This article presents a field evaluation of an IP-based architecture for heterogeneous environments that has been developed under the aegis of the Moby Dick project, covering UMTS-like (universal mobile telecommunications system) TD-CDMA (time division-code division multiple access) wireless access technology, wireless and wired LANs. The architecture treats all transmission capabilities as basic physical and data-link layers, and replaces all higher-level tasks by IP-based strategies. The Moby Dick architecture incorporates mobile IPv6, fast handovers, AAA-control (authentication, authorisation, accounting), charging and quality of service (QoS) in an integrated framework. The architecture further allows for optimised control on the radio link layer resources. It has been implemented and tested by expert users, and evaluated by real users on field trials with multiple services available.
Numerical Simulation of Sediment Transport and Bedmorphology around Gangjeong Weir on Nakdong River

In this study, we modified and applied an open source CFD software package, the TELEMAC, to simulate sediment transport and bed morphology around Gangjeong Weir on Nakdong River in Korea. The simulations have been carried out with the real river bathymetry and the weir geometry, and for different operation scenarios of the weir. The hydrodynamic parameters and bed evolutions obtained from the numerical results have been validated against field observation data. Particularly, the scour depth has been verified against the results obtained from a well-known empirical formula. Agreement between numerical computations, observed data and empirical formulas is judged to be satisfactory on all major comparisons. This study is not only to point out the locations where deposition and erosion taken place due to the weir gate operation, but also to analyze the mechanism of formation and evolution of scour holes after the weir gates.

The goal of this study was to statistically analyse the variability of global irradiance and ultraviolet erythemal (UVER) irradiance and their interrelationships with global and UVER irradiance, global clearness indices and ozone. A prediction of short-term UVER solar irradiance values was also obtained. Extreme values of UVER irradiance were included in the data set, as well as a time series of ultraviolet irradiance variability (UIV). The study period was from 2005 to 2014 and approximately 250,000 readings were taken at 5-min intervals. The effect of the clearness indices on global irradiance variability (GIV) and UIV was also recorded and bi-dimensional distributions were used to gather information on the two measured variables. With regard to daily GIVand UIV, it is also shown that for global clearness index (kt) values lower than 0.6 both global and UVER irradiance had greater variability and that UIVon cloud-free days (kt higher than 0.65) exceeds GIV. To study the dependence between UIVand GIV the χ2 statistical method was used. It can be concluded that there is a 95% probability of a clear dependency between the variabilities.A connection between high kt (corresponding to cloudless days) and low variabilities was found in the analysis of bidimensional distributions. Extreme values of UVER irradiance were also analyzed and it was possible to calculate the probable future values of UVER irradiance by extrapolating the values of the adjustment curve obtained from the Gumbel distribution.
