영화에서의 내러티브 요소들 중 특히 시각을 통해 관객에게 인지되는 정보는 모든 매체에서 가장 정확하고 설득력 있는 장치로 작용한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 영화에서의 시각적 정보 중 가장 많은 시간동안 표현되어지고 모든 장면의 배경이 되는 배경공간과 내러티브를 연계한 연구는 극히 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문은 배경공간이 관객과의 커뮤니케이션 장치로써 담당하고 있는 내러티브 측면에서의 역할과 비중을 객관적으로 검증하고, 이를 통해 영화 배경 공간의 디자인 요소와 연출 방법론을 정의함으로써 프리프로덕션에서 포스트프로덕션에 이르는 배경 공간연출 프로세스의 이론적 근거를 제시하고자 하였다. 연구방법으로써 참고문헌을 통해 비주얼 내러티브의 역할과 비중을 살펴보고, 문자언어 중심의 내러티브에 대한 비주얼 내러티브의 특성을 세부적으로 고찰하였다. 다음으로 상위적 개념이라 할 수 있는 일반적 개념의 내러티브와 영화 내러티브의 차이점과 영화 내러티브의 구성형식에 관해 살펴보았으며, 영화를 구성하는 요소로써 배경 공간이 담당하는 비중과 배경공간이 담당하는 내러티브를 이론적 관점에서 조명하였다. 본 논문의 텍스트인 <반지의 제왕: 반지 원정대>의 다차원적인 분석을 통해 이론연구를 통해 파악하지 못한 배경 공간에 대한 실제적 디자인 방법론과 내러티브 관점에서의 배경공간의 역할을 규명하고자 하였다. <반지의 제왕: 반지 원정대>의 디자인 과정에 관련된 문헌을 고찰한 결과, 배경공간 연출자들이 반복하여 언급하고 있는 디자인에서의 주안점 중 효과적인 내러티브를 위해 필요한 디자인 키워드는·건축물과 실내공간의 디자인(architectural exterior & interior design)·색채계획(color scheme)·시간의 표현 (expression of time passes)·빛의 표현 (expression of lightings)·분위기 연출 (creating mood & atmosphere)임을 알 수 있었으며, 본 논문에서는 이들 항목들을 실제 배경공간사례에 대입하여 내러티브의 측면에서 고찰하여 보았다. 끝으로 <반지의 제왕: 반지 원정대>에서 내러티브와 연관성을 지닌 12장면을 선정하여 내러티브 측면에서의 기능에 대한 분석을 실시하였으며 그 결과 내러티브 측면에서 영화의 배경공간이 수행하는 역할과 유형을 다음과 같이 구체화하여 제시할 수 있었다.·명시적 공간(demonstrative space)·부연적 공간 (expository space)·암시적 공간(connotational space)·징후적 공간(symptomatic Space) Among the many narrative elements in movies, visual cues are the most accurate and convincing method for audiences to gain information. Despite this fact, research into visual backgrounds, which are on-screen for the longest period of time and are instrumental to all scenes, and how they affect narratives are lacking. As such, this study strived to present theoretical grounds for directing the process of background space from pre-production to post-production by two measures: one is objectively examining the role and importance of background space in the narrative viewpoint, which works as a communication device with audiences; and second is by defining design elements of movie background space and directing methodologies through examination. To this end, the roles and importance of visual narratives through reference literature were examined. In addition, detailed characteristics of visual narratives, especially regarding letter-based narratives were contemplated. Furthermore, the difference between general concept narratives-considered a higher-level concept-and movie narratives was inspected and the composition form of movie narratives was also inspected. These investigations shed light on the importance of background space as an element of movie composition and narrative and suggested that background space leads theoretical viewpoint. Finally, practical design methodologies about background space and the role of background space in the narrative viewpoint were investigated through a multi-dimensional analyses of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring". To date, these items have not yet been grasped through theoretical reviews. From reviewing literature related to the design process of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring", the necessary design keywords for effective narratives among all other emphasis in design which are repetitively mentioned by the background space producers were found to be the following: Architectural Exterior & Interior Design, Color Scheme, Expression of time passes, Expression of Lightings, and Creating mood & Atmosphere. Thus, these items were examined from the narrative viewpoint by applying them to actual background space examples. Finally, the narrative functions of 12 scenes from "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" that correlate to narratives were analyzed. This study arrived at the conclusion that background space plays specific roles in the narrative viewpoint of movies based on the following types of space: demonstrative, expository, connotational, and symptomatic.

Internet of Things(IoT)-devices are now expanding inter-connecting networking technologies to invent healthcare monitoring system especially for assessing physiological conditions of the chronically-ill patients those with cardiovascular diseases. Hence, IoT system is expected to be utilized for home healthcare by dedicating the original usage of IoT devices to collect the biomedical data such as electrocardiogram(ECG) and photoplethysmography(PPG) signal. The aim of this work is to implement health monitoring system by integrating IoT devices with Raspberry-pi components to measure and analyze ECG and the multi-channel PPG signals. The acquired data and fiducial features from our system can be transmitted to mobile devices via wireless networking technology to support the concept of tele-monitoring services based on IoT devices.

In the proto design stage of a new car, the performance of an occupant protection system is often evaluated by CAE instead of the real test. CAE predicts and recommends the appropriate design values hence reducing the number of the real tests. However, the existing researches using CAE in predicting the performances do not consider the uncertainties of parameters, in which inconsistency between the actual test results and CAE exists. In this research, the optimization procedure of a protection system such as airbag and load limiter is suggested for the frontal collision. The DACE modeling known as Kriging interpolation is introduced to obtain the meta model of the system followed by the tabu search method to determine a global optimum. Finally, the distribution of a suggested design is determined through the Monte-Carlo Simulation.
