In order to improve the efficiency, the CFD-based design system is applied to the Francis turbine replacement project with Korea Fluid Machinery Association (below KFMA) and K-water. The inversed design technique and the fully turbulent 3-dimensional flow simulations are performed in the previous study. In this study, the runner is newly manufactured from the reversed engineering and CFD's results. By Manufacturing method, the precision wood pattern, casting, a number of the surface blasting as like the buffering and a balancing technique is selected Furthermore, The turbine with newly runner is respectively experimented with the output in accordance with IEC60041 code. The performances of the new design are verified by the approved test and the guarantees have all been successfully met. From the experiment results, the efficiency of the newly turbine, 87.5% is more enhanced than the efficiency of the old model for the 500kW. The perfect combination of the CFD analysis has finally resulted in a new model which can provide about a 10% increase in peak efficiency.

An extensive range of pumping facilities are employed in the regional water supply system in metropolitan areas, and optimization and the systematic combination of the pump facilities have direct bearing on the stability and economy of the water supply system concerned. These systems must be able to guarantee stability, efficiency and offer high reliability. Preparation of metropolitan area regional water supply system construction project must include a basic plan which takes into account the suitability of pumping facilities to be used, the environment in which facilities will be installed, man-power requirements and basic operational and management policies. This paper contains over-all analysis of the management of metropolitan area regional water supply systems and highlights the cause of inefficiency and energy waste and puts forward a remedial plan of action. In addition, pump/motor specification programs were developed using Visual Basic to assist selection of the same.
선천성 심장질환에 대한 Fontan 순환의 유체역학적 분석

In 1971 Fontan and Baudet reported on a palliative operation in patients with tricuspid atresia. The new idea was to direct venous blood flow into the pulmonary arteries without a pumping chamber in between. While there were many modification developed after initial suggestion and they made a advance for survival benefit. However, the complete pulmonary flow were not restored, and several complications, such as arrhythmia, pulmonary vascular insufficiency, abnormalities in hepatic function, and coagulopathy were still not resolved. We hypothesized that these complications were driven mainly by the deficit of driving force according as right heart bypass. It reported that there were no typical pulmonary blood flow patterns of cardiac origin in patients with Fontan circulation, except for slight late diastolic flow acceleration representing diastolic inflow. The aim of this study is to assess pulmonary blood flow patterns after Fontan surgery by using computational fluid dynamics analysis. It found that the flows from SVC and IVC were not well mixed in all 4 different phases, and IVC flows were not well advanced to pulmonary artery during inspiration. This phenomenon was remarkable especially during inspiration phase in upright position. Conclusively, it might be suggested that Fontan circulation is needed by a pumping structure for mixing blood from SVC and IVC and IVC blood flow advance.

From the previous study, it found that hemodynamics were correlated with stenosis in coronary artery. The flow characteristics and distributions of the hemodynamic wall parameters in the coronary artery are investigated under physiological flow condition. The present study is also aimed to establish the mechanism of the generation of atherosclerosis by analyzing the hemodynamic variables in the coronary artery where atherosclerosis frequently occured. The stenosis phenomena due to atherosclerosis are related to not only biochemical reaction between blood and blood vessel but also the hemodynamic factors like flow separation and oscillatory wall shear stress.

The purpose of the present study was to establish the mechanism of the generation of<br/> atherosclerosis by analyzing the hemodynamic variables in the coronary artery where atherosclerosis<br/> occurs frequently. From the previous results, the stenosis phenomena due to atherosclerosis were related<br/> to not only biochemical reaction between blood and blood vessel but also the hemodynamic factors like<br/> flow separation and oscillatory wall shear stress. The present study aimed to investigate the causes of<br/> the generation and progression of atherosclerosis in the coronary artery. This study also aimed to<br/> develop the softwares which generate automatically three dimensional vascular models obtained by the<br/> angiogram images and the computer vision techniques. In the present study, the flow patterns for full<br/> three-dimensional hemodynamic characteristics were analyzed. To understand the three-dimensional<br/> hemodynamic characteristics, the wall shear stress distributions and secondary flows were investigated<br/> quantitatively.
광역상수도용 펌프의 최적결정을 위한 펌프 / 모터 선정 프로그램 개발

The Pump/Motor Selection Program for optimized selection of regional water supply facilities was developed based on a flowchart compiled from basic operational data, total head requirement, initial pump/motor specification selection etc. This program was developed in Visual Basic. The program accepts, as in the flowchart, operational requirements of pumps and other system requirements and calculates specific speed based on flow rate, total head and rpm Then the calculated specific speed is used to select pump types and rpm prior to determining likelihood of cavitation occurring at the calculated NPSH. Power requirement is then calculated for safe operation of pump to assist final pump selection. Test results of the program matches very closely to the design values of Paldang intake pump station(3rd stage) proving that the program can be used as an effective and practical aid for designing new regional water supply systems.
효율적인 유압 실험실습교육을 위한 비주얼 유압 시스템 개발

Current educational hydraulic oil systems consist of the composites for the hydraulic circuits. These systems not only could attract students' interests, but also increase the teaching efficiency during the lectures. Thus, the visual hydraulic oil system has been developed to enhance educational efficiency and to improve learning methods. With this new system, the students can easily examine the oil flow for hydraulic oil parts in mechanical engineering experiments. In order to develop the new system, the hydraulic constitute was made of acryl resin, and previous pipes were replaced by transparent and flexible tubes. Red colored oil was also used to visualize the oil flow. Furthermore, if OHP (Over Head Projector) was used for a theoretical lectures, the visual units can be used to classify the differences of the valve structure or the circuits. If lecturers use the developed visual hydraulic system, students can make an effective experiment on the basic theories and principles. Therefore, we can promote the students' interests and materialize the objectives of the subject. The results of this paper can be widely used to improve the efficiency of the mechanical engineering education. 기존의 유압실험장치는 단순히 유압회로도만을 구성하도록 되어 있기 때문에 수업시 학생들의 흥미를 유발시키지 못하면서 강의 효과를 떨어뜨리고 있는 실정이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 기계공학실험중 유압실험에 관한 공학교육의 효과를 높이기 위해 학생들이 눈으로 쉽게 유동을 파악할 수 있는 유압시스템을 개발하였다. 이를 위하여 유압구성품은 아크릴로 정밀가공을 하여 투명성을 유지시켜 주었고, 기존의 불투명한 관은 투명하면서 유연한 관으로 교체하였다. 유체의 흐름을 눈으로 확인할 수 있도록 적색의 오일을 사용하였다. 더 나아가 제작된 유압장치를 이용하여 이론수업시 OHP와 함께 사용한다면 밸브의 구조를 명확히 이해할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. 개발된 비주얼 유압 시스템을 이용한다면 유압 분야의 기본 이론이나 원리를 쉽게 이해시킬 수 있어 학생들의 학습증진에 기여할 수 있고 교과목의 목적을 충분히 구현할 수 있어 그 교육 효과가 매우 클 것으로 기대된다.
