        Vegetation Classification Using Seasonal Variation MODIS Data

        The role of remote sensing in phenological studies is increasingly regarded as a key in understanding large area seasonal phenomena. This paper describes the application of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) time series data for vegetation classification using seasonal variation patterns. The vegetation seasonal variation phase of Seoul and provinces in Korea was inferred using 8 day composite MODIS NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) dataset of 2006. The seasonal vegetation classification approach is performed with reclassification of 4 categories as urban, crop land, broad-leaf and needle-leaf forest area. The BISE (Best Index Slope Extraction) filtering algorithm was applied for a smoothing processing of MODIS NDVI time series data and fuzzy classification method was used for vegetation classification. The overall accuracy of classification was 77.5% and the kappa coefficient was 0.61%, thus suggesting overall high classification accuracy.

        남북한 산림협력 방향과 과제: 국제사회 지원 사업을 바탕으로

        To sustainable inter-Korean cooperation, this study was suggested the implementation strategy of inter-Korean forest cooperation based on international organization support project in Democratic People’s Republic Korea (DPRK). While forest-related policies in DPRK have been newly proposed since Kim Jong Un's regime, this study analyzed the performance of the European Union's sustainable afforestation projects and suggested the implementation strategy for future inter-Korean cooperation. This study has confirmed that inter-Korean cooperation needs supporting at government level to large scale project and at non-government level to small scale project. It should be concurrently carried out in the process of forest cooperation between the two Koreas. It needs to include capacity building and international issues included Sustainable Development Goals. This study findings can help to understand and establish a step-by-step approach for inter-Korean forest cooperation. 지속가능한 남북협력을 위해 본 연구에서는 국제사회의 북한 산림 복구 지원 사업을 바탕으로 향후 남북산림협력 방향을 제시하였다. 김정은 정권 이후 북한 내 산림관련 정책들이 새롭게 제시되고 있는 가운데 본 연구에서는 유럽연합의 지속가능한 조림사업의 성과를 분석하여, 향후 남북산림협력 진행 방향을 제시하였다. 정부차원의 대규모 사업과 함께 국제사회를 포함한 민간차원의 소규모 사업이 동시에 진행되어야 함을 강조하였으며, 이에 따른 고려사항을 제시하였다. 능력배양을 위한 산림교육 지원을 포함하여 국제적인 이슈와 연계한 지속가능한발전목표 달성을 위한 산림협력사업이 진행될 수 있도록 해야 한다. 본 연구는 현재 준비 중인 남북산림협력 추진 시 북한 산림복구 지원을 위한 단계별 접근 전략수립에 도움이 될 것이다.

        Ecological Cooperation beyond the DMZ on the Korean Peninsula: Birds Know No Man-made Borders

        For over 70 years, people have been excluded from the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). However, flora and fauna have been able to live within and surrounding the DMZ beyond the control of humans. Birds are highly mobile, and through their movements within and across the border region, they also have the potential to identify valuable ecosystem and conservation priorities shared between the two Koreas and the wider Asian region. Since 2018, plans for the peaceful use and development of the Han River Estuary (HRE) in the Neutral Zone between the two Koreas, have been the subjects of peaceful dialogue on the Korean Peninsula. Further, the HRE has international importance for birds during the migratory season as defined by the Ramsar Convention, which uses the number of waterbirds and the percentage of the population of a waterbird species counted at a given wetland in determining that wetland’s international importance. The internationally endangered species on the IUCN Red List maintain wintering grounds in the HRE between two Koreas. This study suggests possible inter-Korean and wider regional cooperation regarding the ecological importance of the HRE for birds as well as other wildlife species and their habitats.

