As a growing number of people have pet animals and veterinarians undergo consequent medical treatment for pet animals, so legal disputes are on the rise. In judging the duty of explanation as well as the duty of care by a veterinarian’s medical practice in legal action, the court analogically applies legal principles of doctor’s duty of explanation to pet owners on the grounds that veterinary practice is similar to medical practice one with its high profession and that such practice is aimed to enhance an animal’s health. The recent amendment to the Veterinarians Act has stipulated that when a veterinarian performs a treatment which he/she deems likely to cause serious harm to an animal’s life or its body and he/she fails to fulfill the duty of explanation, it can constitute a breach of law. However, there is controversy as to whether infringement of a pet owner’s self-determination right might be recognized as the same legal principles as a patient’s autonomy right like the judgment. First of all, this paper explored relevant theoretical grounds and legal interests of the doctor’s and veterinarian’s duty of explanation and then looked into the similarities and differences between the patent’s autonomy and the pet owner’s self-determination right. The fulfillment of the veterinarian’s duty of explanation is premised on the fact that pet owners are entitled to have a self-determination right as to whether an animal gets veterinary treatment or not. Unlikely, the fulfillment of the doctor’s duty of explanation is a precondition that can enable patients to have the right of self-determination as a patient, closely associated with human dignity regarding intrusion upon one’s own body, except the patient’s autonomy right of medical contracts. Although there are discrepancies in legal nature and protection scope between a patient’s autonomy and a pet owner’s self-determination right, pet owners are entitled to have the same self-determination right as a patient regarding intrusion upon a body, citing that a veterinarian’s medical treatment is similar to a doctor’s medical practice, according to such judgment. However, veterinary treatment has something to do with one’s possession; in other words, intrusion upon an animal’s body rather than a pet owner. Therefore, if a veterinarian violates the duty of explanation for its treatment, it is then appropriate that infringement is properly considered to be on the self-determination right as a consumer, not on the self-determination right as a patient. In judging the veterinarian’s duty of explanation, this paper suggests that a pet owner will be entitled to have a self-determination right as a consumer who is related to a contract made for an animal’s treatment with a veterinarian within the legal interests of protection, rather than a self-determination right as a patient regarding intrusion upon a body, by the court considering the causes and backgrounds for new regulations of duty of explanation for serious treatment, including operation, under the Veterinarians Act and discrepancies in legal nature and protection scope between a constitutional patient’s autonomy and a pet owner’s self-determination right.
베이지안 기법을 적용한 Incomplete data 기반 신뢰성 성장 모델의 모수 추정

신뢰성 성장 시험을 수행하며 획득하게 되는 고장 정보와 누적 시험수행시간을 이용하면 신뢰성 성장 모델의 모수 추정이 가능하며, 모수 추정을 통해 해당 제품의 MTBF를 예측할 수 있다. 그러나 시험에 대한 비용, 시간 혹은 제품의 특성 등의 여러 제약으로 인해 고장 정보가 구간적으로 획득되거나, 획득한 고장 정보의 샘플 데이터(Sample Data)의 수가 작을 수 있다. 이는 신뢰성 성장 모델의 모수 추정의 오차를 커지게 하는 원인이 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 샘플 데이터의 수가 작을 경우 신뢰성 성장 모델의 모수 추정 시 베이지안 기법 기반의 모수 추정 방법의 적용에대해 연구를 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 신뢰성 성장 모델의 모수를 추정할 때, MLE를 적용하여 추정하는 방법보다 베이지안 기법을 적용하는 방법이 추정 정확도가 높음을 확인하였다. By using the failure information and the cumulative test execution time obtained by performing the reliability growth test, it is possible to estimate the parameter of the reliability growth model, and the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of the product can be predicted through the parameter estimation. However the failure information could be acquired periodically or the number of sample data of the obtained failure information could be small. Because there are various constraints such as the cost and time of test or the characteristics of the product. This may cause the error of the parameter estimation of the reliability growth model to increase. In this study, the Bayesian method is applied to estimating the parameters of the reliability growth model when the number of sample data for the fault information is small. Simulation results show that the estimation accuracy of Bayesian method is more accurate than that of Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) respectively in estimation the parameters of the reliability growth model.

In this study, antioxidation and anti-inflammatory activity Agaricus Brazei (AC) extract were examined. Antioxidation activity was increased as the concentration of AC extract increased (Concentration-dependant manner). The contents of phenolic compounds and flavonoids were 111.3019 mg/g and 15.473 mg/g, respectively. In anti-inflammatory effect test using AC extract, no toxicity was shown. NO production was inhibited in range of 50 to 100 μg/mL of AC extract as concentration dependant manner. PGE₂ and Proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 production was decreased as concentration dependant manner. However, TNF-α production was not changed compare to control. iNOS and COX-2 expression, representative factors of signal transduction of inflammatory effects, were decreased as dose-dependant manner. These result indicates that AC extract is involved in regulatory pathway of iNOS, which is related to NO, and COX-2, which is related to PGE₂. As a result, AC extract is useful material which has anti-oxidant effect and anti-inflammatory effect with no toxicity.
신령버섯 생물전환 추출물이 인간 섬유아세포의 콜라겐 합성 및 Matrix Metalloproteinase-1 생성에 미치는 영향

Agaricus blazei, a mushroom, has been traditionally used not only as a medicine to treat diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure, but also as a food. However, the anti-wrinkle and anti-aging properties of Agaricus blazei extract has not been elucidated. Here we evaluated the effect of Agaricus blazei extract and its biorenovation product on the production of metalloproteinsase-1 (MMP-1) and type 1 collagen in TNF-α-treated human dermal fibroblast (HDFs). We identified the newly emerged peaks of biorenovation product on HPLC chromatogram. Relative to its nonbiorenovation control group, the proliferation and cell viability in biorenovation product-treated HDFs were increased across the concentration range of sample treatments. Our results also showed that biorenovation product significantly suppressed the production level of MMP-1 but conversely increased the secretion level of type 1 collagen as compared with those of controls. In this study, we reported the significant improvement of anti-wrinkle and anti-aging properties of Agaricus blazei extract through biorenovation process, which would in turn facilitate the research and development process of cosmetic products.
