Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, which is one of the major diseases of red dates, causes severe damages in jujube (Zizyphus jujuba Miller) production in Korea. This study was done to evaluate the inhibition of anthracnose occurrence and pathogen growth by the treatment of environment-friendly materials such as a Bordeaux mixture and loess-sulfur mixture and by defense-response signaling in jujube. The in vitro test of the environmentfriendly materials and signaling molecules that were routinely applied did not exhibit any antifungal activities against the pathogen for jujube anthracnose. The Bordeaux mixture and loess-sulfur mixture at a two-fold concentration showed inhibition zones that were 16.0 and 20.3 mm in diameter, respectively. In the pathogen inoculation test with detached jujube tree leaves, while treatment with the environment-friendly materials diluted by half showed no inhibition of lesion development, they did show inhibition of lesion development when they were routinely applied to the leaves. In detached jujube fruits inoculated with the pathogen, better suppressive effects by the treatment of the environment-friendly materials were seen in the fruits at a young stage rather than in the ripening stage. The in vivo test with jujube trees in pots showed that the treatment of salicylic acid (1 mM) resulted in the best suppressive effects against lesion development. The results suggest that it is possible to manage the incidence of anthracnose by the treatment of environment-friendly materials such as the Bordeaux and loess-sulfur mixtures and signaling chemicals such as ethephon, hydrogen peroxide, methyl jasmonate, and salicylic acid in jujube trees and fruits. Consequently, these findings suggest that environment-friendly materials and defense response signaling molecules could be used as suitable candidates for sustainable agrochemicals to manage anthracnose in jujube production.
약용식물 추출물의 대추나무 탄저병균 균사 생장 및 발병 억제 효과

Anthracnose is one of the serious diseases in jujube leaves and fruits resulting in reduced production and fruit quality in jujube production. The application of synthetic fungicide to control anthracnose induces various side effects to require for the development of new safe biofungicide for sustainable fruit production. In this study, antifungal activities against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and inhibition effect of anthracnose development by ethyl acetate extracts of several medicinal plants were screened to select novel candidates applicable for control of anthracnose in jujube. Among medicinal plants, crude extracts from sweet wormwood and resin of peach trees showed inhibition of mycelial growth against C. gloeosporioides with inhibition zone of 15 mm and 17.7 mm in diameter in in vitro antimicrobial activity test, respectively. There was inhibition in development of anthracnose lesion by 58.3% by sweet wormwood, 64.2% by cockscomb, and 60.1% by resin of peach tree and asian plantain in jujube fruits. There was more effective inhibition activity in development of anthracnose by medicinal plant extracts in young fruits than ripening ones. Extracts of tested medicinal plants showing antifungal activities against pathogen and inhibitory effects on anthracnose development could be used as environment-friendly biofungicides in management of anthracnose in jujube production.

As minimally invasive surgery has been a trend in the medical world, many medical instruments tend to be thinner and smaller and active cannula robot also has been studied for a decade to implement thin and flexible surgical robot. However, in some cases, we need much higher curvature than the one made by using only pre-curved tubes in active cannula robot. We designed and made a prototype of the end-effector which has high-curvature in order to use active cannula robot in narrow space of human body. The developed end-effector, which has finger-like shape, consists of three joints that are constrained in the form of four-bar linkage and the first link is constrained in the inner tube of the active cannula robot. The end-effector is possible to bend from 0 degrees to 180 degrees and it has 3 degrees of freedom including the translational and rotational motions. In this paper, we verified that the finger-like mechanism has ability to guide camera which is installed at the end section of the end-effector in minimally invasive surgery.
