Purpose: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors most often arise from the anatomically discernible peripheral nerve or neurofibroma. Methods: A 55-year-old man had a rapidly growing pedunculated large mass on the sacrolumbar junction for 2 years. He has congenital neurofibromatosis type I. He had multiple caf-au-lait spots and multiple neurofibromas on the entire body. The mass developed from a subcutaneous nodule on the sacrolumbar junction and grew rapidly. The preoperative punch biopsy revealed a malignant peripheral nerve tumor. The mass was completely excised with 1cm free margin above the deep fascial plane. Results: There was no evidence of recurrence of tumor for 19 months of follow-up examination. Conclusion: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor is very rare and has unique feature. We report a successful case of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor with the review of the literatures.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of contrast enhancement in assessing the depth of stromal invasion in patients with uterine cervical tumors by comparing dynamic and late contrast-enhancedT1-weighted MR imaging with T2-weighted MR imaging.Materials and Methods : Of 58 surgically proven uterine cervical cancer patients, 31 in whom tumors were seen on MRI were included in this study. Using a 1.5 T magnet, T2-weighted contrast-enhanced dynamic, and T1-weighted MR imaging were performed. In each MR imaging sequence, tumor visualization, margin delineation, enhancement pattern and depth of stromal invasion were evaluated on sagittal images and were correlated with pathological findings of resected uterus, focusing on the depth of stromal invasion. Results : Surgical FIGO stages were IB1 in 20 patients, IB2 in three, IIA in six, and IIB in two. A tumor was detected in 29 (94%) patients on T2-weighted images, in 26 (84%) on dynamic contrast enhanced images, and in 28 (90%) on contrast enhanced T1-weighted images. The tumor demonstrated a clear margin in 22 (71%)patients on late contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images, in 21 (68%) on dynamic images, and in 13 (42%) onT2-weighted images. Correlated with pathologic findings, the depth of stromal invasion was overestimated onT2-weighted images in eight (26%) patients, and on dynamic and late contrast-enhanced T1-weighted images in three (10%) and three (10%) respectively. Conclusion : Tumor margins are clearer and the extent of tumors may be more accurately evaluated on dynamic MR and late contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging. These sequences thus seem to be useful, and superior to T2-weighted imaging, for assessing the depth of stromal invasion in patients with cervical carcinoma.
Influence of Cu Doping and Heat Treatments on the Physical Properties of ZnTe Films
최동일,윤세왕,김동환,Choe, Dong-Il,Yun, Se-Wang,Kim, Dong-Hwan Materials Research Society of Korea 1999 한국재료학회지 Vol.9 No.2
Thermally evaporated ZnTe films were investigated as a back contact material for CdS/CdTe solar cells. Two deposition methods, coevaporation and double-layer methods, were used for Cu doping in ZnTe films. ZnTe layers (0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$ thick) were deposited either on glass or on CdS/CdTe substrates without intentional heating of the substrates. Post-deposition annealing was performed at 200,300 and $400^{\circ}C$ for 3,6 and 9 minutes, respectively. Band gap of 2.2eV was measured for both undoped and doped films and a slight change in the shape of absorption spectra was observed in Cu-doped samples after annealing at $400^{\circ}C$. The resistivity of as-deposited ZnTe decreased from 10\ulcorner~10\ulcornerΩcm down to 10\ulcornerΩcm as Cu concentration increased from 0 to 14 at.%. There was not a noticeable change in less of annealing temperature up to $300^{\circ}C$ whereas films annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ revealed hexagonal (101) orientations as well. Some of Cu-doped ZnTe revealed x-ray diffraction (XRD) peaks related with Cu\ulcornerTe(x=1.75~2). Grain growth was observed from about 20nm in as-deposited films to 50nm after annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Cu distribution in ZnTe films was not uniform according to Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) measurements.

Purpose: The lower leg often has poor vascularity, proximity to bone, and insufficient soft tissue. The island flaps offer a feasible one stage reconstruction and has a remarkable vascularization and high quality results for soft tissue defect with or without bony problems to occur on regions below the knee. So we reported our experience of island flaps with review of the literatures. Methods: We reconstructed 29 cases of soft tissue and 2 cases of bony defect on regions below the knee by using various island flaps at our hospital from December, 1991 to January, 2006. We used 2 fibular osteocutaneous island flaps, 15 reverse sural island flaps, 6 extensor digitorum brevis muscular island flaps, 2 medial plantar island flaps, 5 saphenous island flaps, and a dorsalis pedis island flap. Results: Partial necrosis was developed in 4 out of 15 reverse sural island flaps and 1 out of 5 saphenous island flaps, but they were healed with secondary skin graft. There was partial loss of skin graft on the donor sites in 2 cases. Conclusion: Island flaps are very useful for reconstruction of regions below the knee because island flaps have good vascularity and less risk of infection. Generous flap size, easy operative technique, lower cost, shorter operative time, and minimal morbidity at the donor site are other advantages. We attained satisfactory results.

Background and Objectives: It has been suggested that tonsillectomy possibly causes changes of voice because the morphology of the vocal tract is altered. This may cause serious problems for professional voice users. Materials and Method: Subjects were 26 patients. The oral and nasal sound spectrum of oral vowel /a/, /e/ and /i/ were measured before and after tonsillectomy. The formant frequencies and intensities for oral and nasal spectra were compared. The nasality and fundamental frequencies for oral vowel were measured. Results: The first formant frequencies for oral spectra of all vowels were not changed after surgery, but the second formant frequencies were increased significantly after surgery in the vowel /e/ and /i/. The first and second formant intensities for oral spectra were increased significantly after surgery in the all vowels. The first and second formant frequencies for nasal spectra of all vowels were not changed after surgery, but their intensities for nasal spectra were increased after surgery. The nasalities for oral vowel were not changed after surgery. Conclusion : Tonsillectomy appeared to change the spectral features of oral and nasal components of oral vowel, especially spectral intensities.
