崔昌淳 全北大學校 1994 論文集 Vol.37 No.-
Structures of international politics are sometimes radically transformed by redefinitions of identity and interest : Gorbachev's New Thinking. Sadat's trip to Jerusalem, Nixon's opening to China, the emergence of a "European identity", and so on. Contextual factors help induce rethinking of identity and interest, but it is also in important part chosen by state actors. In this paper I address the logic of such choice―"autonomy" or "self-determination"―as a cause of structural change. The paper has four parts. In the first I define state autonomy and clarify its relationship to structural change. I then examine the problem that two distinct forms of structural theory, rationalist and constructivist, have in dealing with this kind of agency. In the third part I develop a constructivist model of state agency to deal with these problems, which conceptualizes states as actors constituted by a dialectical tension between corporate and social identities. On this basis, in the last section I sketch a framework for thinking about the preconditions for state autonomy in world politics and its implications for structural change.
Anthony Giddens의 거시적 역사사회학에 대한 연구
최창순 全北大學校 敎育大學院 1993 敎育論叢 Vol.13 No.-
The aim of this paper is first to outline the main elements of Giddens' structurationist account of historical change and then to confront a number of issues that can be raised about this approach. My conclusion is that efforts such as his should be seen as part of a broader reform movement already well established in comparative historical sociology and that it is far from clear that Giddens' version of theoretical bases or his substantive account of historical change should be simply be accepted.
