As environmental regulations and car safety regulations have been strengthened globally, automobile industry have tried to overcome these regulations. One of solutions is to apply various High Strength Steel (HSS) to car body, which reduce the weight of car bodies and increases its strength. However, the combination of lecture type and thickness are very various and it will take a lot of time to conduct welding evaluation through experiments. In order to solve these problems, evaluation of resistance spot welding is being performed using simulation. In this study, resistance spot welding was simulated to produce nugget diameter of 1500 MPa steel. As a result, a lobe curve can be obtained and a two regression model is proposed as a model that can predict the nugget diameter of the welded part. We also proposed a two regression model with minimized input arguments. The performance of these models was evaluated in terms of the coefficient of determinant and average error rate.

Recently in the welding field, the establishment of unmanned and automated systems are rapidly developing. Accurate interpretation of the welding phenomenon is applied a number of monitoring systems. In this paper, butt welding (6t) type I using Plasma-MIG welding was carried out. And we evaluated characteristics of the Al-5083 aluminium alloy in Plasma-MIG hybrid welding. Process variables including the plasma current, MIG voltage, wire feeding rate and the welding speed were used. Butt welding was conducted 1 pass. Argon gas was used as the protective gas that results from the experiment were able to achieve full penetration. In addition to monitoring the welding process occurring during MIG welding current, welding votage and Plasma current, voltage were collected in real time, the photodiode and CCD cameras observing the phenomenon that the welding is in progress were measured using a quantity of light.

In this paper, I-butt welding with 6mm thickness using Plasma-GMA welding was carried out. And weld characteristics of the Al-5083 aluminium alloy for Plasma-GMA hybrid welding was evaluated. The orthogonal experimental design was used to investigate the influence of plasma-MIG welding parameters such as plasma current, wire feeding rate, MIG-welding voltage and welding speed on the weld bead geometry and tensile strength using the ANOVA(Analysis of Variation). Then we conducted evaluation of contribution for process parameters. ANOVA results show that bead dimensions are affected by wire feeding speed, welding voltage and welding speed and tensile strength is mainly affected by welding speed and plasma arc current. Tensile strength was decreased by rise in plasma welding current because GMA welding current was decreased by plasma arc.

A water meter is widely using to measure the amount of water flow but sometimes the water inside a water meter takes a phase transition from liquid to solid (or freezing) at a temperature below a freezing point in winter. This phase transition causes the serious malfunction such as blocking of a flow, shutdown of a process and breakage of a water meter. In this paper, a new design structure of a water meter, which occupies a bellows tube, is proposed for preventing the breakage by freezing and the prevention effect of freezing breakage was verified using finite element analysis. When a working pressure of 0.3MPa at new design of a water meter was applied, a maximum magnitude of Von-Mises stress was 81.78MPa and it belonged to a safe range compared by a yield stress of a brass material. In addition, the water meter at the lower temperature could afford to properly work because the inside volume of the bellows tube expanded during an ice generation. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the new water meter having a bellows tube effectively prevents the breakage.

Defects in flux cored arc welding (FCAW) using CO₂ gas not only deteriorate the quality of the welded part, but also increase the overall quality cost (Q-cost) due to the need for maintenance and welding. Destructive inspection and non-destructive inspection are two methods used to detect defects, but they are costly and time consuming. An alternate and advanced technique of detecting defects is by using a welding waveform. However, when the unprocessed welding waveform is checked, it is difficult to distinguish between normal and abnormal waveforms according to the metal transfer mode. This is because the waveforms are significantly different based on whether or not a short circuit occurs. Therefore, an algorithm that can detect defects from waveforms, independent of the presence of a short circuit, is required. The developed algorithm should be able to detect defects using welding waveforms. In this study, we provide a method to detect defects by using the interval statistical processing method, according to the time series of welding data displayed in the welding monitoring system.
