The hypoglycemic effect of mulberry leaves using alloxan-induced diabetic mice was investigated. The hypoglycemic effect of mulberry leaves was significantly affected with anaerobic incubation up to for 6 hrs. The body weight of mice treated with 20% anaerobic conditioned mulberry leaves was higher than that in the control group. Mulberry leaves which were treated with anaerobic condition significantly decreased blood glucose level in alloxan-induced type I diabetes mice. Furthermore, glucose tolerance was significantly recovered by feeding mulberry leaves anaerobically treated. Pathological analysis revealed that the disappearance of insulin-secreting beta-cells in the islets of Langerhans from the alloxan induced diabetic mice was strongly inhibited in the mulberry leaves feeding group. The content of 1-deoxynojirimycin increased up to 5% in detached mulberry leaves incubated under nitrogen gas for 6 hrs. Nevertheless, it is not clear whether the synthesis of 1-deoxynojirimycin is increased or the degradation of it is decreased. Overall, results obtained from this study indicate that the hypoglycemic effect was increased by the mulberry leaves with anaerobic treatment.
뽕잎추출물이 콜레스테롤 투여 흰쥐의 혈청지질에 미치는 영향

뽕잎이 고지혈증에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 고지혈증이 유도된 흰쥐의 뽕잎추출물을 경구투여한 후 혈청학ㆍ조직학적인 검사를 행하였고, 부가적으로 뽕잎이 인체의 지질대사에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 뽕잎추출물을 흰쥐의 각각 0.1g/㎏ of body weight과 1g/㎏ of body weight의 농도로 투여함으로써 총 콜레스테롤과 중성지질 함량을 유의성있게 감소시켰고 또한 총 콜레스테롤 중의 HDL-콜레스테롤이 차지하는 비와 lipase의 활성을 증가시켰다. 이러한 혈청학적인 결과는 조직학적인 검사를 통하여 확인할 수 있었고 인체실험에서도 동물실험에서와 같은 경향을 나타냈고 특히 뽕잎파우더의 투여로 중성지질이 유의적으로 감소하였다. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of mulberry leaves on lipid metabolism in cholesterol-induced hypercholesterolemia rats. The mulberry treatment group showed decreases of serum lipid concentration compared with hyperlipidemic group. Also, Mulberry leaves inhibited the activity of HMG-Co A reductase, increased lipase activity. In histopathological examination, abdominal aorta showed no critical lesions with mulberry leaves treatment. These results suggest that hypolipidemic effects of mulberry leaves on rats were the inhibition of cholesterol synthesis and acceleration of cholesterol catabolism in the liver. For human, serum triglyceride contents were more significantly decreased with treatment of mulberry leaves powder.

흰쥐에게 뽕잎을 4주동안 투여하여 장기능에 미치는 영향을 알아본 결과, 사료이용효율은 10% 투여구에서 14% 감소되었고, 장 통과시간은 1% 투여구에서 16%, 10% 투여구에서 21% 빨라졌다. 장의 길이는 1% 투여구에서 10%, 10% 투여구에서 11% 증가되었고, 장 통과속도는 1% 투여구에서 30%, 10% 투여구에서 40% 빨라졌다. 변의 pH는 대조구가 6.91인데 비해 1% 투여구는 6.07, 10% 투여구는 5.95로서 뽕잎 투여량이 증가함에 따라 변의 pH는 점차 낮아졌다. 변량은 1% 투여구에서 57%, 10% 투여구에서 91% 증가되었다. 변중의 무기성분 중에서 K의 함량이 50% 증가하였으나, 이는 뽕잎 중에 K함량이 많기 때문으로 생각된다. This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary mulberry leaf powder on gastrointestinal function of rats. Plot containing one and ten percent mulberry leaf powder was supplied with rats. The food efficiency ratio (FER) of rat fed with 10% mulberry leaf powder was decreased 14%. The transit time of rat fed with 1% and 10% mulberry leaf was faster 16% and 21% than that of control respectively. Intestine length was increased 10% and 11% at 1% and 10% dietary mulberry leaf respectively. The transit speed was faster 30% at 1% dieatry mulberry leaf than that of control. The pH of rat's feces suplied with mulberry leaf was lower than that of control. The amount of daily rat's feces fed mulberry leaf was much than that of control. As above results, we suggest that mulberry leaf was evaluated to improve the function of rat's gastrointestine.
