Adsorption characteristics of CO and CO₂ gases for a fixed-bed adsorber filled with 37 wt% CuCl-impregnated activated carbon were measured. We found that the amount of equilibrium adsorption of CO₂ is less than that of CO on the adsorbent. Accordingly, the breakthrough point of CO₂ was reached earlier than the case of CO. As a result, we concluded that the adsorbent prepared in this work can possibly be used to selectively separate CO from the mixture of CO and CO₂ gases. Also, the experiment showed that the behavior of breakthroughs mainly depend on bed temperature and gas flowrate rather than the concentration of component to be adsorbed. Finally, a method that can calculate adsorption characteristics of the bed was proposed based on the theory of FH-VSM equilibrium isotherm. The calculated adsorption behaviors agree well with the experiment.

Twelve patients with large angle congenital-infantile esotropia averaging 71 prism diopters under-went 7-mm bilateral medial rectus recessions by the fornix approach. Successful horizontal alignment with the initial procedure when measured at the most postoperatively was achieved in 11 patients (92%). One patient(8%) was undercorrected and none was overcorrected. The advantages of the method, as compared to three or four muscle procedures, are that it is quicker, simpler, and a less traumatic procedure which leaves the lateral rectus nuscle an unoperated for future surgeries if necessary. This is effective even in very large angle congenital-infantile esotropia.

A new device, muscle clamping system was developed to facilitate exact quatifying technique A strabismus surgery, and reduce the risk of complications. The device is composed of a lower fixing body with three jaws and an upper supporting body. They are used to clip an extraocular muscle and fix it to the sclera with a single bite. Superior rectus recession on 16 rabbit eyes were performed with this new device. Conjunctival injection, muscle adhesion strength, and light microscopic findings were examined at 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks postoperatively. The Conjunctival injection were minimal, adhesion power ranged from 420 to 600 gram gravity, which is sufficient in withstand the normal pull of human extraocular muscle. In microscopic exam, some Inflammatory cells and fibrosis were found. The new device was technically easy, fast, and accurate, so it may be useful in stabismus surgery.
성장중인 흰쥐 두개관에서 HPLC에 의한 세포내 Purine 대사산물 함량에 관한 연구

The present experiment was performed to investigate the contents of metabolites involved in the purine catabolic pathways in developing rat calvaria. The portions of calvarias containing frontal and parietal bones was separated from 19-day-old rat foetuses. Specimens were assayed for their contents of intracellular purine metabolites by high performance liquid chromatography in the acid extract of the tissues with rapid quenching. The content of inosine was the highest in the purine nucleosides and bases. The content of adenosine was higher than that of guanosine, but xanthosine was not detected in the tissues. The contents of hypoxanthine and guanine were relatively high, but adenine and xanthine were not detected. These results implied that the major purine metabolites in developing rat calvaria were inosine, hypoxanthine and guanine.
