The cell activities of bone metabolism is affected by growth factor rather than by hormone. The affects of growth factors on the bone activity were observed using various culture methods. Platelet-derived growth factor(PDGF) is produced from the well differentiated bone cell. It stimulates cell mitosis, synthesizes collagen in bone tissue and plays a role in healing response. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects that PDGF has on the activity and the proliferation of osteoblast by measuring the activity of alkaline phosphatase, the growth formation of calcified nodules, and osteocalcin production. In this study, HOS and ROS 17/2.8 osteoblastic cell line was used, along with variable concentrations of PDGF the were measured with osteoblastic proliferation. The cell proliferation of HOS and ROS 17/2.8 cells was stimulated dose- depentdently. Alakline phosphatase activity was significantly decreased by PDGF in osteoblastic cells. A number of small calcified nodules were observed in HOS cell treated with low concentrations(0.1, 0.4 ng/ml) of PDGF-BB and no significant difference from control group was found. High concentrations(10, 50 ng/ml) of PDGF suppressed calcified nodule formation. And osteocalcin production was inhibited with PDGF. These results suggest that PDGF stimulates the osteoblastic proliferation, whereas suppresses the individual cellular functions.

The purpose of this epidermiological analysis was to evaluate the periodontal status of Korean young adults(twenties) in order to provide detail & baseline data for frequence of periodontal disease. Two hundred and fifty young adults, aged 20-29 years, were selected by random sampling. Dental visity, scaling treatment, education, income, toothbrushing frequence & method were checked, and plaque index(Loe and silness), calculus index(Ramfjord), gingival index(Loe and silness), attached gingival width, perio probing depth, gingival recession were measured. The obtained results were as follows. 1. Average plaque index(1.96), calculus index(1.43), gingival index(1.7) were higher in mandible than maxillar. It was most prevalent in lst molar. 2. Average attached gingival width(4.0mm) was wider in maxillar than mandible. It was most prominent in lateral incisor. 3. Pocket depth(>4mm) was distributed in 42% subject, it was higher in mandible than maxilla and most prevalent in 1st molar. 4. Gingival recession(>1mm) was distributed in 94% subject, it was higher in mandible than maxilla, and most prevalant in canine. 5. According to unpaired t-test, palque index, calculus index, gingival index were not statistically significant in history of scaling treatment, level of eduction and account of income, but were showed statistically significant in histrory of dental clinic.(PB0.05) 6. According to ANOVA test, correlation between tooth-brushing(frequence, method) and gingival index was showed statistically significant.(P<0.05) 7. There was gingival recessionof 87% subject in only one time brushing, 80% subject in two time, and 68% subject in three times. There was gingival recessionof 68% subject in leftright direction tooth brushing, 73% subject in upper-low method and 77% subject in combination method.

The present study was attempted to investigate the mechanism of oxidative cellular injuries which occur in diabetic rats by determining changes of antioxidant enzymes activity in the lung of alloxan-induced diabetic rats, the contents of glutathione in the lung, liver, blood samples, and gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase activities in the liver. Superoxide dismutase activities (SOD), including Cu, Zn-SOD and Mn-SOD, decreased in the lung of diabetic rats compared with those of normal control rats. However, activities of catalase and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activities were not affected in the lung of diabetic rats. In diabetic rats, glutathione contents in the lung, liver, and blood samples, as well as the activities of gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase in the livers which is known to be the key enzyme of glutathione biosynthesis, decreased significantly. From these experimental results, it is thought that the decrease in SOD activities in the lung, glutathione contents and gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase activities in some tissues in alloxan-induced diabetic rats may be the crucial cause of vulnerability to oxidative cellular injuries.

Objectives: Despite the general assumption that the fewer hours of sleeping results in the higher severity of fatigue, few objective studies on the relevancy between the sleep quality and the level of fatigue severity of students in a medical school were made. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship with the level of fatigue severity to subjective sleep quality by making a survey on medical school students. Methods: During the period from September 1 to 24, 2012, a survey is conducted on lifestyle, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and fatigue severity scale for 180 students in their first to fourth year of OO university in Namwon, Jeollabukdo. To verify the relevancy between the level of fatigue severity and lifestyle of students of the medical school including the quality of sleep, the chi square test is conducted and to corroborate the relationship between the sleep quality and the level of fatigue severity, the multivariate logistic regression is made. Results: The multivariate logistic regression shows the fatigue severity of students over 5 in PSQI (odds ratio 16.701 95% confidence interval, 5.845-47.720; P<0.001) is significantly high compared to the others under 5 in PSQI while other life habits do not have any relevancy to the level of fatigue severity. Conclusion: In this study, many students in the medical school claim their sense of fatigue and in particular, the group without appropriate sleep shows the significantly high level of fatigue.

Reactive humsn mesothelial cells were examined by immunocytochemical stain with intermediate filaments (cytokeratin [CK1, CK7, CK8, CK18, CD19), vimentin, desmin, actin), epithelial membrane antigen, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), MHC class II antigen (HLA-DR), LeuM-1 (CD15), $\alpha1-antitrypsin$(ACT), $\alpha1-antichymotrypsin$ (ACHT), CD68(KP-1) and FcyRIII(CD16). The mesothelial cells were isolated from patients with liver cirrhosis and pleural effusion, and short-term cultured in RPMI 1640 media containing 10% heat inactivated fetal calf serum and 1% identical supernatant fluid of the patients' transudates. The results obtained are as follows 1. The cultured-reactive mesothelial cells were positive for the protein of cytoskeleton such as cytokeratin and vimentin, but negative for desmin and actin. The resting mesothelial cells showed positive reactions for cylokeratin, but negative for vimentin, desmin and actin. 2. The primary antibodies to the cytokeratin were strongly reactive for CK1, CK8 and CK18 but negative for CK7 and CK19 in both reactive and resting mesothelial cells. 3. Resting mesothelial cells showed negative reactions for CEA, but strong positive reactions in cultured-reactive mesothelial cells. 4. The markers for the monocytes/histiocytes(CD11b, CD14, CD16, CD68, Iysozyme and $\alpha1-antitrypsin$ and $\alpha1-antichymotrypsin$) were nonreactive in resting mesothelial cells, but lysozyme and $\alpha1-antitrypsin$ were weakly reactive in reactive and proliferative mesothelial cells. 5. MHC Class II molecule(HLA-DR antigen) was negative in both resting and reactive mesothelial cells. These results suggest that the short-term cultured, reactive mesothelial cells show a newly aberrant expression of the vimentin and calcine-embryonic antigen. The reason of the aberrant expression of the intermediate filament and oncofetal antigen in reactive and proliferative mesothelial cells should be further evaluated.

We have developed the quality analysis system for magnetic field effect of cathode-ray tube that is used a monitor, TV, medical appliance. We designed, constructed the large 3-axis square coil (2 m length) system for the generation of 3-component magnetic field using power supply, magnetometer, computer below 0.2 mT range. The coil constant is 30.31 μT, 29.73 μT, 30.51 μT for the X, Y,, Z axis square coil respectively. The magnetic field resolution was 0.01 T. The uniformity of magnetic field was measured within 1 % in the range of 12 ㎝.
