We have developed an obstacle detection method using two cameras arranged vertically inside a vehicle. One camera is installed horizontally toward the front of a vehicle while another camera is installed, tilted toward the road surface, at a position which is higher than the first camera. From each image obtained from the two cameras, the farthest obstacle distance from the vehicle is calculated, and their calculated distance values are compared. If there exists a substantial difference in distance values, an obstacle is assumed to exist protruding from the road surface, otherwise no obstacle exists. The method is in use satisfactorily for adapted cruise control(ACC) purpose of a fully autonomous vehicle.

본 논문은 안전한 차선 변경을 위하여 측후방에서 접근하는 차량을 컴퓨터비전 알고리즘으로 탐지하여 운전자에게 알려주는 차선변경보조시스템에 대해 설명한다. 제안 시스템은 운전자가 차선변경을 시도하려 하면 영상처리를 통하여 측후방 차량의 유무 및 움직임을 추적하여 차선 변경 가능 여부를 판단하여 운전자에게 알린다. 차선을 탐지 후 이를 기반으로 ROI(Region of Interest)을 설정하고, 이 영역내에서 광류 흐름 기법을 이용하여 접근하는 차량을 탐지한다. 제안된 알고리즘 및 시스템 검증을 위하여 실제 도로의 주행 영상을 사용하여 시험한 결과 91%의 차량 인식률을 보였고, 향후 상용화될 차선변경보조시스템에 적용 가능할 것이다. This paper describes a lane change assistance system for the help of safe lane change, which detects vehicles approaching from the rear side by using a computer vision algorithm and notifies the possibility of safe lane change to a driver. In case a driver tries to lane change, the proposed system can detect vehicles and keep track of them. After detecting side lane lines, region of interest for vehicle detection is decided. For detection a vehicle, optical flow technique is applied. The experimental result of the proposed algorithm and system showed that the vehicle detection rate was 91% and the embedded system would have application to a lane change assistance system being commercialized in the near future.

This paper aims to investigate the academic contribution of professor Kyung Hi Hong to the development of the Korean urban geography through her extensive studies. By investigation her studies it turned out that her studies were the earliest and the largest in their number in the early stage of urban geography. In particular, her articles were proved to be outstanding in the five parts of urban geography such as the study of the location, distribution and size of the city, urbanization, urban function, urban residential pattern, and central place except the studies of the urban system.

Platinum particles with mean particle size from 0.8 to 1.8㎚ were loaded on carbon black supports by either impregnation or colloidal method. In order to change particle size and intercrystallite distance of platinum, the surface area of carbon was varied and the prepared Pt/carbon catalysts were treated at 800℃ in helium atmosphere. An half-cell test was conducted with Teflon-bonded Pt/C electrodes in order to investigate the oxygen reduction current density in 100% H₃PO₄ at 190℃ Catalytic activity was strongly dependent on the platinum particle size; the maximum in mass activity was observed at about 3㎚ and the specific activity increased with increase in particle size. The effect of intercrystallite distance on the activity was mainly contributed from the effect of platinum particle size. It was possible to obtain the oxygen reduction current density of 270㎃ per ㎠ electrode at cathode potential of 0.7 V/RHE.

This paper describes a remote control system which is used the WiBro for an autonomous vehicle. A communication between the autonomous vehicle and a remote control center is possible with the WiBro. The autonomous vehicle sends the road image which it acquires from the camera to the remote control center through the WiBro. The control center sees the road image and controls the model wheel that is connected with a RS232 communication in the PC of the remote control center. Then it returns the steering angle of the wheel to the autonomous vehicle through the WiBro. The autonomous vehicle sends the steering angle to the wheel controller and then moves the wheel as much as received steering angle. This research solved the communication distance problem that has been indicated as a limitation in the vehicle communication environment. This system controls the autonomous vehicle which is located long distance from the remote control center by the method which is proposed. Also using the feature of the WiBro that is based on IP network, a voice communication function added to the communication system. With this voice communication function, the autonomous vehicle system can request the controlling of the autonomous vehicle's driving or send the problem of the driving situation to the remote control center. So it could be possible to raise the reliability of the vehicle's driving.
