        Seneca Stress

        이 논문에서 주장하고자 하는 것은 두 가지 이다. 첫째, Kager (1993)가 음절을 세어 약강격 음보를 형성하는 언어의 하나로 분류한 세네카 (Seneca)어가 음절의 무게에 따라 강세를 강약격으로 주는 언어임을 보이는 것이다. 둘째, 세네카어가 음절을 세는 약강 음보 언어가 아니면, 결과적으로 Kager의 음보 목록에서 음절을 세는 약강 음보의 설정 근거가 약하다는 주장이다. 왜냐 하면 약강 음보를 갖는 언어는 세 개의 언어뿐이고, 그 중 이딘 (Yidin)어는 김효영(1999)에 의하면 강약격 음보로 분석이 더 용이하고, 애로캐니언 (Araucanian)어는 4 쪽 짜리 논문의 반 쪽 만이 강세를 다루는 등 자료가 불충분하기 때문이다.

        Self-noise from the rotor blade of the UH-1H Helicopter is obtained numerically by using the Brooks' empirical noise model. All of the five noise sources are compared with each other in frequency domain. From the calculated results the bluntness noise reveals dominant noise sources at small angel of attack, whereas the separation noise shows main noise term with gradually increasing angel of attack. From the results of two different tip Mach numbers with the change of angel of attack, the OASPLs at M = 0.8 show about 15dB larger than those at M = 0.4.

        영어명사 강세와 모음

        The purpose of this paper is to see whether we can prove true the claim that lowness of vowels attracts stress in English. Previous research, which focused on English nouns with three syllables, showed that vowel quality as well as vowel quantity is closely related to stress location. Especially, lowness of vowels is reported to be connected to stress. In line with this research, this study examines all English nouns with one, two, four and five syllables from the database CELEX. The results demonstrate that in stressed syllables, [-high] vowels, especially [æ, ɑ], are found more frequently than the other vowels, and that these vowels are not found at all in unstressed syllables. In contrast, the [+high] vowel [ɪ] appears mainly in stressless syllables, though it appears in stressed syllables as well. However, its number increases in unstressed syllables. These findings are not surprising considering the nature of stress and the phonetic characteristics of [-high] vowels.

        Prediction of Genes Related to Positive Selection Using Whole-Genome Resequencing in Three Commercial Pig Breeds

        Selective sweep can cause genetic differentiation across populations, which allows for the identification of possible causative regions/genes underlying important traits. The pig has experienced a long history of allele frequency changes through artificial selection in the domestication process. We obtained an average of 329,482,871 sequence reads for 24 pigs from three pig breeds: Yorkshire (n = 5), Landrace (n = 13), and Duroc (n = 6). An average read depth of 11.7 was obtained using whole-genome resequencing on an Illumina HiSeq2000 platform. In this study, cross-population extended haplotype homozygosity and cross-population composite likelihood ratio tests were implemented to detect genes experiencing positive selection for the genome-wide resequencing data generated from three commercial pig breeds. In our results, 26, 7, and 14 genes from Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc, respectively were detected by two kinds of statistical tests. Significant evidence for positive selection was identified on genes ST6GALNAC2 and EPHX1 in Yorkshire, PARK2 in Landrace, and BMP6, SLA-DQA1, and PRKG1 in Duroc.These genes are reportedly relevant to lactation, reproduction, meat quality, and growth traits. To understand how these single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related positive selection affect protein function, we analyzed the effect of non-synonymous SNPs. Three SNPs (rs324509622, rs80931851, and rs80937718) in the SLA-DQA1 gene were significant in the enrichment tests, indicating strong evidence for positive selection in Duroc. Our analyses identified genes under positive selection for lactation, reproduction, and meat-quality and growth traits in Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc, respectively.

        Vowel Quality and Geminates in English

This paper attempts to find supporting evidence for Rice’s (1996) and many others’ argument that the low vowels, [æ] and [ɑ], as in banana and teriyaki, are heavier enough to attract stress than non‐low vowels, and thus they are less likely to be followed by a geminate consonant even when they occur in penultimate stressed syllable than the other singleton vowels in English. To find whether the claims are backed up, I examined words with three and four syllables from the CELEX (Baayen, Piepenbrock and Gulikers 1995). The results of examination show that judging exclusively from the consonant doubling in tri‐and quadric syllabic words, the high vowel [ɪ] rather than low vowels seems to be heavier than the others since it can easily get stressed in the light penultimate syllable even without consonant doubling. These findings are somewhat contradictory to previous claims; [ɪ] is a high vowel; both phonological and phonetic phenomena have suggested that low vowels would be heavier or have more moras than non low vowels.         국산 아카시아꿀과 수벌번데기를 이용한 고추장의 이화학적 및 관능적 특성 분석

        The present study investigated the physicochemical and electronic tongue characteristics of Gochujang prepared with beekeeping product. Five Gochujang samples were prepared with different ration of domestic acacia honey (AH) and freeze-dried drone pupae powder (DP) (AH 0%, DP 0%; AHDP-1, AH 10%, DP 0%; AHDP-2, AH 10%, DP 1%; AHDP-3, AH 10%, DP 2%; AHDP-4, AH 10%, DP 4%; AHDP-5 to the total materials). The pH of samples were 4.19~4.32, which decreased with increasing aging period. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activities of the AHDP3-5 groups were 39.42%~67.58%, which were approximately 1.5~2.6 times higher than that of the AHDP-2 (25.51%). The 2,2’-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical cation scavenging activities of the AHDP-5 (31.32%) was the highest, followed by AHDP-4 (24.66%), AHDP-3 (15.99%), AHDP-2 (13.99%) and AHDP-1 (9.66%). In electronic tongue analysis, umami (NMS) was high in the AHDP- 5 (6.6), saltiness (CTS) and sourness (AHS) were high in the AHDP-1 (7.4 and 6.9 respectively). These results suggest that the antioxidant activity and sensory properties of Gochujang made with beekeeping products are superior to those of AHDP-1, and thus its will contribute to the development of the beekeeping industry.

        뮤직 비디오의 영어 글쓰기 교육에의 활용

        The purpose of this paper is to suggest a way to get students to engage more actively in writing tasks and thus help them to improve their writing ability. Writing is important in learning L2 because it plays an important role in the internalization of linguistic knowledge learned in the classroom. However, unlike speaking, writing has to be learned as Lenneberg (1967) once noted that writing ability does not develop naturally while speaking ability does. Therefore, language teachers need to provide environment supporting student's learning writing. To this end, teachers should choose topics that reflect students' interest and foster their engagement. It is also necessary to use authentic writing tasks and develop an intrinsic motivation to write. Considering all these essentials in teaching writing, this paper will show music videos make useful materials for teaching writing. Music videos provide visual and auditory stimuli, which are powerful enough to catch and hold students’attention. In addition, it will be shown that using music videos in teaching writing can create a classroom where students have opportunities to use English meaningfully to communicate their own ideas and opinions. In spite of these characteristics of music videos as an excellent aid to teaching, they did not get much attention in L2 teaching. Moreover, using them in teaching 'writing' has yet to be reported in L2 research literature. By drawing attention to music videos as a useful material for teaching writing, this paper hopes to contribute to the establishment of a teaching model that nurtures students' writing ability.
