Carotid artery angioplasty and stenting (CAS) has become increasingly accepted as an alternative therapy to carotid endarterectomy for treatment of carotid artery stenosis. Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is one of the diseases presented due to carotid artery stenosis. But CRAO without cerebral ischemia after CAS is uncommon. An 80-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with the right centrum ovale ischemic stroke and right proximal carotid artery stenosis. We performed CAS with a distal protection device after pre-ballooning 3 times, without post-ballooning. Then, 12 hours after the CAS, the patient complained of blindness in the right eye and was diagnosed with CRAO. However, Diffusion weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI)showed no significant findings in the brain. CRAO after CAS without intracranial infarction is a rare complication.

Background: Iguratimod is a new type of disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug, which reduced the production of inflammatory cytokines. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pharmacokinetic characteristics and safety profiles of iguratimod after a single oral administration in healthy Korean volunteers. Methods: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group, single oral dose study was conducted in 24 healthy male volunteers. Three groups of eight subjects each received 25 mg, 50 mg, or 100 mg dosage, respectively. Two subjects in each dose group were administered matching placebo. Plasma concentrations of iguratimod were measured till 72 hours after drug administration. Tolerability was evaluated by monitoring adverse events, clinical laboratory tests, and 12-lead electrocardiograms. Results: The mean area under the concentration-time curve from 0 to 72 hours (AUClast) were 11.9, 25.2, and 51.8 mg × h/L and the maximum plasma concentration (Cmax) were 1.15, 2.33, and 4.78 mg/L in 25, 50 and 100 mg dose groups, respectively. All doses of iguratimod were well tolerated without serious adverse events or clinically meaningful changes. Conclusion: Cmax and AUClast values of iguratimod proportionally increased with incremental dose. Iguratimod was generally safe and well tolerated.
사천 선진리비석 측천문자의 명문 재해석 - 측천문자의 한반도 전래 및 수용 문제에 대해 -

Since the discovery of the inscriptions engraved with the "Chinese characters of Empress Wu(則天文字)" at 251 and 256-1, Seonjin-ri, Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do in 2003, researchers from the Gyeongnam Institute of Cultural Properties, Kwak Seung-Hoon, and Kim Chang-Gyeom have attempted to read and interpret the inscriptions. However, there are still different theories as to the origin of the "Chinese characters of Empress Wu" appearing in the inscriptions and the use of Idu(吏讀)-type notation. This study aims to clarify, this inscription was erected by the king of Silla in the late 7th and mid-8th centuries to commemorate his participation in the Sacheon and Jinju patrols and Buddhist activities, and it is revealed that the main character of the inscription is likely to be King Seongdeok who has visited southern countries. In addition, in the case of "上了言", which has been interpreted as a human name, it should be understood as an Idu-type notation or a 變體漢文 because of the use of the proposition 了, and it should be interpreted as a character that means the end of a specific act. Although it is not a religious text like 『Mugujeonggwangdaedaranigyeong (The Great Dharani Sutra)』, the reason why the "Chinese characters of Empress Wu(則天文字)" was used is that in the process of accepting the Huayan school, the royal family of Silla came into contact with the Buddhist scriptures of the period of the Empress Wu, which is closely related to the rise of the Huayan school in the Middle Ages, and it appears to have learned and used in this process.
수소수 음용이 운동에 의해 생성된 생체 내 ROS 제거 효능에 미치는 영향

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate whether hydrogen (H2) water drinking reduced oxidative damage products [8-hydroxy- 2-deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dG), malondialdehyde (MDA), L-lactate] produced in blood after exercise-induced oxidative stress. METHODS: Men (n=7) and women (n=8) [systolic blood pressure (BP): 90-150 mmHg, diastolic BP: 60-100 mmHg] were recruited. Exercise was performed for 20 minutes (8 km/hr) using treadmill. Placebo or test group drunk water and hydrogen water (1.2-1.5 ppm, 1,000 mL), respectively, right after exercise. Three days after, the same experiment was performed in the cross-over manner. Blood samples were obtained 30 minutes before exercise, right after exercise, and 30, 60, 120 minutes after exercise. 8-oxo-dG, MDA and L-lactate in serum were determined using ELISA kit. RESULTS: The blood levels of 8-oxo-dG were significantly increased after exercise (from 381±9.4 to 524±14.9 ng/mL for male; from 367±13.5 to 509±10.7 ng/mL for female). In the placebo group, the increased 8-oxo-dG at each time was not significantly different from the peak level induced by the exercise except that at 120 minutes in female. In the test group, its levels at each time were significantly lower than that in the peak level. The effect of hydrogen water was more pronounced in female than in male. The results obtained with MDA were quite similar to those with 8-oxo-dG. The L-lactate levels were not significant statistically in both groups. CONCLUSIONS: The data suggest that the one time drinking of hydrogen water may suppress the exercise-induced oxidative stress.
