Background : The aim of this study is to determine prognostic factors of breast cancer in Korean patients who underwent curative mastectomy. Methods : Medical records of 181 patients who underwent curative mastectomy were reviewed. Relapse-free survival and overall survival were documented for each patient. Factors influencing survival were analyzed using Cox proportional hazard model. Results : Overall 5-year survival rate was 82.0%, and 8-year survival rate was 74.7%. Multivariate analysis indicated that multiple axillary lymph node involvement (≥4), postmenopausal status, and negative estrogen receptor were independent adverse prognostic factors. The adjusted relative risks of multiple axillary lymph node involvement (≥4), postmenopausal status, and negative estrogen receptor were estimated 2.60 (95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.28-5.30), 2.64 (95% CI: 1.46-4.79), and 2.27 (95% CI: 1.19-4.35), respectively. Conclusion : Multiple axillary lymph node involvement (≥4), postmenopausal status, and negative estrogen receptor were independent adverse prognostic factors in Korean breast cancer patients after curative mastectomy.(Korean J Med 58:446-452, 2000)

Floating sleepers in a ballasted track increase both track deterioration and track irregularities. Consequently, a considerable maintenance work is required and maintenance cycle is shortened due to the floating sleepers. This paper quantifies the degrees of void between the floating sleepers and a ballast bed. In the future, the influence of floating sleepers on the track will be investigated by an analytical method using a dynamic model.
Struvite 결정화를 이용한 혐기성 발효액 중의 질소 및 인의 제거

Removal of nitrogen and phosphorus through crystallization of struvite has gained increasing interest. Struvite, magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate (MgNH_(4)PO_(4)·6H_(2)O), is a white inorganic crystalline mineral. It's crystallization can provide high removal efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater. Experiments were performed to determine the optimum condition for the struvite crystallization in anaerobic fermentation supernatant using synthetic wastewater. MgSO_(4)·7H_(2)O and KH_(2)PO_(4) were used as magnesium and phosphorus was 11 and mole ratio of Mg^(2+) to NH_(4)^(+) to PO_(4)^(3-) was 1.2:1:1.2. It was found that at least 5 minutes' reaction time was required and 10 minutes' reaction time was recommended for efficient nitrogen and phosphorus removal. 84.3% of the ammonia nitrogen and 98.4% of the phosphate were elimi-nated at this conditions.
합성하수를 이용한 금속 막의 정밀여과 특성 및 막 오염 제어

This study was to evaluate the filtration performance of metal membrane with synthetic wastewater and to investigate the effective control of membrane fouling using ozone backwashing. The increase of substrate concentration caused the increase of cake layer resistance and total resistance, however, plugging resistance decreased. Total resistance of metal membrane was mainly attributed to the permeate resistance of cake layer, which was formed by deposited particles from the physico-chemical interactions of solids on membrane surface. Intermittent ozone backwashing was more effective then the air backwashing for fouling reduction. The permeation flux recovery of air backwashing decreased over 50%, however, ozone backwashing decreased less than 10% for 4 hours filtration. This may be ascribed to the degradation of foulants in pore structure by the strong oxidation of ozone and physical exfoliation of cake layer on membrane surface with backwashing.
