This study was to look for cutting conditions which are safe, comfortable and contributable to the increase in productivity at the time in turning. The shape of chips while turning have a strong effect on cutting processing. If chips fail to be well controlled, systematic cutting is not possible by revolution of chips entangled with workpiece or damage of tool edges, and this causes problems threatening the safety of the operator. This study is designed to identify conditions which chips effectively controlled and able to treat properly, and the results are as follows: 1. Feed rate, which determined the shape of chips, was found to have a stronger impact on the shape of resulting chips than any other cutting condition. 2. When feed rate was 0.25mm or over, controlled chips(coil spring type) were produced under whatever cutting conditions. 3. When feed rate was 0.25mm or over and depth of cut was 1.0mm, well-controlled shorter coil type chips were produced at every spindle speed, which implied they were the most suitable cutting conditions. 4. Feed rate 0.2mm was found to be an unstable section where coil spring and linear mixed type chips were produced together, and as feed rate decreased, more linear chips beyond control were produced. 5. At the same spindle speed, as the diameter of the material became bigger, controlled chips were produced only when the depth of cut was reduced, and vice versa under feed rate 0.2mm. 6. At the same feed rate, the lower spindle speed was, the more stable chips were produced.

Kikuchi`s disease (KD), histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis, is a rare self-limited lymphadenopathy, which usually affects young women. KD has been reported to precede, coexist with or follow the diagnosis of other entities, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), adult-onset Still`s disease, Hashimoto`s disease, and viral infections. In a few cases, KD is associated with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), without systemic involvement. Herein, we report the first Korean case of KD associated with lupus erythematous profundus in a 9-year-old boy. (Korean J Dermatol 2012;50(4):341∼345)

Background: Oral isotretinoin is an effective treatment modality for acne, but this agent may cause dryness of the skin and mucous membrane. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) has been known to improve skin moisture and reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). It is also known to have anti-inflammatory effects and to inhibit 5-alpha reductase. Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of GLA in the prevention of xerosis and improvement of acne lesions after concomitant administration of isotretinoin. Methods: In this prospective study, 102 Korean acne patients were enrolled and randomized to receive isotretinoin either with or without GLA for 12 weeks. Comparing evaluations included skin hydration, TEWL, visual analogue scale (VAS) score for dryness of the lips and skin, number of acne lesions such as comedos, papules, and pustules, Korean acne grading system (KAGS) grade, and patient satisfaction regarding treatment. Results: The decrease of skin hydration and increase of the TEWL of the lips and cheek were less definite in the experimental group than those of the control group. VAS score for dryness of the lips and skin was significantly lower in the experimental group compared with the control group. The number of acne lesions decreased in both groups; only the numbers of papules were different between the two groups. The decrease of the KAGS grade was more definite in the experimental group than that in the control group. Conclusion: This study suggests that GLA could be used effectively for the improvement of acne lesions as well as for the prevention of xerosis. (Korean J Dermatol 2013;51(11):863∼870)
Prenatal development toxicity study of zinc oxide nanoparticles in rats

<P>This study investigated the potential adverse effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles ([ZnO<SUP>SM20(+)</SUP> NPs] zinc oxide nanoparticles, positively charged, 20 nm) on pregnant dams and embryo–fetal development after maternal exposure over the period of gestational days 5–19 with Sprague-Dawley rats. ZnO<SUP>SM20(+)</SUP> NPs were administered to pregnant rats by gavage at 0, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg/day. All dams were subjected to a cesarean section on gestational day 20, and all of the fetuses were examined for external, visceral, and skeletal alterations. Toxicity in the dams manifested as significantly decreased body weight after administration of 400 mg/kg/day NPs; reduced food consumption after administration of 200 and 400 mg/kg/day NPs; and decreased liver weight and increased adrenal glands weight after administration of 400 mg/kg/day NPs. However, no treatment-related difference in: number of corpora lutea; number of implantation sites; implantation rate (%); resorption; dead fetuses; litter size; fetal deaths and placental weights; and sex ratio were observed between the groups. On the other hand, significant decreases between treatment groups and controls were seen for fetal weights after administration of 400 mg/kg/day NPs. Morphological examinations of the fetuses demonstrated significant differences in incidences of abnormalities in the group administered 400mg/kg/day. Meanwhile, no significant difference was found in the Zn content of fetal tissue between the control and high-dose groups. These results showed that oral doses for the study with 15-days repeated of ZnO<SUP>SM20(+)</SUP> NPs were maternotoxic in the 200 mg/kg/day group, and embryotoxic in the 400 mg/kg/day group.</P>

Depigmented halos surrounding cutaneous lesions have been the common description of many diseases, including benign melanocytic nevus, acquired blue nevi, malignant melanoma and neurofibromatosis. To the best of our knowledge, a halo around seborrheic keratosis has not been reported in the Korean dermatologic literature, and only two cases have been described abroad. Though vitiligo is known to be frequently associated with this halo phenomenon, the exact etiopathogenesis of vitiligo and the halo phenomenon is still unknown. Herein, we report on a case of halo seborrheic keratosis in a patient with vitiligo. (Korean J Dermatol 2011;49(6):554∼556)
Magnesium Hydride Attenuates Cognitive Impairment in a Rat Model of Vascular Dementia

