Batch sorption experiments were carried out for the removal of metylene blue from its aqueous solution using H3PO4 activated Acacia arabica carbon (AAC). The prepared activated carbon was characterized and was found as an effective adsorbent material. The operating variables studied were initial metylene blue concentration, AAC concentration and solution pH. AAC activated carbon posses a maximum sorption capacity for the range of initial dye concentrations studied (60~100 mg L-1). The sorption kinetics were analyzed using reversible first order kinetics, second order, reversible first order, pseudo-first order, and pseudo-second order model. The sorption data tend to fit very well in pseudo-second order model for the entire sorption time. The average pseudo-second order rate constant, KII and regression coefficient value were determined to be 0.0174 mg g-1 min-1 and 0.9977. The biosorption process also fit well to reversible I order kinetics with a regression coefficient of 0.9878.

Dalchini bark (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) being a vast treasure of phytoconstitutents have a tremendous ethnomedicinal value. Dalchini (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) being a delicious spice with an impressive effects on health and metabolism. Cinnamon barks are available in the market in lot of varieties. So it’s difficult to identify and select dalchini adulterant by numerous substituent and exhausted drugs which are of fewer efficacies and have an harmful effects for human beings. Dalchini are adulterate with Cinnamon cassia, Cinnaniomon burmanii, Cinnaniomon loureirii with other spices and amurud (Psidium guajava, common guava, lemon guava) etc. The present chapter is an attempt to cater various techniques for the identified of the adulterants and substitutes to shot out deterioration of herb potential.

In this paper, a new two dimensional (2D) analytical modeling and simulation for a Dual Material Double Gate tunnel field effect transistor (DMDG TFET) is proposed. The Parabolic approximation technique is used to solve the 2-D Poisson equation with suitable boundary conditions and analytical expressions for surface potential and electric field are derived. This electric field distribution is further used to calculate the tunnelling generation rate and thus we numerically extract the tunnelling current. The results show a significant improvement in on-current characteristics while short channel effects are greatly reduced. Effectiveness of the proposed model has been confirmed by comparing the analytical results with the TCAD simulation results.

Zeolite ZSM-5 coating on mild steel had been assessed for its corrosion resistance property against organic acids, namely, acetic acid, formic acid and citric acid of varying concentrations at temperatures up to 60 8C under stagnant as well as stirred conditions by weight-loss and polarization methods. Biocidal activity of the zeolite coating against Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas putida,Salmonella typhi and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus by using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was also studied. With zeolite coating, corrosion inhibition efficiency up to 98% was achieved for 6 h of duration of contact between coating and acid solutions. Similar resistance persisted for the duration of 7 days too. Results obtained showed that extent of corrosion of mild steel decreased in the order, formic acid > citric acid > acetic acid. Also as expected, corrosion resistance though only slightly,decreased with solution temperature and concentration. High anti-microbial activity was observed at very low values of MIC (100 mg/mL). In light of reported literature, the presence of the structure directing agent within the channels of the zeolite has been attributed for the high corrosion resistance as well as anti-microbial activity observed here. Thus, zeolite offers a ‘‘greener’’ alternate to chromium and epoxy polymers based corrosion resistance coating.
Myogenic Satellite Cells and Its Application in Animals - A Review

Myogenic satellite cells have been isolated and identified by several recently elucidated molecular markers. Furthermore, knowledge about the precise function of these markers has provided insight into the early and terminal events of satellite cells during proliferation, differentiation, transdifferentiation, specification and activation. Recently, quiescent myogenic satellite cells have been associated with possession of Pax 3 and 7 that represent pluripotent stem cells capable of differentiating into other lineages. However, the mechanism by which myogenic satellite cells attain pluripotent potential remain elusive. Later, transdifferentiating ability of these cells to another lineage in the absence or presence of certain growth factor/ or agents has revolutionized the scope of these pluripotent myogenic satellite cells for manipulation of animal production (in terms of quality and quantity of muscle protein) and health (in terms of repair of skeletal muscle, cartilage or bone).
Gender Differences in Influence of Socio-demographic Characteristics on Mode Choice in India

The study aims to investigate differences between men and women in influence of various socio-demographic factors on choice of mode of transport. For this purpose, a binary logit model of choice probabilities is implemented on survey data of a developing country city. Results indicate women’s choice of travel mode to be more environment-friendly than that of men. Well-educated, working and middleaged individuals appear to be the most likely to choosing more-polluting modes of transport for frequent travelling purposes. Individuals in the sample who are the least socioeconomically well off are found the most likely to be promising for the environment. The findings of this study suggest the future transportation policies toward development of existing infrastructure of greener modes of transportation in the city such as, public transportation services and pedestrian lanes, so as to manage the rising issues of degrading environmental quality. The study highlights how the consideration and inclusion of socio-demographic factors is crucial for policy recommendation regarding curtailing the environmental damages contributed by transportation sector. Because mobility crucially affects all other indicators of empowerment, and women are the ones using green modes extensively, the city’s transportation system should be so developed which gives their safety and security due importance.
Gait / Foot Pressure Measurement Techniques - Development of Low-Cost Measurement Method

Purpose: The geometrical balance or equilibrium of the human body’s musculoskeletal system are represented by foot pressure distribution. Improper Foot Pressure Distribution leads to multiple disorders like lower back pain, leg pain, and mild pronation, which further impacts body balance. The objective of the proposed work is two-fold (i) To understand the techniques available for measuring foot interface pressure and (ii) To develop a low cost and portable measuring technique in both static and dynamic conditions for specific applications. Methods: Multiple literatures from various databases with combination of keywords like foot pressure distribution, force sensor, wearable insole, force plate and gait pattern from past ten years are examined. Results: The literature was reviewed and a comparative study has been conducted to produce the pros and cons of each measuring technique. Also, the correlation between foot pressure distribution and key factors like gender, age, height and weight were analyzed to understand the body balance and gait pattern. To propose a low cost and portable foot pressure measuring technique. Conclusion: Validate the proposed techniques with available standard method. Effects of improper foot pressure distribution are examined and the techniques to measure improper foot pressure distribution are compared.
