The single link rotary inverted pendulum (SLRIP) is a single input multi output open loop unstable system. Several control strategies have been reported in the literature to intensify the performance of it. The present paper attempts to explore a method to stabilize a pendulum link in upright position with a focus to minimize the deviation in rotational arm. The parameters of proposed fractional controller is obtained by a simple tuning technique which comprises analytical computations as well as graphical procedure to tune the fractional parameters. The usability of the proposed controller are verified through the experimental implementation and fractional stability analysis.

This work is focused on the boundary layer and heat transfer characteristics of hydromagnetic flow over a stretching sheet with variable thickness. Steady, two dimensional, nonlinear, laminar flow of an incompressible, viscous and electrically conducting fluid over a stretching sheet with variable thickness and power law velocity in the presence of variable magnetic field and variable temperature is considered. Governing equations of the problem are converted into ordinary differential equations utilizing similarity transformations. The resulting non-linear differential equations are solved numerically by utilizing Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iterative scheme for satisfaction of asymptotic boundary conditions along with fourth order Runge-Kutta integration method. Numerical computations are carried out for various values of the physical parameters and the effects over the velocity and temperature are analyzed. Numerical values of dimensionless skin friction coefficient and non-dimensional rate of heat transfer are also obtained.

In this paper an attempt is made to design and simulate a fractional integral state predictor anti-windup scheme with fractional order PID controller for first order plus time delayed system (FOPDT). This scheme improves the performance of the system, which is subjected to actuator saturation and change in load. In the present work it is shown that, the anti-windup fractional order PID controller improves set-point tracking performance of FOPDT system. Amongst various methods of anti-windup fractional integral state predictor scheme is suggested here .The performance of the system is compared using this method and conventional anti-windup method. A comparison of performance of the system, when using suggested method and the other conventional anti-windup method, is presented. The scheme is designed and tested on FOPDT transfer function of AC variable speed motor drive using Matlab/Simulink. The performance indices ISE, and control effort is observed to be minimized while using the proposed method.

Lung ultrasound is based on the analysis of ultrasound artifacts generated by the pleura and air within the lungs. In recent years, lung ultrasound has emerged as an important alternative for quick evaluation of the patient at the bedside. Several techniques and protocols for performing lung ultrasound have been described in the literature, with the most popular one being the BLUE (Bedside Lung Ultrasound Examination) protocol developed by Lichtenstein et al, which can be utilized to diagnose the cause of acute dyspnea at the bedside. We attempt to provide a simplified approach to understanding the physics behind the artifacts used in lung ultrasound, the imaging techniques, and the application of the BLUE-protocol to diagnose the commonly presenting causes of acute dyspnea.

We assessed the anti-V3 antibody content and viral neutralization potential of the plasma of 63 HIV-1-infected patients (antiretroviral naïve=39, treated=24) against four primary isolates (PIs) of clade C and a tier 1 clade B isolate SF162. Depletion and inhibition of anti-V3 antibodies in the plasma of five patients with high titers of anti-V3 antibodies led to modest change in the neutralization percentage against two PIs (range 0–21%). The plasma of antiretroviral-treated patients exhibited higher neutralization potential than that of the drug-naïve plasmas against the four PIs tested which was further evidenced by a follow-up study.

As an alternative to radioimmunoassay a simple and highly sensitive enzyme immunoassay (EIA) was developed and validated for androstenedione quantification in plasma of Karan Fries bulls using second antibody coating technique. The wells of the microtitreplate were coated with affinity-purified goat immunoglobulin (antirabbit IgG) that binds the hormone specific antibody. The EIA was performed to analyze androstenedione directly in 40 μl of bull plasma. The androstenedione standards ranged from 0.20 to 200 pg/40 μl /well and the sensitivity of the assay was 5 pg/ml plasma. Serially diluted bull plasma containing high endogenous androstenedione showed good parallelism with bovine androstenedione standard curve. Intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation (CV) were found to be 8 and 9%, respectively. Peripheral plasma androstenedione concentrations determined in young and adult bull samples ranged between 104-990 pg/ml and 184-2040 pg/ml, respectively.

A non-involuting lesion can be either a hemangioma or a vascular malformation depending upon its clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics.
