The purposes of the study is to estimate reporting proportion of National Notifiable Infectious Diseases(NNIDs) and investigate characteristics related to reporting using KAP(knowledge, attitude, practice) model. Method: We surveyed randomly selected 2,185 physicians (speciality: internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, general physicians) of their knowledge, attitude, and practice of NNIDs reporting through self-administered mail questionnaires. Of them, 231 physicians responded (response proportion: 10.6%). Result: The reporting proportion was estimated to 27.0%. Recognition level (knowledge) of NNIDs was relatively high with proportion of 69.40/0, and attitude (public health importance) of reporting was 65.8%. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that knowledge, attitude significantly affected physicians" reporting in a positive direction (O.R. 6.2, 6.2 respectively). Whereas, senior age group, specialty (family medicine, pediatrics, dermatology) showed significantly lower reporting. General (tertiary care) hospital level of care showed significantly higher reporting practice (α=0.05). Conclusion: The NNIDs reporting proportion, 27.0% is similar with those studied recently. Continuous efforts to increase the performance level of communicable diseases surveillance system. Of those, restructuring surveillance systems considering characteristics of notifiable diseases classes must be stressed. Educational approach of physicians needs to be tailored specially to newly-designated diseases such as Group Ⅱ, Designated Group NNIDs.

The influence of gamma irradiation with low doses (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 kGy) on the meat quality of chicken breast was determined for 6 days of storage at $4^{\circ}C$. The pH of irradiated chicken was lower than that of the control at day 1 (p<0.05), while no difference was found among irradiation at different doses. Drip loss was higher in irradiated chicken with doses of 0.5 and 1.0 kGy compared to the control at day 1 and day 3 (p<0.05). Lightness (L) at day 1 and day 6 was increased due to irradiation (p<0.05). Redness (a) increased with irradiation doses of 1.0 and 1.5 kGy at day 1 and day 3 (p<0.05). However, no significant differences were found in yellowness (b). The number of aerobic plate count of irradiated chicken during storage was significantly lower than the control (p<0.05). E. coli and coliforms were not detected after irradiation at any dose. Also, irradiation doses of 1.0 and 1.5 kGy significantly reduced volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values compared to the control during storage (p<0.05). These results suggest that low dose gamma irradiation can be useful to extend the shelf life of chicken breast during cold storage.

Background : The hospitals of modern society, like any other business entities, have to constantly strive to secure their survival from aggressive changes and competition outside. In this unstable environment, effective leadership is one of the most effective strategies for securing organization’s growth was well as stability. This study investigated types of leadership(transformational or transactional)that is dominant in medical record departments and compared it’s effects on organizational commitment and job satisfaction of their organizational members by types. Methods : A questionnaire was developed and mailed to all medical administrators working at general hospitals throughout the country expect department directors(N=450). Of these, 150 useable questionnaires were returned and analyzed by t0test, multiple regression analysis using SPSS. Results : The organizational commitment and job satisfaction were a little bit higher than ,moderate level, and that of leadership perceived by medical record administrators was also in moderate level throughout types. Significant characteristics(positively)related to organizational commitment and job satisfaction by univariate analysis were marital(married), position(middle management)and both type of leadership styles after considering all the factors related to organizational commitment and job satisfaction together by multivariate analysis. Conclusion : The average organizational commitment and job satisfaction of medical record administrators was just in moderate level. Efforts should be made to increase them by improving leadership capacity of medical record directors, primarily by using transformational leadership approach.
