        済州島の外国人居住者の言語問題

        Korea starts out the government-led “multiculturalism” in 2006, As result, the number of foreigners are getting increasesed in Jeju. And it has become a regional visit for foreigners as the “Free International City”. International marriage and employment, a variety in community, such as foreign nationals who emigrated in the study are also present and increasing. This paper starts with the study of language-use in the foreign resident community of Jeju Island, it is intended to grasp the reality of language use from the interview survey conducted in foreign residents in Jeju. Specifically, to characterize their language use, it was considered language environment and consciousness of language-use associated with it. As a result, it has become a society of foreign resident using and adapting to the Korean language and Korean culture. They had been using Korean language for most of their livelihood conversation. On the other hand, by the increase in foreign tourists, the mother tongue of foreign residents was also seen to be used as a source of communication in Jeju It is suggested that the possibility of above factor "affecting the language environment" exists in current society. Korean language is different, it has its own composition and grammar, also there is individual experiences and ethnic group.

        Cinematographic Joyce: The Appropriation of Gaze in “Two Gallants”

        This essay explores how cinematography in “Two Gallants” helps Joyce better communicate with his readers its theme of human commodification. In this story, male exploitation of woman as a commodity, culminating in her transformation into a prostitute, not only subjects the men to the ruthless world of commerce but also commodifies them as well. Such commodification is conveyed and highlighted by the cinematic form of narrative. While the female body is objectified by Lenehan’s gaze, his and Corley’s bodies are not free from the gaze that controls the whole narrative. In fact, their physical description exposes the fact that they are equally the objects of the camera eye, which Joyce has inserted into the story. By the use of alternating gazes, furthermore, the narrative adds dramatic effects to the climactic ending: when Corley opens his palm in a proud manner, his and his disciple’s subjugation to money have been completed.

        済州語の言語伝達体系 -食文化と母系社会の言語伝達体系に関する研究-

        In 2010, the Jeju dialect was registered as one of the Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger. In this study, the delivery system of the Jeju dialect passed down from mothers to children in connection with the food culture on Jeju Island, identified as matrilineal. The results based on surveys and interviews are as follows: about 80.5% of the residents have enjoyed local dishes, about half of whom can cook these dishes. About 78.7% of them learned how to cook from their mothers or grandmothers on orally. However, with respect to the knowledge and understanding of Jeju dialect in cookware names and expressing the tastes, there was a huge discrepancy with age groups. Younger groups, i.e. teens and those in their 20s, displayed poor understanding of the language in terms of food life and cuisine and the number of words and phrases increased as the age increased. Clearly, Jeju dialect on food culture have hardly been passed down to the younger generations. Lastly, for the preservation of the Jeju dialect, we require various measures including: (1) supporting to families with 3 or more generations, (2) using Jeju dialect in daily lives more, and (3) using cookware names in Jeju dialect in elementary cafeterias.

      • 유아음악감상활동에 대한 교사의 인식과 실제 수준에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 유아음악감상활동에 대한 교사의 인식과 실제수준에 관한 연구를 시행하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 유아음악감상활동에 대한 교사의 인식과 실제수준의 관계를 조사하고자 하였으며 이를 토대로 유아음악감상활동에 대한 교사의 실제 수준에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 총 350명의 유아교사이며 배부된 350부 설문지 중 345부가 회수되었다. 본 연구는 문헌고찰, 전문가협의, 예비시안 작성, 예비조서, 본조사 등의 순서로 진행되었다. 본 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 유아음악감상활동에 대한 교사의 인식과 실제 수준은 다소 높은 상관을 보였으며, 총점 및 하위요인 모두 양의 방향으로 유의한 관련성을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 하위요인별로 자세히 살펴보면 유아음악감상활동 중 환경구성에 대한 교사의 인식이 실제수준에 미치는 영향력이 가장 높았으며 다음으로 내용, 교사역할, 목적, 방법, 계획, 평가에 대한 교사의 인식이 실제수준에 미치는 영향력 순으로 나타났다.

