In the modern society various types of transportation mode are utilized among them the subway system is the one of the main transportation mode which more than 7.21 million people ride a day. Because of interests on the indoor air quality (IAQ) of underground public facilities concerns on IAQ of subway system by many people are increasing. There are several approach to improve IAQ of subway station such as installing platform screen door (PSD) frequent tunnel washing-out and etc however there has not been any attempt to improve IAQ of subway cabin inside. Most technologies for removing airborne particulate matters are known to be difficult to adopt on the subway cabin since the problem of maintenance cost. Therefore the ultimate object of this study is a practical development of cabin air cleaning system which can reduce the concentration of airborne particles and harmful gases at the same time. The subway cabin air purifier (SCAP) was developed for removing particulate matters and gases pollutants inside a cabin. The whole system was designed and the roll-filter device was manufactured based on numerical prediction results. It is expected that SCAP could reduce indoor air pollutants in the subway cabin practically and it can be applied to other part of transportation vehicles.

Management of indoor air quality of underground subway station is an important issue. The air handling unit (AHU) installed in the underground subway station is the main facility determining the air quality of station. Especially for removing particulate matters, it is important to operate the appropriate air filter. However, there is no quantitative test method for existing air filter in site. It is rarely known that the collection efficiency of air filter can satisfy the designed criteria or not. In this study, we set the reference method using the mini-volume air sampler inside the AHU to evaluate the collection efficiency of different types of air filters. In addition, we applied the portable instrument based on the light-scattering method to the efficiency test. The method we applied in this study can be used in the evaluation of air filter in site.
도시철도 지하역사 PSD 설치에 따른 배기시스템 개선 연구

도시철도 지하역사에 설치되어 운영중인 승강장 안전문(PSD)은 승객의 추락방지 등 안전사고 예방에 큰 기여를 하고 있지만, 기존 승강장 선로 배기설비의 차단으로 인해, 일부 역사에서 승강장내 환기효율 저하문제를 발생시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 PSD가 설치된 승강장의 기존 급배기 시스템의 환기효율 개선을 위해, 승강장과 대합실로 통하는 계단부 하부공간의 무효한 공간(창고)에 국부적인 하부 배기시스템을 추가하고, 승강장 배기용 덕트를 선로부의 기존 배기시스템에 연결하여 연동함으로써 기존 시스템에 무리 없이 승강장 실내환경을 개선하고자 하였다. 즉, PSD 설치이후 승강장 내부의 전체적인 기류혼합효과와 오염된 실내공기를 효율적으로 배출하기 위한 하부배기 방식을 연구하였다. 이러한 하부배기 방식의 효과를 예측하기 위하여, 서울지하철 2호선 역사를 선정하여 급배기량을 실측하고, 이를 바탕으로 전산수치해석 연구를 수행하여 개선효과를 예측해보았다. 하부 배기시스템의 적용은 승강장 기류의 지체상태 및 환기효율 특성을 나타내는 공기연령 측면에서 약 16.5%의 개선효과가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. Platform screen door (PSD) installed at underground subway station has reduced the safety accident, but it may cause poor air ventilation condition due to the isolated exhaust duct in the subway tunnel area. In this study, the additional ventilation system was suggested, which can be installed at a void space (i.e., storage room under stairs) of platform in order to improve efficiency of air ventilation rate. Exhausted air from platform was directed to underneath of platform and joined with existing ventilation duct of train exhaust system (TES). One subway station in Seoul city was selected to predict the effectiveness of the suggested lower exhaust system by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. The predicted mean age of air was decreased by 16.5% which proves the improvement of air ventilation efficiency when the suggested lower exhaust system was applied.

The guidelines for indoor air quality of public transportations such as subway, train and bus was presented by Korean Ministry of Environment last end of year 2006 based on the great consequence of indoor air quality in daily life. Two main parameters, carbon dioxide (CO₂) and particulate matters smaller than 10 ㎛(PM₁?), were selected as index pollutants for the management of indoor air quality. The former pollutant, CO₂, is regarded as index of ventilation status and the major source of CO₂ in the train or subway is the exhalation of passengers. It is publically perceived that the high CO₂ concentration in a crowded subway will be reduced and ventilated with outdoor air by door-opening taken every 2 or 3 minutes when the train stops each station. However, there has not been any scientific proof and quantitative information on the effect of door-opening on the CO₂ reduction by ventilation with outdoor air. In this study, CO₂ concentration and number of passengers were measured at each station on the 3 lines of Korail metropolitan subway. In order to evaluate the effect of CO₂ reduction by door opening, the theoretical approach using the CO₂ balance equation was performed. By comparing the predicted data with monitoring one, the optimum CO₂ dilution factor was determined. For the first time, it was quantified that about 35% of CO₂ concentration in the subway indoor was removed by the door-opening at each station.
칸막이가 설치된 사무실 공간의 냉방효과에 관한 수치해석적 연구

Numerical simulation using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was performed to calculate the predicted mean vote (PMV) based on velocity and temperature profiles of air in a partitioned office building. The office building (W:14.65 m, D:7.57 m, and H:2.63 m) was divided by partitions of 1.5 m height and shared by 7 office workers. Each person uses a personal computer and printer on a desk. One stand-type air conditioner was installed in the corner of the room and operated at the variable flow rate of 35 ㎥/min. In the case study, we assumed that the initial temperature of the room was 303 K and it was cooled down by operating air-conditioner. The outside temperature was fixed at 303 K and the heat flux through the windows was included in the calculation. Heat sources of personal computers, human bodies, fluorescent lamps, and refrigerator were considered. The temperature and PMV values were also calculated to asses the thermal comfort of each person by operating time of air conditioner. It was found that the thermal comfort could be improved by changing the angle of diffuser grill of air conditioner.

Management of indoor air quality of underground subway station is an important issue since the limited natural ventilation, limited sunshine incoming, and highly moistured atmosphere. The improvement in IAQ of platform is expected because most stations were installed with platform screen door currently, however, the poor air quality in tunnel might be affecting subway cabin indoor. In this study, we developed the air quality assessment model based on computational fluid dynamics. The geometry of air ventilation unit, seat, LCD monitors, and passengers were modeled using commercial software (Design Modeler) and fluid pattern and pollutants trajectories were analyzed by using CFX. We predicted the thermal comfort by predicted mean vote (PMV), distribution of CO2 and PM10 concentration. It is expected that this model can be used for the performance test of air cleaners which are under development.

Air conditioning of subway cabin is achieved by two separate air conditioners installed on the top of the cabin. Cooling air is supplied through the line duct on the ceiling through the whole cabin indoor evenly, and the return air is exhausted to the center area of ceiling. Depending on the indoor air quality, outdoor air is introduced into the cabin. A part of air is pressurized out through the exhaust duct by the positive pressure condition of cabin indoor. However, cabin indoor is not always maintained in a positve pressure by frequent door opening during operation. Therefore, outdoor air can be introduced through exhaust fan and tunnel air, highly polluted by fine particles can cause a indoor air pollution. In this study, we measured air velocity, pressure difference, and particle concentration in order to reveal the inflow of outdoor air. We found that outdoor air was introduced during the subway acceleration by the inertial force of indoor air.

Especially for removing particulate matters it is important to operate the appropriate air filter. In this study we studied particle collection efficiency of axail-flow cyclone for subway AHU. The particle collection efficiencies of axial-flow cyclones with three different outlet shape have been evaluated.
