Identification of the Genes Involved in the Fruiting Body Production and Cordycepin Formation of Cordyceps militaris Fungus

        Zheng, Zhuang-Li,Qiu, Xue-Hong,Han, Ri-Chou The Korean Society of Mycology 2015 Mycobiology Vol.43 No.1

A mutant library of Cordyceps militaris was constructed by improved Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation and screened for degradation features. Six mutants with altered characters in in vitro and in vivo fruiting body production, and cordycepin formation were found to contain a single copy T-DNA. T-DNA flanking sequences of these mutants were identified by thermal asymmetric interlaced-PCR approach. ATP-dependent helicase, cytochrome oxidase subunit I and ubiquitin-like activating enzyme were involved in in vitro fruiting body production, serine/threonine phosphatase involved in in vivo fruiting body production, while glucose-methanol-choline oxidoreductase and telomerase reverse transcriptase involved in cordycepin formation. These genes were analyzed by bioinformatics methods, and their molecular function and biology process were speculated by Gene Ontology (GO) analysis. The results provided useful information for the control of culture degeneration in commercial production of C. militaris.

Enhanced thermoelectric performance of P-type Sb2Te3 thin films through organic-inorganic hybridization on flexible substrate

        Zhuang-hao Zheng,Jing-ting Luo,Feng Li,Guang-xing Liang,Ping Fan 한국물리학회 2019 Current Applied Physics Vol.19 No.4

In this work, a new idea of organic-inorganic hybridization was proposed to fabricate flexible p-type - Sb2Te3/ CH3NH3I thin films. The CH3NH3I has a strong adsorption which can promote the growth of organic molecules, improve the crystallization, and finally increase electrical conductivity. Post-annealing of the fabricated films increased the phonon scattering, thus resulting in a reduction of thermal conductivity and an increased ZT value. The annealed hybrid-composite film showed a significant enhancement in thermoelectric performance, with a maximum ZT value of 0.94 at a temperature of 413 K, which is twice as large as that of the as-deposited film.

      • Study on the transient flow induced by the windbreak transition regions in a railway subject to crosswinds

        Zheng-Wei Chen,Syeda Anam Hashmi,Tanghong Liu,Wenhui Li,Zhuang Sun,Dongrun Liu,Hassan Hemida,Hong-Kang Liu 한국풍공학회 2022 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.35 No.5

Due to the complex terrain around high-speed railways, the windbreaks were established along different landforms, resulting in irregular windbreak transition regions between different subgrade infrastructures (flat ground, cutting, embankment, etc). In this paper, the effect of a windbreak transition on the wind flow around railways subjected to crosswinds was studied. Wind tunnel testing was conducted to study the wind speed change around a windbreak transition on flat ground with a uniform wind speed inflow, and the collected data were used to validate a numerical simulation based on a detached eddy simulation method. The validated numerical method was then used to investigate the effect of the windbreak transition from the flat ground to cutting (the “cutting” is a railway subgrade type formed by digging down from the original ground) for three different wind incidence angles of 90º, 75º, and 105º. The deterioration mechanism of the flow fields and the reasons behind the occurrence of the peak wind velocities were explained in detail. The results showed that for the windbreak transition on flat ground, the impact was small. For the transition from the flat ground to the cutting, the influence was relatively large. The significant increase in the wind speeds was due to the right-angle structure of the windbreak transition, which resulted in sudden changes of the wind velocity as well as the direction. In addition, the height mismatch in the transition region worsened the protective effect of a typical windbreak.

Design and Analysis of the Directional Transport Device for Bulk Rod Materials in Sand Fixation Equipment

Zhuang Guo,Weiqiang Zheng,Liping Zhang,Fei Li 한국정밀공학회 2023 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.24 No.1

To address the problem that sand fixation equipment cannot use bulk rod material for conveying operations, a directional transport device for bulk rod materials is designed, which realizes the flipping conveying of rod material from horizontal to vertical direction. The rod material is directionally conveyed under the clamping of two adjacent forks of the chain conveyor belt. The directional turning process of the rod material is analysed using the discrete element method, and the operating principle and feasibility of the rod material’s directional transportation are explained. To optimize the working performance of the device, an orthogonal combination test is carried out through physical prototype, with the conveying thickness, filling rate and conveyance speed of the rod material as the experimental factors, and the rod material’s qualified rate as the test index. The test results show that the experimental factors mentioned above can be ranked from the filling rate, the conveyance speed and then to the conveyance thickness according to their degrees of influence on the delivery rate of rod materials. The optimal parameter combination is obtained, and the results are also verified by experiments. This study has solved the problem of directional transport device for bulk rod materials in sand fixation equipment, which has theoretical significance and application value in the design of sand fixation equipment material conveying system.

      • No association Between Calcium Channel Blockers and Survival in Patients with Cancer: A systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Sun, Hong,Zhuang, Rong-Yuan,Li, Tao,Zheng, Yuan-Ting,Cai, Wei-Min Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.8

Background: The association between calcium channel blockers (CCBs) and survival in cancer patients remains unclear and the results of related studies are conflicting. The objective of the study was to investigate the association between calcium channel blockers (CCBs) use and survival in cancer patients. Materials and Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library for studies published before January 2016 with the terms related to CCBs and survival in cancer patients. The information was reviewed and extracted by two evaluators independently. Data of publications was extracted and calculated into hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS). Statistical analysis was performed by using Review Manager 5.3. Results: There were 11 studies included in our meta-analysis. Analysis of all studies showed that CCBs use was not associated with survival in cancer patients (HR=1.07; 95% CI: 0.91-1.25; P=0.42). No association between CCBs use and overall survival in cancer patients was existed whether in Asian (HR=1.18, 95% CI: 0.72-1.93; P=0.52) or Caucasian population (HR=1.03, 95% CI: 0.89-1.20; P=0.66). Conclusions: There is no evidence that CCBs use is associated with a better or worse outcome of survival in cancer patients.

Efficacy and Safety of a Steroid-Free Immunosuppressive Regimen after Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

2016 Gut and Liver Vol.10 No.4

Background/Aims: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of an immunosuppressive regimen without steroids after liver transplantation (LT) for hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: Sixty-six HCC patients who underwent an immunosuppressive regimen without steroids after LT were enrolled in the steroid-free group. The preoperative characteristics and postoperative outcomes of these patients were compared with those of 132 HCC recipients who were placed on an immunosuppressive regimen using steroids (steroid group). The incidence of acute rejection, HBV recurrence, infection, and new-onset diabetes mellitus and the overall and tumor-free survival rates were compared between the two groups. Results: Differences were not observed in the 1-year (83.3% vs 97.0%, p=0.067), 3-year (65.4% vs 75.8%, p=0.067) or 5-year (56.3% vs 70.7%, p=0.067) patient survival rates or in the 1-year (62.1% vs 72.7%, p=0.067), 3-year (49.8% vs 63.6%, p=0.067) or 5-year (48.6% vs 63.6%, p=0.067) tumor-free survival rates between the two groups, respectively. In the steroid-free group, the patients who fulfilled the Milan criteria had higher overall and tumor-free survival rates than those in the steroid group (p<0.001). The prevalence of HBV recurrence (3.0% vs 13.6%, p=0.02) was significantly lower in the steroid-free group compared with the steroid group. Conclusions: After LT, an immunosuppressive regimen without steroids could be a safe and feasible treatment for HBVrelated HCC patients, thus resulting in the reduction of HBV recurrence. Based on the observed survival rates, patients who fulfill the Milan criteria may derive benefits from steroidfree immunosuppression.
