In the view of the results investigated the effect of air pollutants that is emitted from a new generator facilities, the total estimated concentration which is the summation of a contributional concentration and observational concentration is much less than that of atmospheric environment criterion for the air pollutants. So we can predict that the operation of the new generator facilities with mitigation equipment don't seriously affect around environment. At the same time, we compared the contributional concentration of before mitigation equipment with that of after it to examine the decreasing amount due to mitigation equipment. The result showed that the concentration of SO2, NO2 and PM-10 is reduced to 25%, 30% and 26% of original value, respectively.

Background For volar soft tissue defects of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint, free flaps are technically challenging, but have more esthetic and functional advantages than local or distant flaps. In this study, we compared the long-term surgical outcomes of arterial (hypothenar, thenar, or second toe plantar) and venous free flaps for volar defects of the PIP joint. Methods This was a single-center retrospective review of free flap coverage of volar defects between the distal interphalangeal and metacarpophalangeal joint from July 2010 to August 2019. Patients with severe crush injuries (degloving, tendon or bone defects, or comminuted/ intra-articular fractures), thumb injuries, multiple-joint and finger injuries, dorsal soft tissue defects, and defects >6 cm in length were excluded from the study, as were those lost to follow-up within 6 months. Thirteen patients received arterial (hypothenar, thenar, or second toe plantar) free flaps and 12 received venous free flaps. Patients’ age, follow-up period, PIP joint active range of motion (ROM), extension lag, grip-strength ratio of the injured to the uninjured hand, and Quick Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder & Hand (QuickDASH) score were compared between the groups. Results Arterial free flaps showed significantly higher PIP joint active ROM (P=0.043) and lower extension lag (P=0.035) than venous free flaps. The differences in flexion, grip strength, and QuickDASH scores were not statistically significant. Conclusions The surgical outcomes of arterial free flaps were superior to those of venous free flaps for volar defects of the PIP joint.

<P>Single radial immunodiffusion (SRID) assay requires a reference antigen and an antibody to the hemagglutinin (HA) of an influenza vaccine. As it takes 2???3 months to develop the reference antigen, vaccine development is delayed in cases of an influenza pandemic. In the present study, the measurement of the HA content of influenza vaccines was assessed using size exclusion high performance liquid chromatography (SE???HPLC) for the rapid development of a pandemic vaccine. When the 2009 H1N1 reference antigen, pandemic 2009 H1N1 vaccine and 2010 seasonal influenza vaccines were analyzed by SE???HPLC, the HA of the reference antigen and vaccines was specifically separated. The presence and specificity of HA were evidenced with immunoprecipitation and ELISA assays. For the influenza vaccines, the chromatogram pattern and retention time of HA were similar among the antigen types (2009 H1N1, 2010 H3N2 and 2010 B). In addition, when SE???HPLC was applied, the ratio of HA chromatogram to peak area revealed a significant correlation with HA concentration for the reference antigen and vaccine. The result of the HA content calculation based on SE???HPLC exhibited 99.91???100% similarity, compared with that of SRID. These findings suggest that the measurement of peak area ratio/HA content using SE???HPLC may be a substitute for SRID and rapidly measure HA content to enable faster development of a vaccine during an influenza pandemic.</P>

<P>Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE) has been widely used in the medical field for bone regeneration around implants and as a maxillofacial tissue filling alternative. The purpose of this study was to investigate the surface properties and biocompatibility of surface modified e-PTFE prepared by atmospheric-pressure acrylic acid (AA) plasma polymerization. After the AA plasma polymerization, surface properties such as hydrophilicity, roughness, and morphology were characterized using water contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The contact angle and surface roughness of plasma-polymerized e-PTFE decreased significantly. In vitro results showed higher cell proliferation and good cell adhesion. Atmospheric-pressure AA plasma polymerization may be used to improve the biocompatibility of e-PTFE-based biomaterials.</P>

<P>In this study, recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) was directly immobilized on the plasma-polymerized propionaldehyde (PA) and allylglycidyl ether (AGE) surface through the imine bonding and epoxy-amine bonding, respectively. Aldehyde and epoxide plasma-polymerization were carried out at plasma power 60 W for 10 min and monomers were used to PA and AGE. After the plasma-polymerization and rhBMP-2 immobilization, substrate surfaces were characterized by contact angle, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared. In addition, the biological activities of MC3T3-E1 cells were evaluated by initial adhesion and alkaline phosphate (ALP) activity. The rhBMP-2 immobilized PA and AGE surfaces promoted significantly higher ALP activity of MC3T3-E1 cells than pristine surface.</P>
