Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 244-254, 1999.-Obesity can be defined as a metabolic disease due to an increased state of fat tissues caused by an imbalance of calorie intake and use. Recently, in Korea by improvement and westernization of food intake, along with decrease in exercise activities, the prevalence of obesity has increased greatly. Our objectives were to study stability and effects of decrease in body fat by administering red ginseng compound preparation (known to have body fat decreasing effects in laboratory animals) to obesity patients on low calorie diets. Changes in weight and body fat were measured while carrying out calorie-restricted diets on patients for 4 weeks, then administering red ginseng compound preparation for another 4 weeks. The patients were 20 people whose BMI were 25kg/㎡ or over and whose percent body fat was also 30% or over when tested by bioelectrical conductivity. 1. Changes in weight were from 70.04kg(base line) to 67.43kg(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 2. In similar sense, BMI decreased from 27.12kg/㎡(base line) to 26.56kg/㎡(after dieting), and further to 26.01kg/㎡ (after taking red ginseng compound preparation). The BMI seemed to decrease significantly compared to the baseline after the use of red ginseng compound. 3. Waist hip ratio was changed from 0.8858(base line) to 0.8728, but it was statistically insignificant. 4. The percent body fat was 35,16%(base line), 33.87%(after dieting), and 31.68%(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 5. Complete blood cell count and blood chemisrty remained unaffected by the administration. 6. In concern to endocrinologic studies, T3 decreased from 118.7 to 98.2ng/dL, and T4 increased from 8.8 to 9.2㎕/ dL. Epinephrine showed a tendency to decreased from 0.27 to 0.25 ng/mL, and norepinephrine increased from 0.39 to 0.44ng/mL. 7. Leptin was not changed. 8. Some patients complained adverse effects; constipation(5 patients, may be due to diet therapy), fatigue (2 patients), pruritus(2 patients), flushing(s patients), dizziness(3 patients) and epigastric discomfort(2 patients). However their symptoms were mild, so medication did not stopped. In conclusion, loss of weight without significant side effects was observed during low calorie diet and red ginseng compound preparation administration. This is thought to be in relation to sympathetic nerve system rather than adrenal gland. Also, further long0term studies should be required, since the observed results were based on short-term changes in weight.

        생쥐 배아의 체외배양시 저농도 산소 환경이 배아 발달에 미치는 영향

        Objective: It is known that mouse embryos before implantation develop in a low oxygen environment of 3- 8% concentration and with antioxidant materials such as vitamins, antioxidant enzymes, ferrous binding proteins, and albumin in follicular and tubal fluids. However, the 20% oxygen culture condition with chemically defined media might be produce an abundance of ROS, and leads to developmental delay or developmental block in vitro. In this study, we attempt to elucidate the relationship between intracellular H2O2 production and embryo development in different oxygen culture conditions of mouse embryos. Methods: Prenuclear embryos from C57BL/CBA Fl hybrid and ICR mouse were cultured in incubators which provided 5% carbon dioxide, 20% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide, 5% oxygen. Measurement of H2O2 level in a embryo was performed with DCHFDA(2,7 -dichlorodihydroflourescein diacetate)and analyzed with Quanti-cell 700, and the number of blastomeres was counted with DAPI( 4, 6'-diamidino-2-phenylindole). Results: Oxygen concentration of the culture medias was significantly higher in the 20% oxygen environment compared to that of 5% oxygen environment. Culture of mice embryos in high oxygen condition leads to high HO concentrations at 2 cell stage and developmental delay or 2-cell block regardless of the strain. But in a 5% oxygen environment, which is similar to in-vivo conditions HO production was suppressed continuously through out culture and development of embryos was definitely improved. Conclusion: These results suggest that there is a difference in the production of ROS or protective mechanism according to the mouse strains and stage of development, and it is thought that in-vitro culture in 5% oxygen environment provides stable in vivo equilibrium but in a 20% oxygen environment there is production of ROS which overcome the protective mechanism which leads to cellular damage and embryo developmental delay.

        사회적 네트워크 유형 별 내향 중심성이 직무 스트레스에 미치는 차별적 영향

        As interdependent tasks have been increasing and the necessity of smooth communication among employees has been emphasized in organizations, scholars and practitioners are interested in the effects of social support from social relationships on job stress. Drawing on a social network perspective, we examined that social ties among organizational members influenced the level of job stress which they experience. We especially expected that the types of social networks in which employees were embedded (task-advice networks, friendship networks, and negative affect networks) were respectively linked to the provision, reception, and absence of social support, which in turn led to differently affecting individual job stress. According to the results of this study based on the survey data from employees in two organizations, the persons who occupied in-degree centrality in friendship networks were more likely to receive social support from the other employees and then their levels of job stress reduced, whereas the employees who were located in in-degree centrality in negative affect networks were less likely to receive social support from the other members, resulting in increasing the level of job stress they experienced. In addition, we hypothesized the U-shaped relationship between in-degree centrality in task-advice networks and individual job stress. In other words, we anticipated that the central persons in task-advice networks to the certain level tended to experience lower levels of job stress by the increased sense of control and self-esteem about themselves, and beyond the optimum level they were likely to experience higher levels of job stress because they were excessively granted the role of providing social support to the others. However, this hypothesis was not supported. This study suggests that the extent of centrality by the types of social networks differently influences the levels of job stress which organizational membersexperience.

