A field effect transistor (FET) measurement of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) shows a transition from a metallic one to a p-type semiconductor after helical wrapping of DNA. Water is found to be critical to activate this metal-semiconductor transition in the ssDNA?SWNT hybrid. Raman spectroscopy confirms the same change in electrical behaviors. A band gap can open up in a metallic SWNT with wrapped ssDNA in the presence of water molecules due to charge transfer.

Objectives This study examined recent domestic and international clinical research trends in Gua sha therapy to suggest future direction for research. Methods We used six domestic and international databases (Research Information Sharing Service, Korean studies Information Service System, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library) to select clinical studies with an original text in English or Korean published after 2018. Results Finally, 55 studies were selected. Randomized controlled trials accounted for the largest amount with 42 studies. Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization was the most frequent term referring to Gua sha. Muscle shortening, limited range of motion, and plantar fasciitis were the most common symptoms, with six cases each. Additionally, there were two studies targeting symptoms other than the musculoskeletal system. Conclusions Additional research is needed on the effects of Gua sha therapy on the back of the lower extremities and hip joints, and research is needed on the possibility of their clinical use for diseases or symptoms other than those of the musculoskeletal system. And standards for the terminology of Gua sha and the types and methods of applied interventions are needed. (J Korean Med Rehabil 2024;34(1):23-38)
소아 입원환자에서의 A형 및 B형 인플루엔자 임상 비교

목적: 소아 입원환자에서 A/H1N1, A/H3N2형 및 B형 인플루엔자 감염을 비교하고 항바이러스제의 효용성을 분석하고자 하였다. 방법: 2014년 1월부터 4월까지 창원파티마병원에 인플루엔자 감염으로 입원한 소아 환자들을 후향적 으로 분석하였다. 결과: 총 302명 중 인플루엔자 A/H1N1형 15명(5.0%), A/H3N2형 100명(33.1%), B형 187명(61.9%) 이었다. A는 24개월 미만, B는 24개월-6세 사이 감염자에서 높은 분포를 보였고(P =0.005). B형 인 플루엔자 감염군에서 발열 기간이 유의하게 길었다(P =0.001). 총 161명(53.3%)가 백신 접종자였으며, 감염 환자군 모두에서 oseltamivir를 복용한 환자들의 발열 기간이 유의하게 더 짧은 것으로 나타났다. 결론: A형과 B형 인플루엔자 환자는 연령 분포 및 임상 경과에 유의한 차이를 보였으며, oseltamivir 는 효과의 차이는 있었으나 두 군 모두에서 효용성이 있다. Purpose: The objective of this study was to compare the clinical characteristics of influenza A and B infections and analyze the effect of oseltamivir in hospitalized children. Methods: We investigated children under the age of 15, who were diagnosed with influenza A/H1N1, A/H3N2, or B from January to April 2014. The subjects were admitted to the Changwon Fatima Hospital and diagnosed using a rapid antigen test from nasopharyngeal swabs. The medical records of the patients were retrospectively reviewed. Results: A total of 302 pediatric patients with influenza were enrolled. Influenza B infection was the most common type (n=187, 61.9%), followed by A/H3N2 (n=100, 33.1%) and A/H1N1 (n=15, 5.0%). Compared to patients diagnosed with influenza A, patients diagnosed with influenza B were older (P =0.005), and the duration of fever was significantly longer (P =0.001). A total of 161 patients (53.3%) had been vaccinated against influenza during the season, before admission. Among the patients infected with A/H3N2 and B, the duration of fever was shorter in oseltamivir recipients compared to oseltamivir non-recipients (P =0.026 and P =0.004, respectively). Conclusions: There were significant differences between influenza A and B groups in terms of age, demographics, and clinical course. Although the effectiveness of oseltamivir on influenza differs according to the type of influenza, our data provides evidence that oseltamivir is beneficial for both A and B infections.
움직이는 물체의 시공간 분석을 위한 동영상 빅 데이터 처리 방안

최근 블랙박스 및 CCTV 같은 영상 촬영 장치가 보편화되면서, 방대한 양의 영상 데이터가 실시간으로 생성되고 있다. 만약 이 대용량 데이터 안의 차량 정보를 추출할 수 있다면 범죄 차량 추적, 교통 혼잡도 측정 등의 활용이 가능할 것이다. 이를 구현하기 위해서는 수많은 자동차에서 실시간으로 생성되는 영상 데이터를 처리할 수 있는 시스템이 필수적이나, 이러한 시스템을 찾기 힘든 것이 현실이다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 아파치 카프카, Hbase를 이용한 영상 빅데이터 처리 시스템을 제안한다. 아파치 카프카는 시스템 내에서 영상 손실이 없는 전송과 영상 처리 노드의 스케줄링을 수행하며, Hbase는 처리된 데이터를 테이블로 저장하고 사용자가 보낸 쿼리를 처리한다. 더불어, Hbase에 인덱스를 구성하여 빠른 쿼리 처리가 가능하도록 만든다. 실험 결과, 제안된 시스템은 인덱스가 없을 때보다 뛰어난 쿼리 처리 성능을 보이는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
Improvement of Nanosphere Lithography Using Nano Template

Nanosphere lithography has been studied as a general fabrication method to produce periodic particle array with nanometer scale features. This paper presents the first sub-100 ㎚ nanosphere lithography (NSL) with an optimized spin coating condition and a nano template structure. The spin coating condition was tuned to obtain the best possible crystal formation. The qualities of the crystal domain, i.e., regularity and coverage, were further improved when a nano-trench structure was used as a template. We demonstrate a sub-100 ㎚ nanohole array over 1㎟ area with subsequent fabrication steps.

It has been known that a single strand DNA wraps around a SWNT by a π-π stacking. Here we demonstrate that such DNA is dissociated from the SWNT by forming a Watson-Crick base pairing with a complementary sequence. The measurement of FET characteristics indicates the shift of electrical property as a result of this “unwrapping” event. We further confirm the suggested process through atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and gel electrophoresis.

Objectives: Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are considered to have problems with empathy. It has recently been suggested that there are two systems for empathy; cognitive and emotional. We aimed to investigate the neural response to cognitive and emotional empathy and elucidate the neurobiological aspects of empathy in patients with ASD. Methods: We recruited patients with ASD (N=17, ASD group) and healthy controls (HC) (N=22, HC group) for an functional magnetic resonance imaging study. All of the subjects were scanned while performing cognitive and emotional empathy tasks. The differences in brain activation between the groups were assessed by contrasting their neural activity during the tasks. Results: During both tasks, the ASD group showed greater neural activities in the bilateral occipital area compared to the HC group. The ASD group showed more activation in the bilateral precunei only during the emotional empathy task. No brain regions were more activated in the HC group than in the ASD group during the cognitive empathy task. While performing the emotional empathy task, the HC group exhibited greater neural activities in the left middle frontal gyrus and right anterior cingulate gyrus than the ASD group. Conclusion: This study showed that the brain regions associated with cognitive and emotional empathy in ASD patients differed from those in healthy individuals. The results of this study suggest that individuals with ASD might have defects both in cognitive empathy and in emotional empathy.