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathogenesis of central nervous system diseases, including vascular dementia (VaD). Thus, scientific attention has been given to the uptake of molecular hydrogen (H₂), a powerful ROS scavenger that is abundant in nature, as a potential therapeutic candidate. Among the methods to supply H₂, we selected an oral supplement of magnesium hydride (MgH₂) and investigated its therapeutic role in cognitive impairment and hippocampal neuronal death associated with VaD. Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups (n of each=8) and subjected to different conditions: SO, a group with vehicle and sham-operation; VEH, a group with a vehicle and 2VO/H (2 vessel occlusion and hypovolemia, used as a surgical model of VaD); MH-L, a group with low dose (5 mg/kg) of MgH₂ and 2VO/H; and MH-H, a group with high dose (15 mg/kg) of MgH₂ and 2VO/H. MgH₂ or vehicle was administered via an intragastric route for 14 days before the operation. Subsequently, the memory performances of rats were tested using three behavior tests, i.e., Y-maze-, Barnes maze-, and passive avoidance tests (PAT). On postoperative day 8, the number of viable neurons in the hippocampal Cornu Ammonis (CA) 1 region was measured. The results of behavioral tests revealed that memory performance was significantly hampered in the VEH group when compared with the SO group; however, the extent of the impairment was markedly diminished in the MH-L and MH-H groups. While the number of pyramidal neurons in hippocampal CA1 was largely reduced in the VEH group when compared with the SO group, this reduction was significantly attenuated in the MH-L and MH-H groups. The effects of MgH₂ were dose-dependent in PAT and histologic experiments. These results suggest that MgH₂ supplementation can attenuate cognitive impairment and hippocampal neuronal death associated with VaD.

Background: Mycobacterial identification in active pulmonary tuberculosis (APTB) is confirmative, even though successful rates using self-expectorated sputum are limited. Sputum specimens collected by hypertonic saline nebulization showed higher bacteriologic diagnostic sensitivities over those of self-expectoration, mostly studied in smear-negative or sputum-scarce patients. The efficacy of induced sputum was rarely assessed in real clinical settings. Methods: A prospective randomized case-control study was performed in one hospital. The subjects highly suspicious of APTB were asked to provide 3 pairs of sputum specimens in 3 consecutive days. The first pairs of the specimens were obtained either by self-expectoration (ES) from the next day of the visit or sputum induction with 7% saline nebulization in clinic (SI), and the other specimens were collected in the same way. The samples were tested in microscopy, culture, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The outcomes of the bacteriological diagnosis were compared. Results: Seventy six patients were assigned to either ES (38 subjects, median age of 51, 65.8% male) or SI (38 subjects, median age of 55, 52.6% male). APTB was clinically confirmed in 51 patients (70.8%), 27 in ES and 24 in SI. Among the APTB, more adequate specimens were collected from SI (41/65, 63.1%) than ES (34/80, 42.5%) (p=0.01). Bacteriological confirmation was achieved in 14 (58.3%) patients in SI, and 13 (48.1%) in ES (p=0.46). In the same-day bacteriological diagnosis with microscopy and PCR, there were positive results for 9 patients (37.5%) in SI and 7 patients (25.9%) in ES (p=0.37). Conclusion: Sputum induction improves sputum specimen adequacy. It may be useful for the same-day bacteriological diagnosis with microscopic examination and PCR.

Background : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the ridge and mulching cultivation and adapted sowing(planting)time in stable medicinal herbs production of Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold et Zuc. And it accomplished one’s purpose to GAP guide manual established standard method of cultivation technology, contribute to the enlargement of farm’s income. Methods and Results : Method of cultivation type with the ridge and covering material were conducted under two condition compose to open cultivation (level row : 120㎝ ridging, black polyethylene mulching) and plastic greenhouse cultivation (high row : 90㎝ ridging, non-woven fabric mulching). Sowing with Daehong varieties in April 17, transplanting July 25 by growing pot seedling for 40 days in 2015. Planting density were spaced 30㎝ apart in inter-rows 10 ㎝ apart intra-row. Fertilizing level of N-P-K-Compost (fermented mixed oil cake fertilizer) applied at 6-4-6-300 ㎏․10 a−1, 60% of basal fertilizer in March 14, 40% of top dressing were four times application in April 14 ~July 15. Plot design randomized block 3 repetition. Conclusions : Compared to level ridging on black polyethylene mulching open cultivation for growing plastic greenhouse with the high ridging non woven mulching cultivation, seed yields havesting 1.4 times, the dried roots yields increased in 0.7 times. Also, Growth characteristics by sowing time in April 16. compared to planting time in July 25. Length of stem and main root of above-ground, subterranean part growth increment rising highest. Seed and dried roots yields with increased by 71%, 30%. respectively.
