Dynamic PIV Measurement of Swirl Flow in a PC Fan

The dynamic particle image velocimetry (PIV) is consisted of a high frequency pulse laser, high speed cameras and a timing controller. The three velocity components of flow downstream of an axial flow fan for PC cooling system are measured using the dynamic PIV system. An Axial flow fan has seven blades of 72 ㎜ in diameter. The rotating speed is 1800 rpm. The downstream flow is visualized by smoke particles of about 0.3-1 ㎛ in diameter. The three-dimensional instantaneous velocity fields are measured at three downstream planes. The swirl velocity component was diffused downstream and the change in time-mean vorticity distribution downstream was also discussed. The spatio-temporal change in axial velocity component with the blades passing is recognized by the instantaneous vector maps. And the dynamic behavior of vorticity moving with the rotating blades is discussed using the unsteady vorticity maps.

In this paper, we consider a mixed boundary value problem to a class of nonlinear operators containing p(x)-Laplacian. More precisely, we consider the problem with the Dirichlet condition on a part of the boundary and the Steklov boundary condition on an another part of the boundary. We show the existence of at least three weak solutions under some hypotheses on given functions and the values of parameters.
Undrained cyclic shear characteristics and crushing behaviour of silica sand

This paper presents an investigation of the liquefaction characteristics and particle crushing of isotropically consolidated silica sand specimens at a wide range of confining pressures varying from 0.1 MPa to 5 MPa during undrained cyclic shearing. Different failure patterns of silica sand specimens subjected to undrained cyclic loading were seen at low and high pressures. The sudden change points with regard to the increasing double amplitude of axial strain with cycle number were identified, regardless of confining pressure. A higher cyclic stress ratio caused the specimen to liquefy at a relatively smaller cycle number, conversely producing a larger relative breakage $B_r$. The rise in confining pressure also resulted in the increasing relative breakage. At a specific cyclic stress ratio, the relative breakage and plastic work increased with the rise in the cyclic loading. Less particle crushing and plastic work consumption was observed for tests terminated after one cyclic loading. Majority of the particle crushing was produced and majority of the plastic work was consumed after the specimen passed through the phase transformation point and until reaching the failure state. The large amount of particle crushing resulted from the high-level strain induced by particle transformation and rotation.
Management of Chronic Expanding Haematoma Using Triamcinolone after Latissimus Dorsi Flap Harvesting

Chronic expanding haematoma (CEH) is a rare type of haematoma that enlarges slowly and continuously without coagulation. It can occur following surgery because of shear stress-induced bleeding in the scar tissue between the subcutaneous fat and fascia. We present three cases of large chronic CEH that were successfully treated with triamcinolone injections. Three female patients developed large chronic CEH at 9 months, 5 years, and 6 years, respectively, after latissimus dorsi flap harvesting for breast reconstruction. Although the condition did not improve after multiple sessions of haematoma aspiration in the first two patients, it resolved following a single 40-mg triamcinolone injection along with appropriate compression dressing for several weeks. In the third patient, triamcinolone was injected immediately after the initial aspiration of the haematoma, and the condition improved considerably. There were no side effects in any of the patients. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of successful treatment of large CEH using triamcinolone. Therefore, we suggest that triamcinolone injections be considered for the treatment of CEH.
