        An automated quality assurance system with deep learning for small cube-ball phantom localization in noisy megavoltage images

        To enhance effi ciency and minimize errors, we automated the quality assurance (QA) process in radiation oncology, specifi - cally laser localization. Additionally, we explored the use of a convolutional neural network (CNN) to enhance the detection of small cube-ball phantoms in noisy images. Laser localizations were measured manually on the acquired images. To automate the QA workfl ow, we developed a Linux server equipped with database and web servers. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) fi les were retrieved 40 times for 10 linear accelerators (LINACs). The center of the cube-ball phantoms was estimated through Gaussian fi tting. We applied CNN using 6,968 stored results to improve the estimation performance in noisy megavoltage (MV) images. Subsequently, both analysis time and accuracy were compared. Our hospital has been employing the automated QA system since 2018, notably reducing the time for laser localization from 30 min to just 1 min. The average and standard deviation (SD) of inter-observer variability in the X- and Y-axes were 0.06 ± 0.01 mm and 0.05 ± 0.01 mm, respectively. Absolute diff erences between manual assessment and Gaussian fi tting presented average and SD values of 0.40 ± 0.51 mm and 0.23 ± 0.24 mm, respectively. In contrast, absolute diff erences between manual assessment and CNN presented average and SD values of 0.12 ± 0.10 mm and 0.11 ± 0.09 mm, respectively. Overall, the automated QA system signifi cantly hastened procedures in our large hospital and improved the estimation of the cube-ball phantom’s position in noisy images through deep learning.

        붕장어 부산물로 제조한 붕장어탕의 식품학적 특성

        붕장어 가공부산물인 머리와 frame를 효율적으로 이용하기 위한 일련의 연구로 붕장어 부산물을 이용한 붕장어탕의 개발을 시도하였고, 아울러 이의 식품성분 특성에 대하여도 살펴보았다. 살균조건 및 가온일수에 따른 붕장어탕의 저장성 부여를 위한 최적 살균조건은 F? value=8분으로 판단되었다. 붕장어탕의 일반성분은 수분의 경우 90.7%, 조단백질의 경우 4.8%, 조지방의 경우 2.6%, 조회분의 경우 1.5%를 나타내었다. 붕장어탕의 엑스분 질소 함량은 243.1 ㎎/100 g으로 시판 추어탕의 208.0 ㎎/100 g보다 높았다. 붕장어탕의 총 아미노산 함량은 4,310 ㎎/100 g이었고, 주요 구성아미노산은 glutamic acid(637.3 ㎎/100 g, 14.8%), glycine(409.1 ㎎/100 g, 9.5%) 및 alanine(404.4 ㎎/100 g, 9.3%)등이었다. 붕장어탕은 관능적인 비린내는 거의 감지되지 않았고, 맛은 우수하였으며, 항산화능이 인정되었으나 ACE 저해능은 크게 기대할 수 없었다. For the effective use of the conger eel by-products, such as head and frame, Tang, which is the Korean-type soup, from conger eel by-products (TCEB) was developed and its food component characterization was compared with that of commercial Chueotang, loach Tang. According to the results of viable cells and coliform group of TCEB heated at 115oC for various times, the reasonable F0 value was 8 min. The proximate composition of TCEB was 90.7% for the moisture, 4.8% for the protein, 2.6% for the lipid, and 1.5% for the ash. The extractive-nitrogen content of TCEB was 243.1 ㎎/100 g, which was higher than that of commercial Chueotang, 208.0 ㎎/100 g. The total amino acid content of TCEB was 4,310 ㎎/100 g and its major amino acids were glutamic acid (637.3 ㎎/100 g, 14.8%), glycine (409.1 ㎎/100 g, 9.5%) and alanine (404.4 ㎎/100 g, 9.3%). TCEB was not felt in the sensual fish odor and its sensual taste was good. The health functional properties for health of TCEB were 1.29 as a PF (protection factor) for antioxidative activity and 39.4% for angiotensin Ⅰ converting enzyme (ACE) inhibiting activity.

      • Development of electrochemical biosensor for detection of pathogenic microorganism in Asian dust events

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We developed a single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)-based electrochemical biosensor for the detection of <I>Bacillus subtilis,</I> one of the microorganisms observed in Asian dust events, which causes respiratory diseases such as asthma and pneumonia. SWCNTs plays the role of a transducer in biological antigen/antibody reaction for the electrical signal while 1-pyrenebutanoic acid succinimidyl ester (1-PBSE) and ant-<I>B. subtilis</I> were performed as a chemical linker and an acceptor, respectively, for the adhesion of target microorganism in the developed biosensor. The detection range (10<SUP>2</SUP>–10<SUP>10</SUP> CFU/mL) and the detection limit (10<SUP>2</SUP> CFU/mL) of the developed biosensor were identified while the response time was 10 min. The amount of target <I>B. subtilis</I> was the highest in the specificity test of the developed biosensor, compared with the other tested microorganisms (<I>Staphylococcus aureus</I>, <I>Flavobacterium psychrolimnae</I>, and <I>Aquabacterium commune</I>).         Poly(vinylbenzyl chloride-glycidyl methacrylate)/Polyethylene Composite Anion Exchange Membranes for Vanadium Redox Battery Application

