Comparison of the miR-23b and miR-203 Expressions in Endometrial Cancer

MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) are a group of small noncoding RNAs that modulate gene expression. Many studies, demonstrating altered expressions of specific miRNAs in diverse types of human neoplasia, suggested that they may play a key role in tumorigenesis. Recently, miRNA genes were found to be abnormally expressed in several types of cancer, including endometrial cancer. However, miR-23b and miR-203 expression in endometrial cancer has yet to be studied in Korea. As such, the purpose of this study was to analyze miR-23b and miR-203 expressions in endometrial cancer and to evaluate the relationship between miR-23b and miR-203 expressions. A retrospective study was carried out on the formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues of 42 endometrial cancer tissues using quantitative real-time PCR. In endometrial cancer tissues, miR-23b expression levels (2.70±4.45) were higher than miR-203 expression levels (-2.34±4.08). Endometrial cancer tissues showed an overexpression of miR-23b in 30 (71.4%) of the 42 endometrial cancer cases, whereas miR-203 was underexpressed in 29 (69.0%) of the 42 cases. There was a significant association between miR-23b and miR-203 expressions in endometrial cancer tissues (p=0.0005). These findings suggest that miR-23b and miR-203 expressions may be involved in endometrial carcinogenesis. More studies are needed to further define the relationship between miR-23b and miR-203 expressions and tissue-specific protein expression.

Bone marrow edema is a common and nonspecific finding on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and results from various diseases including infection, inflammation, neoplasm, injury, and osteoarthritis. However, bone marrow edema syndrome (BMES) represents a distinct entity with specific clinical and imaging features such as diffuse extensions, the lack of other morphologic alterations, no history of trauma, and reversible disease courses. BMES is caused by ischemic changes, and thus, it is postulated to occur as a result of the thrombosis in a patient with primary anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS). Here, we present a case of 67-year-old male with a history of stroke, being presented with fever of unknown origin and pain on both knees. He had high titers of IgG and IgM anti-cardiolipin antibodies which titers didn’t change after 3 months. He was diagnosed as having a BMES due to typical MRI findings. After the introduction of anticoagulation, fever and joint pain were subsided. Our case suggests that BMES can develop within a patient with APS, thus early detection of differentiations is essential to avoid unnecessary treatments.

A Review of Three Different Studies on Hidden Markov Models for Epigenetic Problems: A Computational Perspective

Recent technical advances, such as chromatin immunoprecipitation combined with DNA microarrays (ChIp-chip) andchromatin immunoprecipitation–sequencing (ChIP-seq), have generated large quantities of high-throughput data. Consideringthat epigenomic datasets are arranged over chromosomes, their analysis must account for spatial or temporal characteristics. In that sense, simple clustering or classification methodologies are inadequate for the analysis of multi-track ChIP-chip orChIP-seq data. Approaches that are based on hidden Markov models (HMMs) can integrate dependencies between directlyadjacent measurements in the genome. Here, we review three HMM-based studies that have contributed to epigeneticresearch, from a computational perspective. We also give a brief tutorial on HMM modelling–targeted at bioinformaticianswho are new to the field.

