Stereotactic Radiotherapy by 6MV Linear Accelerator

Eight patients with intracranial tumors or arteriovenous malformation (AVM)s which were less than 3cm in diameter were treated by a technique of stereotactic radiotherapy during the 4 months period from July 1988 through October 1988 at the Division of Radiation Therapy, Kang-Nam St. Mary’s Hospital, Catholic University Medical College. The patients were diagnosed as AVMs in 3 cases, acoustic neurinoma, craniopharyngioma (recurrent), hemangioblastoma, pineocytoma, and pituitary microadenoma in each case. There are several important factors in this procedure, such as localization system, portal, field size, radiation dose, and perioperative supportive care. It is suggested that stereotactic radiotherapy may be performed safely with a radiation dose of 12-30 Gy. So this nonivasive procedure can be used to treat unresectable intracranial tumors or AVMs. Of these, clinical symptoms had been regressed in AVMs in 2 cases at 3 months and 2 months after Stereotactic radiotherapy, one of whom was confirmed slightly regressed on the follow-up angiogram. And also craniopharyngioma and pineocytoma was minimally regressed on 3 month follow-up CT. 정위다방향 단일 고선량 조사는 비침습적으로 두개골에 중추신경계 정위수술기구(Stereotactic frame)를 고정시켜 병소부위를 정확히 조준한 후 작은 조사야들을 통하여 단일고선량을 병소부위에 집중시킴으로써 이를 파괴시키거나 생물학적 효과를 유도하는 것으로 정의되고 있다. 이 방법은 비침습적이며 병소부위를 중심으로 여러 방향으로부터 방사선을 조사하므로서 병소부위에는 고선량을 집중시키고 주위성장 뇌조직에 가는 선량을 최소한으로 줄일 수 있다. 또한 1회에 주는 방사선량은 보편적인 다분할 조사방법에 의한것 보다 동일한 선량을 비교해 볼때 그 생물학적 효과가 3~4배로 높다. 이 방법은 크기가 작고 수술이 불가능한 두개내 심부종양 즉, 뇌하수체 종양, 두개인두관종양, 송과체종양, 수막종, 청신경초종 및 혈관기형 등에 주로 시도하여 왔다. 저자들은 1988년 7월부터 10월까지 6MV 선형가속기를 이용하여 병소가 3cm이하로 작고 수술이 불가능한 두개내 심부뇌종양 5예(청신경초종, 재발성 두개인두관종양, 혈관아세포종, 송과체세포종 및 뇌하수체 소선종, 각각 1예)와 동정맥성 기형 3예에 대해서 정위다방향 단일고선량조사를 시행하였기에 그 방법과 중간성적을 보고하는 바이다.

<P>Having high bending stability and effective gate coupling, the one-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures (ODSNs)-based thin-film partial composite was demonstrated, and its feasibility was confirmed through fabricating the Si NW thin-film partial composite on the poly(4-vinylphenol) (PVP) layer, obtaining uniform and high-performance flexible field-effect transistors (FETs). With the thin-film partial composite optimized by controlling the key steps consisting of the two-dimensional random dispersion on the hydrophilic substrate of ODSNs and the pressure-induced transfer implantation of them into the uncured thin dielectric polymer layer, the multinanowire (NW) FET devices were simply fabricated. As the NW density increases, the on-current of NW FETs increases linearly, implying that uniform NW distribution can be obtained with random directions over the entire region of the substrate despite the simplicity of the drop-casting method. The implantation of NWs by mechanical transfer printing onto the PVP layer enhanced the gate coupling and bending stability. Characteristics of Structure and Expression Pattern of ADSF/resistin Gene in Korean Native Cattle

Adipocyte-specific secretory factor (ADSF)/resistin, a hormone, is a small cysteine-rich protein secreted from adipose tissue and has been implicated in modulating adipogenesis in humans and rodents. The objective of this study was to clone a gene encoding ADSF/resistin and to characterize its function in Korean Native Cattle (Hanwoo). The coding sequence was 330 base pairs and it encoded a protein of 109 amino acids. An NCBI BLAST-search revealed the cloned cDNA fragment shared significant homology (82%) with the cDNA encoding the human ADSF/resistin. The nucleotide sequence homology of the Hanwoo sequence was 73% and 64% for the rat and mouse, respectively. A 654 bp ADSF/resistin gene promoter was cloned and putative binding sites of transcription factors were identified. Tissue distribution of ADSF mRNA was examined in liver, skeletal muscles (tenderloin, biceps femoris), subcutaneous fat, and perirenal fat by RT-PCR. ADSF mRNAs were detected in fat tissues but not in liver and muscles, suggesting that ADSF/resistin expression may be induced during adipogenesis. Although, the physiological function of ADSF/resistin in the cow remains to be determined, these data indicate ADSF is related to the adipocyte phenotype and may have a possibly regulatory role in adipocyte function.
HRTF Measurement and Its Application for 3-D Soung Localization

Based on the anthropometric data of Korea male adults, a head and torso simulator(HATS) is constructed to measure its head related transfer functions (HRTFs) which can be used for three dimensional (3-D) sound localization. The HRTFs binaural impulse responses, are measured in an anechoic chamber using a burst maximum length sequence (MLS) signal of 65,535 samples and 32,768 samples acquisition at the sampling rate of 75.47kHz. Also measured are the impulse responses of a driving loudspeaker and some headphones for sound reproduction to get the exact HRTF of the HATS-alone. Through a post-processing procedure, the impulse-version HRTFs at the sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz, which have filter lengths of 512 points, are finally obtained. As an application of the measured HRTFs, a 3-D sound processor for headphone reproduction has been developed. The signal intervals to be processed can be selected and each interval is manipulated to have its diretionality and distance information by using corresponding HRTF and energy control.
Short Tandem Repeat(STR)System HUMCYAR04 in Korean Population

A genetic population study for the tetrameric STR, the HUMCYAR04 in the Korean population was carried out. Typing for the HUMCYAR04 of 236 unrelated Koreans was done by PCR and PAGE-silverstaining. Eight alleles were observed and their frequencies were in the range of 0.0042-0.3491. Allele 5, 6, and 10 were higher frequencies than other alleles. No significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium could be observed in the genotype distribution. The observed heterozygosity was 0.7426 and the PIC value was 0.7268. The power of discrimination (PD) was 0. 8906 and the chance of exclusion (CE) was 0.4809. There is no significant difference in the allele frequencies at the HUMCYAR04 locus between Koreans and Asians. However, the Koreans did slightly differ for the allele frequencies when compared with Mexican-Americans, Blacks, and Caucasians.
