Objectives : Meningeal hemangiopericytoma is a rare tumor. Clinical and radiological features are similar to those of an ordinary meningioma. But its biological behavior is quite different from those of a meningioma as it brings profuse bleeding in the operation field, frequent recurrence and metastasis to other systemic organs even in the case of gross total resection. In order to find out the prognostic factors and to compare longterm outcome after various treatment modalities, the authors reviewed consecutive 20 operated cases of meningeal hemangiopericytoma to characterize their clinical features, surgical outcomes and effectiveness of the radiation therapy. Methods : Twenty patients with a hemangiopericytoma were treated between 1982 and 1999 in our department. They are composed of 13 patients of hemangiopericytoma and 7 patients who were initially diagnosed as angioblastic type meningioma and then confirmed as a hemangiopericytoma after review of their previous histopathology slides. The mean follow-up period was 99 months(1-256 months). The long-term outcomes after various treatment modalities were evaluated according to recurrence-free survival and image follow-up. Recurrence-free survival curves are compared between the patient groups according to the extent of removal and radiation therapy. Results : There were 10 cases of recurrence and 4 cases of distant metastases ; lung, liver and femur(2 cases) respectively. The 5-year recurrence rate was 37%, while the 10-year recurrence rose to 77%. There was also statistically significant difference of median recurrence-free survival between the completely-resected group(Simpson grade 1 or 2) and partially-resected group(Simpson grade 3 or 4 or 5) ; 137 months compared to 47 months, respectively(p=0.009). The median recurrence-free period after subtotal resection of tumor and postoperative radiotherapy was 47 months compared to 117 months of the patients who underwent gross total resection of tumor and did not receive radiotherapy. But radiation therapy alone did not show significant difference in recurrence-free survival. Marked tumor volume reduction and easy removal of tumors without bleeding were found in 2 recurred cases. Conclusion : The extent of tumor resection and presence of metastasis are the most important factors related to long-term outcome of the patients with hemangiopericytoma. Radiation therapy after the first operation did not have a role in extending the recurrence-free survival, but it affected favorably to decrease the size of residual mass and intraoperative bleeding during the second operation.

In Auto transmission, Oil pump is essential part, which is producing oil flow to lubrication and oil pressure with controlling clutch or brake members. By using EOP system driven independently, we can control the pump revolution on optimal control and save the oil pump power loss and fuel efficiency can realistically be achieved 2~3%. This paper proposes EOP System (1pump & 2pump) and pump control method by simulation.

Mechanical failure and noise due to vibration are problems associated with a high-speed winder when operated at a higher operation speed at an industrial site. Such a phenomenon is due to resonance owing to the close proximity of the operating speed and natural frequency of the winder. In order to solve this problem, a design to avoid resonance is required. A design is proposed to avoid natural frequencies near the operating speed (17,000 rpm). In this paper, the design parameters of a high-speed winder are defined with a manufacturer. Modal analyses were performed by changing design parameters using ANSYS to obtain the natural frequencies. In order to analyze deformation when a high-speed winder with an unbalanced mass was rotated at the operational speed, simulations for harmonic excitation were performed.

With the building is higher and higher, the stack effect is more and more remarkable. The stack effect accompanies many problems in high-rise building such as draft, troublesome in door opening, uncomfortable noise, contaminants diffusion, etc. In this study, the contaminant diffusion behaviors caused by stack effect in high-rise building was analyzed. The analysis was performed for high-rise residential building in Suwon, Korea. And the air movement, contaminant diffusion and contaminants concentration were analyzed with network simulation method. This simulation was accomplished by field measurement results. The results show that the contaminants moves with air movement which affected by stack effect. Also, the extent and rate of diffusion depend on the contaminant occurrence location and air flows in building.

The stack effect in high-rise buildings is more remarkable with the building height is higher and higher and the temperature difference between outdoor and indoor space is larger. Moreover the stack effect can be brought about the deterioration of many kind of problems. In this study, as a measure to attenuate the stack effect, the E/V shaft cooling method was proposed and the performances were compared with the conventional stack effect control method as strengthening the building air-tightness by numerical simulation method. The total decreasing ratios on the draft in a building were mainly compared with each other, and the probabilities of the secondary problems and the leduction effect on ΔP at each wall of the building were analyzed also. The results show that the E/L shaft cooling is very effective as the measure to decrease the draft and ΔP in high-rise building. Also, this method does not cause the secondary problems such as stack pressure transition to other walls as shown in conventional stack effect decreasing method.

The crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) is the most widely used insulating material for power cable. Due to its thermosetting characteristics, the XLPE can not be recycled, while the needs for the environmental friendly and recyclable insulator is rapidly increasing. In this paper, some important and basic electrical properties of non-crosslinked polyethylene such as conduction current characteristics, water the tree characteristics, AC breakdown test were experimentally investigated. It was shown that some of the tested samples had better performances from the application point of view for replacing current XLPE.