        Teleological Narrative and Silence: Anglo-Irish Perception of History in Elizabeth Bowen’s The Last September

        This essay explores the complicated working of silence in the narrative temporality of Elizabeth Bowen’s The Last September. In particular, this essay argues that the moments of Anglo-Irish silence, despite their attempt to freeze real time and suppress the movement of history, syncopate the novel’s ending – the demise of the Anglo-Irish visualized in the conflagration of the Big Houses. Looking back on the tumultuous period of Ireland in the early 1920s, Bowen writes her novel such that the past-ness of the events is self-evident. She could not free herself from the notion of linear and progressive history, as observed in Bowen’s Court as well as The Last September. The novel is thus designed to move toward the anticipated conflagration of the Big Houses in the ending. Such teleological narrative movement, however, is impeded by silence imposed by the Anglo-Irish whenever they need to articulate their identity and political position. The moments of silence in The Last September are those of Anglo-Irish equivocation and evasion, reflecting their deep-seated anxiety and fear of exposing themselves to the outside world. Wrapped in the illusion created by the Big House and living according to the tempo it generates, the Anglo-Irish have, at their peril, remained blind and deaf to the historical reality outside the Big House. This essay traces such social and psychological deadlock Bowen recorded and especially marked through their silence in The Last September. Only with such acknowledgement, she could restore and preserve their way of life in her art.

        근대 동아시아 민족성 담론과 유학 - 『무사도』와 『중국인의 정신』을 중심으로 -

        동아시아의 민족성 담론은 근대 이후 서세동점의 거센 물결 속에서 형성되었다. 근대 동아시아 지식인들은 당시 서양에 유통되고 있던 동아시아 인식을 자신들의 민족성 담론에 비판적으로 수용하면서도 그 중에 왜곡된 부분을 바로 잡기 위해 노력했다. 그 중 일본의 니토베 니나조(신도호도조(新渡戶稻造),1862-1933)와 중국의 구훙밍(辜鴻銘, 1857-1928)은 각기 영어로 『무사도(Bushido: the soul of Japan, an exposition of Japanese thought, 1900)』와『중국인의 정신(Spirit of the Chinese people, 1915)』을 집필하여서 구사회에 큰 반향을 일으켰디. 19세기 중반 이후부터 중국과 일본 관련 서적들이 서양에 많이 소개되었다. 특히 청일전쟁 이후 일본의 국제적 위상이 급속하게 부상하면서 일본 관련 서적들이 수요와 출판이 한층 증가하였다. 니토베의 『무사도』는 일본인이 쓴 일본관련 저서로서 크게 부각되며 서양의 일본인식에도 큰 영향을 주었다. 한편, 구훙밍은 제1차 세계대전 이후 서양물질문명에 대한 회의와 동양의 도덕문명에 대한 재인식이란 주제의식으로 서구 독자층을 확보하였다. 니토베와 구훙밍은 직접 영문으로 책을 집필하였기 때문에 자국에서보다는 외국에서 더 큰 반향을 일으켰다는 공동점이 있다. 이들은 서구사회에서 오랫동안 생활하면서 서양인들의 동아시아 인식에 대해 잘 알고 있었다. 따라서 서양인들이 이해하기 쉽도록 서양인들의 입장에서 동, 서양 문화를 비교하는 글쓰기 방식으로 각기 일본의 무사도와 중국의 유교를 민족정신의 핵심으로 정의하고 서구와 대비되는 자국의 민족성을 역설하였다. 니토베와 구훙밍 모두 자국의 학문보다는 서양학문에 조예가 있었다. 니토베는 당대 최고의 서양식 교육과 경험을 소유한 인물이었으며, 구훙밍은 말레이시아 화교출신으로 유년기부터 서양교육을 받아왔다. 이로 인해 구훙밍의 경우 심지어 중국 고전(古典)에 대한 이해가 일반 중국 지식인들보다 다소 부족했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 그들은 유학의 중요 개념을 중심으로 각기 민족성을 설명했다. 그렇다면, 그들의 민족성 담론에서 유학에 주목했던 이유와 그 핵심주제는 무엇인가? 그들은 왜 이러한 요소들을 강조하였으며, 그들의 주장은 어떠한 의미가 있는가? 본 연구는 이 두 가지 점에 주목하여 근대 동아시아 지식인들의 민족성 담론과 유학 이해를 검토할 것이다. 東亞地區的民族性論述在近代西方文明的衛擊下形成, 當時東亞地區的知識分子批判接受西方的東亞民族性論述的同時, 試圖糾正西方的偏見興誤解. 其中日本的新渡戶稻造(1862~1933)興中國的辜鴻銘(1857~1928)就用英文撰寫『武士道(bushido: the soul of Japan, an exposition of Japanese thought, 1900)』興『中國人的精神(The Spirit of China, 1914)』引起了西方的反響. 19世紀中期以來, 有關中國興日本的書籍大量介紹於西方, 尤其甲午戰爭之後日本的地位日趨上升, 有關日本書籍的需求急增, 新渡戶稻造『武士道』問世後就廣受西方人士的歡迎, ?影響了西方的日本觀. 辜鴻銘則在第一次世界大戰後西方社會對物質文明的批判興東方道德文明的再認識上引起共鳴, 同樣受到了西方讀者的歡迎. 新渡戶稻造興辜鴻銘兩者都用流暢的英文撰寫, 因此當時該書的國外影響力大於國內的影響力. 他們都長期生活在西方, 較能熟知了解西方的東方認知, 故他們在寫作時就連用西方人的知識和比較東西方文化的寫作策略, 說明了不同於西方的本國獨特的民族性. 新渡戶稻造興辜鴻銘都精通於西方知識. 他們的西方知識甚至勝於他們本國傳統學問. 新渡戶稻造是當時接受最先進的西方式敎育的人物. 而辜鴻銘是馬來西亞華僑, 他自小學接受西方敎育. 因此其傳統學問遠不及其西方學問. ?管如此, 他們以儒家槪念爲中心說明了本國的民族性. 那?, 在他們的民族性론술論述中爲何강도儒家中的?些因素? 他們的用意爲何? 本文試圖從這兩方面進行硏究.