        Background: PPL photography would be a quantitative assessment method for the examination of the properties of human skin. In our previous study, the quantitative difference of the light reflected from skin surface could have been analyzed by PPL photography. Objectives: So, we designed this study to improve the technique using various LEDs of different colors. In addition to PPL, in-house skin conductance meter was used to measure the skin hydration for comparison. Methods: A total of 40 healthy subjects were participated in this study. PPL imaging was taken on mid-cheek, volar aspect of forearm and anterior shin, using white and green LED illuminators. In order to assess skin conductance value, we designed our own probe. Results: First of all, as for glossiness on extremities, the L* value was positively correlated(r=0.33417), a* and b* value were correlated negatively(r= -0.32046, -0.33128) under the green illuminator. Skin conductance value was positively correlated with glossiness(r=0.65258). For dryness of extremities, the b* under the green illuminator was positively correlated(r=0.23339) and negatively with skin conductance (r= -0.80447). Skin conductance value itself showed correlations with CIELAB coordinate L* and a* from green light(r=0.24305, -0.22102). Conclusion: In conclusion, analytic PPL image technique combined with LED would be an efficient way to evaluate the properties of human skin and the results implicated the validity of our in-house conductance meter.

        폐렴구균 감염증에서 항생제 내성의 임상적 의미 : Asian Network for Surveillance of Resistant Pathogens(ANSORP) Study

        목적 : 전 세계적으로 폐렴구균의 페니실린을 포함한 β-lactam과 마크로라이드 및 퀴놀론 계열의 항생제에 대한 내성이 급격히 증가하여 임상적으로 문제가 되고 있으나, 시험관내 내성이 실제 임상적 예후에 미치는 영향에 대해서는 아직까지 논란이 되고 있다. 본 연구는 폐렴구균의 항생제 내성률이 높은 아시아 지역에서 항생제 내성이 폐렴구균 감염증의 임상경과에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 시행되었다. 방법 : ANSORP에서 주관한 전향적 임상 연구로서 1999년 11월부터 2001년 8월까지 아시아 지역 11개국의 14개 기관에서 진단된 침습성 폐럼구균 감염증 환자를 대상으로 내성 균주 감염의 위험요인, 임상양상, 예후 등의 임상적 분석을 시행하였다. 결과 : 총 646명 환자의 평균연령은 30.1세(6일-89세)였고, 이전 3개월 내에 항생제 사용력이 있는 환자는 159명(32.4%)이었다. 질환별로는 폐렴이 377예(58.4%)로 가장 많았고, 중이염 67예, 뇌수막염 66예(10.2%), 일차성 균혈증 65예(10.1%)였다. 총 646균주 중 347균주(53.7%)가 페니실린 비감수성(중등도 내성 23.1%, 고도 내성 23.1%)이었고, 페니실린에 대한 MIC_(90)은 0.03㎍/mL에서 4㎍/mL까지의 분포를 보였다. 페니실린 비감수성 균주에 의한 감염증과 차이가 없었다. 페니실린 내성 폐렴구균 폐렴에 의한 사망률은 페니실린 감수성 폐렴구균 폐렴에 의한 사망률과 차이가 없었다(p=0.846). Erythromycin에 대한 고도 내성을 보이는 균주의 비율이 매우 높았으나, 실제 임상상이나 치사율에는 영향을 미치지 않았다(p=0.092). 페니실린 비감수성 폐렴구균에 의한 뇌수막염의 치사률도 감수성 균주에 의한 사망률과 차이가 없었다(p=0.059). 결론 : 본 연구의 결과 페니실린 및 베타 락탐 제제에 대한 시험관 내성은 폐렴구균 폐렴이나 뇌수막염의 임상상이나 치사율에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 내성의 정도와 연관될 것으로 생각되므로, 향후 고도 내성 균주가 증가할 때 추가 검증을 요한다. 아울러 macrolide 및 퀴놀론계 항생제 내성의 임상적 의미에 대한 후속 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다. Background : Despite the widespread emergence of antimicrobial resistance among pneumococcal strains worldwide, clinical implications of in vitro resistance still remain an open question. To evaluate the clinical impact of pneumococcal resistance in Asian countries where the prevalence of pneumococcal resistance was reported to be highest in the world, ANSORP has performed a prospective, multinational surveillance study with cases with invasive pneumococcal diseases in Asian countries. Methods : In vitro susceptibility of pneumococcal isolates was determined by broth microdilution tests with 16 antimicrobial agents. All enrolled cases of pneumococcal infections were analyzed with regard to demographic data, clinical features, risk factors and mortality. Results : A total of 646 patients with pneumococcal infections were enrolled from 14 centers in 12 countries between the period from November 1999 to August 2001. Pneumonia (58.4%) was the most common clinical disease followed by bacteremia (33.4%), otitis media (10.4%), and meningitis (10.2%). Among 646 isolates, 347 (53.7%) were penicillin non-susceptible (intermediate 23.1%, resistant 30.7%). MIG_(90)s for penicillin ranged from 0.03 (India) to 4.0 ㎍/mL (Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Hong Kong). Overall mortality from pneumococcal diseases by penicillin non-susceptible strains was not different from that by susceptible strains. Pneumococcal pneumonia caused by penicillin- or erythromycin-resistant strains showed similar mortality, severity of illness, or complications to that by susceptible strains. Mortality from pneumococcal meningitis caused by penicillin non-susceptible strains was also similar to that by susceptible strains. Conclusion : Data suggest that current situation of in vitro resistance to penicillin or macrolides may not affect the mortality from pneumococal pneumonia or meningitis caused by antibiotic-resistant strains.