        Anion exchange membranes for a vanadium redox flow battery (VRB) were prepared by pore-filling on a PE substrate with the copolymerization of vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). The ion exchange capacity, water uptake and weight gain ratio were increased with a similar tendency up to 65% of GMA content, indicating that the monomer improved the pore-filling degree and membrane properties. The vanadium ion permeability and open-circuit voltage were also investigated. The permeability of the VG65 membrane was only $1.23{\times}10^{-7}\;cm^2\;min^{-1}$ compared to $17.9{\times}10^{-7}\;cm^2\;min^{-1}$ for Nafion 117 and $1.8{\times}10^{-7}\;cm^2\;min^{-1}$ for AMV. Consequently, a VRB single cell using the prepared membrane showed higher energy efficiency (over 80%) of up to 100 cycles compared to the commercial membranes, Nafion 117 (ca. 58%) and AMV (ca. 70%).

      • Chlorpropamide 2-hydroxylation is catalysed by CYP2C9 and CYP2C19 <i>in vitro</i>: chlorpropamide disposition is influenced by CYP2C9, but not by CYP2C19 genetic polymorphism

        <P>Aims</P><P>We evaluated the involvement of cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms 2C9 and 2C19 in chlorpropamide 2-hydroxylation <I>in vitro</I> and in chlorpropamide disposition <I>in vivo</I>.</P><P>Methods</P><P>To identify CYP isoforms(s) that catalyse 2-hydroxylation of chlorpropamide, the incubation studies were conducted using human liver microsomes and recombinant CYP isoforms. To evaluate whether genetic polymorphisms of CYP2C9 and/or CYP2C19 influence the disposition of chlorpropamide, a single oral dose of 250 mg chlorpropamide was administered to 21 healthy subjects pregenotyped for CYP2C9 and CYP2C19.</P><P>Results</P><P>In human liver microsomal incubation studies, the formation of 2-hydroxychlorpropamide (2-OH-chlorpropamide), a major chlorpropamide metabolite in human, has been best described by a one-enzyme model with estimated <I>K</I><SUB><I>m</I></SUB> and <I>V</I><SUB>max</SUB> of 121.7 ± 19.9 µ<SMALL>M</SMALL> and 16.1 ± 5.0 pmol min<SUP>−1</SUP> mg<SUP>−1</SUP> protein, respectively. In incubation studies using human recombinant CYP isoforms, however, 2-OH-chlorpropamide was formed by both CYP2C9 and CYP2C19 with similar intrinsic clearances (CYP2C9 <I>vs.</I> CYP2C19: 0.26 <I>vs.</I> 0.22 µl min<SUP>−1</SUP> nmol<SUP>−1</SUP> protein). Formation of 2-OH-chlorpropamide in human liver microsomes was significantly inhibited by sulfaphenazole, but not by <I>S</I>-mephenytoin, ketoconazole, quinidine, or furafylline. In <I>in vivo</I> clinical trials, eight subjects with the <I>CYP2C9</I>*<I>1/</I>*<I>3</I> genotype exhibited significantly lower nonrenal clearance [*<I>1/</I>*<I>3 vs.</I>*<I>1/</I>*<I>1</I>: 1.8 ± 0.2 <I>vs.</I> 2.4 ± 0.1 ml h<SUP>−1</SUP> kg<SUP>−1</SUP>, <I>P</I> < 0.05; 95% confidence interval (CI) on the difference 0.2, 1.0] and higher metabolic ratios (of chlorpropamide/2-OH-chlorpropamide in urine: *<I>1/</I>*<I>3 vs.</I>*<I>1/</I>*<I>1</I>: 1.01 ± 0.19 <I>vs.</I> 0.56 ± 0.08, <I>P</I> < 0.05; 95% CI on the difference − 0.9, − 0.1) than did 13 subjects with <I>CYP2C9</I>*<I>1/</I>*<I>1</I> genotype. In contrast, no differences in chlorpropamide pharmacokinetics were observed for subjects with the <I>CYP2C19</I> extensive metabolizer <I>vs.</I> poor metabolizer genotypes.</P><P>Conclusions</P><P>These results suggest that chlorpropamide disposition is principally determined by CYP2C9 activity <I>in vivo</I>, although both CYP2C9 and CYP2C19 have a catalysing activity of chlorpropamide 2-hydroxylation pathway.</P>

        The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual variation of skilled and unskilled people, and to obtain data necessary for skill improvement of effective handball penalty throw. An eye tracker was used to collect eye movements, concentration points, directions, and paths during penalty throws. The results are as follows: 1) For skilled players, the place where they threw and the place where their eyes were focused matched. 2) There is no difference in the presence or absence of eye contact with the goalkeeper.

