Synthesis and Viscoelastic Behavior of Non-Stoichiometric Spinel Ferrite Particle Suspension

<P>Magnetorheological (MR) fluid with tunable and reversible phase transition is one of the most promising smart materials for engineering applications. In this paper, to improve the MR performance of ferrites, non-stoichiometric Zn-doped spinel ferrite (Zn<SUB>0.417</SUB>Fe<SUB>2.583</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>) nanoparticles with a high saturation magnetization and a truncated octahedron-like shape were synthesized using a thermal decomposition process. The crystallographic structure was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and field emission transmission electron microscope image. The Zn<SUB>0.417</SUB>Fe<SUB>2.583</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> had a high saturation magnetization value of 101 <TEX>$\text {A}\cdot \text {m}^{2}$</TEX>/kg at 933 kA/m, showing higher saturation magnetization than other ferrites. The MR characteristics of the Zn<SUB>0.417</SUB>Fe<SUB>2.583</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> particles suspended in silicone oil were studied using a rotation rheometer under various magnetic field strengths. This MR fluid exhibited typical MR characteristics, and its flow curves were fit well with the Herschel–Bulkley model.</P>
3D프린팅을 활용한 프로젝트 기반 융합수업의 설계 및 적용

3D printing, which is part of software education, requires the production of meaningful knowledge in unison with subject knowledge. This gives, from an integrated education perspective, a valuable learning experience beyond simple interest. In this study 10 project-based, content integrated 3D printing lessons, using content from various subjects for 6th grade students, were designed and their effectiveness verified. In the lessons content from Math, Social Studies, Practical Computing, and Art was integrated into a team project wherein students had to use 3D modelling to produce miniaturized landmarks that represent various regions of Korea. The project-based lesson design used the problem-solving process involved in 3D modelling and printing to reinforce collaborative interaction amongst the students, while also enhancing the cohesion between the various subjects. The results of this research show that students' information science creativity and integrated thinking disposition have been improved meaningfully. This research is significant in showing that 3D printing lesson learning outcomes can be developed beyond simply producing objects of interest, but to integrating content and inter-subject connectivity.
The Effects of PNF Rhythmic Dance on the Change of Static Balance Ability in Young Adults

This study was to investigate the effects of upper and lower limb composing patterns of PNF(proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) on the static balance ability by 20 subjects for 6 weeks. This study was measured left one leg standing and right one leg standing with closed eyes on Good Balance system. These results led us to the conclusion that the mean speed of X, Y direction, COP(center of Pressure) velocity moment showed a statistical decrease when applying post-exercise. The above results from this study indicated that upper and lower limb composing patterns of PNF exercise has improved the static balance ability. As a result, this study showed that upper and lower limb composing patterns exercise improve the ability of balance in young adults. Based on this study, it may be applied to old people.
Antiplatelet and Antithrombotic Activities of Korean Red Ginseng

The antiplatelet and antithrombotic activities of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) were examined on rat carotid artery thrombosis in vivo, and platelet aggregation in vitro and ex vivo. Administration of KRG to rats not only prevented carotid artery thrombosis in vivo in a dose-dependent manner, but also significantly inhibited ADP- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation ex vivo, while failed to prolong coagulation times such as activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and prothrombin time (PT), indicating the antithrombotic effect of KRG might be due to its anti platelet aggregation rather than anticoagulation effect. In line with the above observations, KRG inhibited U46619-, arachidonic acid-, collagen- and thrombin-induced rabbit platelet aggregation in vitro in a concentration-dependent manner, with $IC_{50}$ values of $620{\pm}12$, $823{\pm}22$, $722{\pm}21$ and $650{\pm}14\;{\mu}g/mL$, respectively. Accordingly, KRG also inhibited various agonists-induced platelet serotonin secretions as it suppressed platelet aggregation. These results suggest that KRG has a potent antithrombotic effect in vivo, which may be due to antiplatelet rather than anticoagulation activity, and KRG intake may be beneficial to the individuals with high risks of thrombotic and cardiovascular diseases.

<P>To extract optical constants of nontransmitted samples in the terahertz (THz) spectral region, we employ a THz emitter-sample hybrid structure where THz pulses are generated at the emitter surface and multiply reflected at the interface between the THz emitter and the sample. Since each THz electric field profile appears well separated in a time domain, we could obtain the amplitude and phase spectra for each pulse from the Fourier transform, and determine the optical constants of the sample numerically based on the Fresnel equations. We applied this technique for doped semiconductors, and found that obtained optical constants are in good agreement with the values determined by using other conventional THz techniques.</P>