웹툰 흥행 요소와 OST 결합 방식에 대한 효과 연구 -웹툰 <취향저격 그녀>를 중심으로-

As the domestic and global webtoon markets expand, the success in fusion with many other fields increases the area of secondary creations. In this context, webtoon OST generated from the combination of webtoon with music develops into a new area of Hallyu (the Korean Wave) goods. Webtoon OST frequently ranks high in the track chart and line-up for famous musicians and enjoys popularity among the general public and readers by sharing the world view of webtoon and containing the heart lines of the characters. OST has developed into an emerging powerhouse in the music market as it has gained influence in webtoons as well as movies and dramas. As webtoon OST rises, therefore, it is necessary to present a direction for its success in settling as a new genre. This study aimed to analyze She Is My Type, which has succeeded in such forms as webtoon and OST, and determine the interworking structure through which the effects of the combination between the two fields had extended its popularity. It aimed to review relevant literature, reports, and books by investigating enjoyment in stories, characters, and empathy with the readers factors, which had made She Is My Type more popular, and by analyzing the correlation between success factors for existing webtoon and OST. On the basis of the findings from these factors, the interworking structure through which webtoon She Is My Type and the released OST had extended its popularity was examined. The results are as follows: First, She Is My Type keeps readers interested with constantly repeated materials that make them experience many different feelings through the process of accumulation of tension and its dramatic resolution. Second, the story’s completeness was improved by adding growth under the theme of clear character performance and “types”, and various fashion styles within the frame of the theme satisfied visual fun. Third, it gave the largest number of dramatic situations and twists in Season Two to make readers curious and the combination of the lyrics containing the story and the star power of the star singer participating in the OST has expanded the area of the webtoon OST market. Lastly, a direction necessary to make integrated growth of webtoon and OST was presented. 국내외 웹툰 시장 규모가 커지면서 다양한 분야와의 융합 성공으로 인해2차 창작물의 영역이 넓어지고 있다. 그 중 웹툰과 음악의 결합으로 탄생한웹툰 OST는 새로운 한류 상품 영역으로 발전해 왔다. 웹툰 OST는 유명 가수들의 라인업과 음원차트 상위권에도 자주 등장하고 있으며, 웹툰의 세계관 공유와 작품 속 인물의 섬세한 감정선을 담아내 대중들과 독자들에게 인기를 끌고 있다. OST는 영화나 드라마에 이어 최신 마케팅 도구로서 웹툰에서도 영향력을 발휘하면서 음원시장의 신흥 강자로 부상했다. 이처럼 웹툰 OST가 떠오르는 시점에서 새로운 장르로서 자리매김 할 수 있게 성공을 위한 방향성제시가 필요하다. 본 연구는 웹툰과 OST로도 성공을 거둔 <취향저격 그녀> 를 대상으로 두 분야의 결합 방식에 대한 효과가 어떠한 연동구조를 통해 대중성을 확장시켰는지 분석하고자 한다. <취향저격 그녀>의 대중성을 확장시킨 스토리 재미, 캐릭터성, 독자와의 공감 형성 요소를 살펴보고, 기존 웹툰과 OST 흥행요소의 상관관계 분석을 위해 관련 선행연구, 연구보고서, 단행본 등을 분석하였다. 이에 도출한 요소들의 결과를 바탕으로 <취향저격 그녀> 의 웹툰과 발매된 OST가 어떻게 대중성을 확장시켜 나갔는지에 대한 연동구조를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 첫째 <취향저격 그녀>는 긴장의 축적과 극적인 해소과정을 통해 다양한 감정을 느끼게 하는 소재들이 끊임없이 반복되면서 독자들에게 재미를 제공한다. 둘째, 명확한 캐릭터성과 ‘취향’이라는 주제에 성장을 가미시켜 스토리의 완성도를 높였으며, 주제의 틀 안에서 다양한 패션의그림체는 시각적 재미를 충족시켰다. 셋째, 시즌 2에서 극적인 상황과 반전을가장 많이 발생시켜 독자들의 궁금증을 확보하고 시즌 2가 끝난 휴재기간에스토리를 담아낸 가사와 OST에 참여한 인기 가수의 스타파워가 융합되면서웹툰 OST 시장 영역을 확장시켜 나갔다. 끝으로 웹툰과 OST의 결합 성장에필요한 방향성을 제시하였다.

소매틱 즉흥무용 프로그램 개발을 위한 설계기반연구

The objective of this research is to provide efficient and systematic courses by developing and utilizing a somatic improvisation dance program as the design-based research, and studying the significant changes in the body awareness abilities of not only professional dancers but also of professional actors and non-professionals upon application. The study was conducted from Feb. 24 to Apr. 2, 2018 with a total number of 30 participants. In terms of the research tool, questionnaires on body awareness abilities were utilized before (pre-practice) and after (post-practice) participating in the program, which was then analyzed through one-way ANOVA and paired-samples t-test. Inductive analysis was conducted after the data on the participant's in-depth interview and diary, and the researcher's observation diary was compiled and the veracity of the data was secured through trigonometric verification. The findings of this research is as follows: Regarding body awareness, post-practice was higher in terms than pre-practice. Thus these findings exhibit the fact that such program can be utilized as the basic material for professors and students in improvisation dance classes 'for everyone' as well as be effectively adopted in all dance fields. 이 연구의 목적은 소매틱 즉흥무용 프로그램 개발을 위한 설계기반연구로 전문무용수 뿐아니라 전문배우, 비전문가에게 적용한 후 신체자각능력 요인에 미치는 변화를 연구하여 체계적이고 효율적인 수업을 제공하는데 있다. 연구 참여자는 서울시 소재의 K무용단 전문무용수, K극단의 전문배우, 비전문가 세 집단으로 나누어 총 30명이 2018년 2월 24일부터 4월 2일까지 실습에 참여하였다. 연구도구는 신체자각능력의 질문지를 사전, 사후 사용하여 일원변량분석(One-way ANOVA)과 대응표본 t검증(Paired-samples t-test)을 통해 분석하였다. 그리고 참여자와의 심층면담과 참여일지, 연구자의 관찰일지 자료를 수집하여 귀납적 분석을 실시하였고, 삼각검증에 의해 자료의 진실성을 확보하였다. 이 연구의결과 신체자각능력의 신체관심, 신체유능성, 내적자각, 체형지각의 사후가 사전보다 높게나타났다. 따라서 이 연구는 소매틱 즉흥무용 프로그램 개발을 통해 연구 참여자의 신체자각능력이 향상되었다는 점에서 ‘모두를 위한’ 즉흥무용교육의 교수-학습 기초자료로 활용할 수있으며, 학교와 학원을 포함한 모든 움직임 교육현장에서 효율적으로 적용 가능하다는 것을 시사해준다.