        The Reclamation of Body in Beloved

        This paper explores the ways in which reclaiming body is central for former African American slaves to achieve their freedom from the haunting past of slavery in Toni Morrison’s Beloved. The subject of motherhood under slavery Morrison chose, in which mother-child relationship deteriorates into the possessive one of slavery, helps us see how serious and ongoing the problem of slavery is. When slave catchers find Sethe and her children, she attempts to kill all of them as if their bodies were owned by her, a consequence of her unconscious internalization of the slave owner’s logic. Morrison reveals the problem of such internalization through Beloved’s claim of her mother’s body. When she returns in the form of a young woman, Sethe becomes almost enslaved by Beloved and her insatiable demands. Their relationship soon degenerates into violence, testifying that they have not yet escaped out of their slaved past, a past thriving and waiting to overwhelm African American lives like “jungle” at any time. The real escape from the past comes when they acknowledge the necessary separation of their bodies. Only with such acknowledgement, Sethe is able to overcome the trauma of the past experiences and to recover from the fragmented body parts to the whole self.

        Dubliners’ Suppressed Anger: An Intertextual Reading of “Counterparts” and “The Dead”

        This article examines the possibility of reading “The Dead” as a counterpart to “Counterparts,” focusing on anger and reading the return of Michael Furey in “The Dead” as an embodiment of a revived of anger of Joyce’s Dubliners, an anger that is often suppressed in many other characters. The two stories reveal a stark contrast in their articulation of anger: while “Counterpart” shows how Farrington has to suppress his fury until he spots a body weaker than him at home, Gabriel Conroy experiences his re-awakening of an intense anger long forgotten. The fury, though ignited by a romantic rivalry with Michael Furey for Gretta, is not only personal; it is collective in the sense that it comes from the misrecognition of Dubliners who are oblivious of their own marginalization. The sentiment naturally hovers, as does the spirit of Furey, around the whole story. Gabriel’s identification with Furey and even others in the end is significant in this sense; the identification is a sign for recognition of the people’s shared but ignored rage against their underprivileged condition. The final story of Dubliners, while revealing, on the one hand, how rigid the paralyzing effects of their social condition have been, suggests, on the other, the possibility of undoing such effects through the return of the repressed with his fury.