      • Metallo-β-lactamase 생성 Pseudomonas aeruginosa 및 포도당 비발효그람음성간균의 검출방법에 관한 연구

        연구목적: Metallo-β-lactamse (MBL)는 carbepenem를 포함하는 대부분의 β-lactam 항균제를 가수분해할 수 있으므로 MBL 생성균의 확산은 이들 균에 의한 감염의 치료에 큰 문제를 야기할 수 있다. 따라서 MBL 생성균에 의한 감염의 확산을 막기 위해 이들 균의 조기 검출이 필요하다. 저자들은 MBL 생성균을 검출할 수 있는 세 가지 방법을 PCR 방법과 비교하여 보았다. 재료 및 방법: Imipenem의 MIC가 8 μg/mL 이상인 50개의 포도당 비발효 그람음성 간균을 대상으로 EDTA-double disk synergy test (EDTA-DDS), Etest MBL, Hodge 변법을 시행하였으며 대조 검사로 IMP-1, VIM-1, VIM-2에 대한 PCR을 시행하였다. 결과: 총 50 균주 중 MBL 생성균은 Pseudomonas aeruginosa 1 균주, Alcaligenens xylosxidans 7 균주 등 8 균주(16%)가 검출되었다. 이들 균주는 모두 VIM-2 형이었으며, EDTA-DDS, Etest MBL은 PCR 방법과 100% 일치하였다. Hodge 변법은 8 MBL 생성균주 중 2 균주를 검출하지 못했다. 결론: 50 균주 중 8 균주가 MBL 생성균이었고 모두 VIM-2 형이었다. Etest MBL은 가격이 비싸 검사실에서는 EDTA-DDS가 적당할 것으로 사료된다. Purpose: Because metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) has activity to hydrolysls against most β-lactam drugs, dissemination of MBL producing bacteria may cause problems of treatment of infection by their microorganisms. Early detection or screening for MBLs will contribute to prevent further spread of resistance. Authors compared three MBL detection methods with PCR for MBLs. Materials and Methods: For 50 isolates of g1ucose nonfermentative gram negative bacilli with reduced susceptability against imipenem (MIC≥8 μg/mL), EDTA-double disk synergy (EDTA-DDS), Etest MBL and modified Hodge test were compared with PCR detection method for MBLs. Results: Among 50 isolates of glucose nonfermentative microorganisms, eight MBL producers including a Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 7 Alcaligenes xylosoxidans were detected. Those isolates were VIM-2 producer. The results of EDTA-DDS and Etest MBL completely agreed with PCR for MBL detection. Two isolates among eight MBL Producers were not detected in modified Hodge test. Conclusion: All of MBL producing bacteria were VIM-2 genotype. In conclusion, EDTA-DDS may be useful method for MBL detection in clinical laboratory due to high cost of Etest MBL strip.

        지역사회 거주 노인에서 장애 변화의 예측인자

        Objectives : This study aimed to identify the predictors for change in disability measured by the Korean version of World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule II (WHODAS II-K) m community-dwelling elderly population. Methods : Of 1204 community participants aged 65 years or over, 717 were reevaluated by WHODAS II-K 2 years later. At baseline, information on demographic characteristics (age, gender, living area, marital status, and religion), socioeconomic status (education, type of accommodation, number of rooms, previous occupation, current employment, and social network), and clinical characteristics (number of physical illness, depression by the Korean version of Geriatric Mental State Schedule B3, and cognitive impairment by Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination) were collected. Results : Scores on the WHODAS II-K increased by 17.5 in 2 years. Age (B coefficient 0.52, 95% CI : 0.21~0.84), number of rooms (B coefficient -1.92, 95% CI : -3.53~-0.30), and depression (B coefficient 1.84, 95% CI : 0.43~3.25) were independently significant predictors for change in disability. Conclusion : Change in the level of disability measured by the WHODAS II-K was mainly affected by age, number of rooms, and depression. These results can be useful for the development of community-based health promotion program for the elderly.

        수도권 지역의 연령에 따른 전통 떡류의 이용현황

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the consumption patterns of the Korean traditional rice cakes by general public. Self-administered questionnaires were collected from 511 residents in the Metropolitan area. Data were analysed by t-test, ANOVA and Chi-square. The result of the study can be summarized as follows: Generally, the rice cake was recognized as a "good food" in all age groups. The reasons why they prefer the rice cakes were "It tastes good" and "It has been eaten from the past." The time when they use the rice cake was mostly the holidays and events(or festivities). The female had more experiences than the male in making it. Songpyeon took the first place for them to have experiences to make. The consumption frequencies of rice cake were the more in females than in males. The higher the age, the more frequently they consumed. Injeolmi was the one which was purchased the most frequently. The place that they usually buy from was the rice cake shop around their house. The most important factor considering when they buy it was the taste. The reason why the frequency the rice cakes made for their direct consumption at home is gradually decreasing was "It is troublesome to make", and "It is complicated to make.
