When we develop an OpenGL-based coastline map that displays the high resolution data of GSHHG, it takes tens of seconds until the first scene is rendered. That is because it takes time to tessellate polygons with a huge number of vertices. A commonly used solution is that it converts original data to a customized data in advance, and it displays these. But if we should use original data to display a coastline map, we need to find another solution. In this paper we suggest using a polygon splitting technique to minimize tessellation time. In order to prove its effectiveness, we implemented a software applied this technique and measured its performance. The software applied this technique took a few seconds to display the first scene and we confirmed its effectiveness.

A novel procedure is proposed to identify the functional form of nonlinear restoring forces in the nonlinear oscillatory motion of a conservative system. Although the problem of identification has a unique solution, formulation results in a Volterra-type of integral equation of the “first” kind: the solution lacks stability because the integral equation is the “first” kind. Thus, the new problem at hand is ill-posed. Inevitable small errors during the identification procedure can make the prediction of nonlinear restoring forces useless. We overcome the difficulty by using a stabilization technique of Landweber’s regularization in this study. The capability of the proposed procedure is investigated through numerical examples.

The most important things in real-time systems are that a system guarantees to meet its deadline and to operate in its predictable range. When we design a real-time system, we need to verify whether the system can meet its deadline through schedulability analysis. There are several kinds of schedulability analysis technique for fixed priority scheduling systems. But as we all know, we can't perform schedulability analysis in design time because we can't estimate upper bounds on execution time of each task. So we used a similar real-time system to estimate upper bounds on execution time for our system, and then we performed schedulability analysis and verified that our system designed can meet its deadline.
Inverse determination of the loading source of the infinite beam on elastic foundation

The primary aim of the paper is to identify the loading source of infinite beams on an elastic foundation from given information of vertical deflection of infinite beams. An integral equation is obtained for the relationship between loading distribution and vertical deflection. It is shown that the inverse identification of a loading source is one-to-one but ill-posed. Because of ill-posedness, the usual numerical schemes produce arbitrarily large errors. A method for the solution is proposed by using Tikhonov’s regularization. L-curve criterion is introduced for the determination of optimal regularization parameter. Numerical experiments show that the present methodology is accurate and robust in the inverse determination of loading source.

This paper treats a solution for the ill-posed (inverse) load determination problem for a time-varying load on a beam. The ill-posed nature of the problem causes numerical instability. Conventional numerical approach for solutions results in arbitrarily large errors in solution. The Tikhonov regularization method, which is a non-iterative stabilization technique, has been widely adopted for overcoming the ill-posed nature (or numerical instability). However, in this paper, we introduce an “iterative” regularization method, specifically, the iterated Tikhonov regularization method. The iterated method is applied to the present load determination problem. The result of the iterative method is compared with that of the (non-iterative) Tikhonov regularization. The rate of convergence for the introduced iterative method turned out to be very fast. The accuracy and applicability of the introduced method are examined through a numerical experiment.

Recently, a new method for reconstructing a forced nonlinear dynamic system has been proposed; specifically, the simultaneous reconstruction of its excitation as well as restoring characteristics of the system. The reconstruction was just theoretically shown to be possible by measuring the systems responses, based on newly introduced notions, a J-function and a zero-crossing time. However, numerically in the current paper, we are to reconstruct a linear system, i.e., we focus on numerical experiments to reconstruct both the excitation and the linear restoring characteristic of a linear forced oscillating system by using response data, based on the J-function and the zero-crossing time.

네트워크 관리자는 트래픽 증가에 따른 네트워크 성능저하 문제를 해결하기 위해 개별 링크에 필요한 용량을 산정해야할 때가 있다. 대규모 네트워크의 경우 이산 사건 시뮬레이션만을 수행하여 용량을 산정하는 것보다 분석적 시뮬레이션을 함께 사용하여 용량을 산정한다면 시뮬레이션에 필요한 시간을 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 링크 용량계획을 위한 분석적 시뮬레이션의 활용방안을 논하고 그 기법을 기술하였다. 제안한 분석적 시뮬레이션 기법은 정상상태의 네트워크 분석이기 때문에 이산 사건 시뮬레이션에 비해 시뮬레이션에 소요되는 시간은 작지만 정확도는 낮다. 하지만 대규모 네트워크의 상태를 빠르게 파악하고 문제를 해결해야 한다면 좀 더 정밀한 시뮬레이션이나 분석을 위한 사전자료를 만들기에 충분할 것이다.

그리드 컴퓨팅을 실현하기 위해서는 Virtual Organization을 구성하는 개인, 기관, 그리고 자원 등의 동적인 집합에 대해 유연하고 안정적이며 통합된 자원의 공유를 구현해야 한다. 이를 위해 해결해야 할 많은 과제들 중에는 인증과 권한 부여가 있으며 이 두 가지는 단일시스템의 계정관리에 속한다. 현재 그리드 컴퓨팅을 실현하기 위한 많은 middleware들 중에서 확고한 위치를 차지하고 있는 Globus Toolkit은 grid-mapfile을 이용하여 정적인 사용자 계정관리를 하기 때문에 동적 특성을 가진 그리드 컴퓨팅에는 적합하지 않다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 그리드 컴퓨팅을 위한 사용자 계정관리시스템에 대한 기존의 연구를 토대로 그리드 사용자 계정관리시스템을 Globus Toolkit 3.2를 기반으로 설계하였다.

Optimization of marine propellers of constant pitch is studied, with the help of the infinite dimensional optimization (Jang and Kinoshita,2000a), which is based on the Hilbert space theory. As a numerical example, the MAU type propeller is considered and used as the initial guess for the optimization method. The numerical computations for an optimal marine propeller are performed for the constant pitch distribution. In addition, a new optimization is suggested with the constraint of constant pitch during optimization.