Scaling and Multiscaling Properties in the Korean Stock Market

We consider the scaling and the multiscaling behaviors of the Korean stock-market index. We consider the return and the absolute return of Korean composite stock price index (KOSPI). We observed scaling behaviors in the tail parts of the probability distribution of the return and in the autocorrelation function of the absolute return. At early time, the autocorrelation function of the return decays exponentially with a characteristic time of 5.9 min. However, the absolute return reveals a long-range correlation. The generalized q-th order height-height correlation functions show multiscaling properties. There are two scaling regions, with a crossover time of tc = 40 min. The multiscaling in the long-time region appears to be due to intrinsic trading properties of the stock market.B

Java DOM Parsers to Convert KGML into SBML and BioPAX Common Exchange Formats

Integrating various pathway data collections to create new biological knowledge is a challenge, for which novel computational tools play a key role. For this purpose, we developed the Java-based conversion modules KGML2SBML and KGML2BioPAX to translate KGML (KEGG Markup Language) into a couple of common data exchange formats: SBML (Systems Biology Markup Language) and BioPAX (Biological Pathway Exchange). We hope that our work will be beneficial for other Java developers when they extend their bioinformatics system into SBML- or BioPAX-aware analysis tools. This is part of our ongoing effort to develop an ultimate KEGG-based pathway enrichment analysis system.

코로나19 시기 학교 밖 청소년의 경험에 관한 질적 연구

This study aims to provide basic data to strengthen social support from the perspective of out-of-school adolescents by reinterpreting their experiences on changes in their lives and what such changes mean in the COVID-19 crisis. This study analyzed the data through in-depth interviews with seven out-of-school adolescents. The transcripts were classified into 210 semantic units, and components were derived from 15 subject words and 4 subjects through the process of grouping and re-classifying the same semantic units. The topics revealed as a result of the study were "Corona gives an opportunity to grow stably," "An opportunity to restore family relationships," "It is hard to endure many changes in life," and "Corona makes it worse to lag behind others." Based on this, the internal maturity of out-of-school adolescents was suggested as practical implications for strengthening programs, strengthening family functions, creating business manuals for out-of-school adolescents and revitalizing non-face-to-face programs. 본 연구는 코로나 위기 상황에서 학교 밖 청소년이 삶의 변화와 그런 변화가 어떤 의미를 가지는지 그들의 입장에서 경험을 재해석하여 학교 밖 청소년의 관점에서 사회적 지원을 강화하는 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 본 연구는 7명의 학교 밖 청소년과의 심층적인 면담을 통하여 자료를 분석하였다. 녹취록을 의미 단위 210개로 분류하였고, 동일한 의미 단위를 묶고 재분류하는 과정을 거쳐 15개의 주제어와 4개의 주제로 구성요소를 도출하였다. 연구결과 드러난 주제는 ‘코로나이지만 오히려 성장하는 기회가 됨’, ‘가족관계가 회복되는 기회가 만들어짐’, ‘일상생활의 많은 변화로 견디기 힘듬’, ‘코로나로 남보다 뒤처지는 것이 심해짐’이었다. 이를 토대로 학교 밖 청소년의 내적 성숙을 위한 프로그램 지원, 가족기능 강화, 학교 밖 청소년을 위한 위기대응 매뉴얼 제작, 비대면 프로그램 활성화를 실천적 함의로 제언하였다.
