change, foreign body ingestion, retching, substance abuse, dental procedures, or trauma. She was afebrile with normal oxygen saturation and physical examination including the head and neck was unremarkable with the exception of bilateral neck crepitus without tenderness on palpation. Fiberoptic laryngoscopy revealed a patent laryngeal airway with normal vocal fold movement. Lateral neck X-ray demonstrated a linear air-column in the retropharyngeal space and computed tomography confirmed emphysema involving the retropharyngeal space and mediastinum with no evidence of fluid collection or abscess formation. Spontaneous retropharyngeal and mediastinal emphysema are clinical entities where free air is present within the confines of retropharyngeal space and mediastinum without obvious cause. It is benign and self-limited in nature and allows for conservative management. This case is presented with a review of literature.

        Neonatal isoerythrolysis in Thoroughbred foals

        Two 4-day-old Thoroughbred foals with acute clinical signs of depression, elevated pulse and respiratory rates, anemia, and jaundice were referred to the equine hospital of Korea Racing Authority. The foals were seemingly normal at birth, but showed clinical signs such as abnormal behavior, jaundice and anemia suddenly after ingestion of the mare's colostrum, followed by death at 4 days after birth. According to the results of the hematology, serum chemistry analysis, jaundice foal agglutination test, and blood groups test, the foals were diagnosed as neonatal isoerythrolysis (NI) caused by the mare's antibodies. These results suggested that the pregnant mares have a potential for NI.