        STEAM 교육을 지원하는 ICT 융합형 블록 교구 개발을 위한 디자인 제안 - 조형 구축을 위한 블록 형상과 방법을 중심으로 -

        With the advance of ICT, convergent products and services have appeared. Our educational environments need to foster ICT-based convergent capable people through STEAM education. A standard framework for STEAM education consists of 3 steps: (1) situation presentation, (2) creative design, and (3) emotional experience. This can enhance students' creativity through the virtuous circle that teachers help students solve their own problems by themselves and make students feel satisfied with the process. Accordingly, the creative robot-making and its application with a convergent teaching aids blocks have been proposed. But, existing ICT convergent blocks are limited for students in order to realize their ideas with them easily and quickly. Thus, new ICT convergent blocks to support STEAM education are needed. This study aims to propose the strategies for the design of ICT convergent blocks as teaching aids for STEAM education. Through the in-depth case studies of existing ICT convergent blocks, the design for ICT convergent blocks that can create different forms quickly and easily were proposed based on the driven-problems. ICT 기술의 진보에 따라 융합제품과 융합 서비스가 등장하고 있으며 교육환경에서도 창의적 인재 육성을 위한 융합교육인 STEAM 교육이 강조되고 있다. STEAM 교육의 학습준거 틀인 상황 제시, 창의적 설계, 감성적 체험은 기존의 주입식, 암기식 교육과 다르게 학습자 스스로 문제를 해결하고 성취를 통한 학습 동기를 부여받는 선순환 구조를 통해 학생들의 창의성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 이에 따라 창의적 로봇 제작 및 활용 교육 방안이 제안되고 있으며 이를 위한 블록 교구들이 활용되고 있다. 그러나 기존의 ICT 융합 블록 교구들은 교육현장에서 학습자의 아이디어 실현을 위해 빠르고 쉽게 다양한 형태를 구체화하며 실험할 수 있는 교수, 학습 도구로써 한계를 지닌다. 따라서 STEAM 교육을 지원하는 ICT 융합형 창의 블록 교구의 개발이 요구되는 상황이다. 따라서 본 연구는 STEAM 교육에 적합한 ICT 융합형 창의 블록 교구 개발을 위한 디자인 전략을 제안하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위해 STEAM 교육 준거 틀을 기반으로 기존 ICT 융합형 창의 블록의 사례 분석을 통해 문제점을 도출하고, 이를 기반으로 창의적 설계 단계에서 학습자가 아이디어를 쉽고 빠르게 다양한 조형을 통해 구체화할 수 있는 ICT 융합형 창의 블록을 위한 디자인 방안이 제안되었다.

        Numerical Study on the Effect of Boat Tail Shape on Aerodynamic Drag of SUV

        Longitudinal vortex formed at the rear area of the vehicle is one of the main sources of vehicle aerodynamic drag. The boat tail shape is applied to reduce the longitudinal vortex strength of the SUV so that the aerodynamic drag is improved. For this study, a commercially available SUV produced by domestic automobile company, Hyundai Motor Company, is selected as a baseline model. The boat tail shape is modeled on the baseline model using the morphing technique. The effects of boat tail shape on the aerodynamic drag has been numerically analyzed for a SUV with or without undercover. A commercial flow solver, ANSYS Fluent, is used for this study. The driving speed of SUV is 140 km/h. Even though the same boat tail shape is applied to the same vehicle, the aerodynamic drag improvement depends on the flow pattern behind the vehicle. It can be improved when the strength of the longitudinal vortex is weakened by the airflow generated by the boat tail shape.

        건축디자인과정에서 발생하는 스케치와 창조적 디자인 행위의 상호작용분석을 위한 기초연구

        One of characteristics of the design process in the area of architectural design is the use of a number of different types of sketches. Designers place great emphasis on the sketch often because it is thought to be associated with innovation and creativity. Because of this emphasis researchers have also begun to focus on the sketch and its role of design. Especially emergent shapes through the sketches plays a significant role in the creative design. The first aim of this paper is to collect together and review the results closely related researches that have looked at the role of sketches in design process. The second aim of this paper is to review analogy and emergence that can be effective in facilitating creative design. At last the mutational emergent shapes are introduced.