        의료방사선은 인간의 질병진료와 예밤에 활용되어 각종 질병으로부터의 적절한 진단 및 의학발전에 중대한 역할을 담당하고 띤다. 또한 인공방사선원중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으며, 방사선원을 이웅한 이득과 손실을 생각쌀 때 피폭선량의 최소화 및 곡률적영향의 최소화를 위해 이득을 최대화하는 노력을 하고 있다. 진단뿐만 아니라 치료에도 사응하고 있는 인공방사선원의 적절한 관리를 위한 조사 및 연구는 국내에서는 아픽까진 실시되지 않았으며, 국외에서는 이미 활발한 조사 덴 연구가 이루어 지 고 있다. 일반적으로 의료기관의 핵의학분야에서 환자의 진단 및 치료에 사용되는 방사성의약품으로는 Tc-99in, Ga-67, 1-131, 71-201 등이 있으며 이를 이용한 방사능측정웅장비 및 치료뭉장비에는 Gamma Camera, 감마선재측기, 베타선계측기, Dose CaTibrator, PET(양전자방출전산화단층촬영장치)등이 있다. 이어 식푿의약품안전청f"서는 핵의학분야의 방사선보건학적 연구를 위해 핵의학분야의 진료와 관련된 인력, 시설, 장비, 방사성의약품의 사응, 핵의학적 진료형태 및 핵의학적 진료장치에 대한 성능관리등에 대해 조사·연구하였다. A nationwide survey was conducted in the Korea in 2001 to determine the facilities available and the level of activity at centres where radionuclide and therapy was practised in 2000. A response rate of 75% indicated that 120 centres were providing radionuclide therapy and diagnosis. About the good treatment of radionuclide using in medical, researched so many country, but not yet in. Generally nuclear medical part use Tc-99m, Ga-67, I-131, Tl-201 in diagnosis and therapy, radiation detector and equipment for therapy use Gamma Camera, beta-counter, Dose Calibrator PET(Positron Emission Tomography). 81% rate of centre has Gamma Camera and 97% rate of use Tc-99m, I-131 radionuclide. In-vitro did more than in-vivo test absolutely. So in KFDA researched in unclear medical part in Man-Power, facilities, equipment use of nuclear medicine, part of diagnosis and diagnosis equipment.

      • 하우스 장미 切花裁培 技術確立에 관한 硏究 : Ⅰ. 新稍生長 및 開花에 대한 溫度 輔光處理 果와 組織培養 技術을 利用한 幼苗 生産 The Effect of Temperature and Supplemental Lighting on Shoot Growth and Flowering of Rose and the Seedling Production used Tissue Culture Technique

        本 硏究는 濟州地域의 冬季 장미 切花裁培를 위한 技術開發의 側面에서 栽培的 品種選拔을 위하여 露地裁培에 대한 可能性을 檢定하며, 土壤과 비배관리를 위한 基礎資料와 組織培養技術을 利用한 優良苗生産技術을 確立하기 위하여 修行하였던바 얻어진 結果는 다음과 같다. 晝夜間의 溫度變化가 심한 環境下에서도 잘適應했던 品種은 'Innocencia'와 'Madelon'이었다. 화경장은 無加溫 비닐하우스가 加溫 유리온실보다 좋았으며, 切花量은 약간 적었지만 濟州道의 西歸浦 地域에서 장미의 冬季 生産을 위한 無加溫 비닐하우스 栽培도 可能한 것으로 나타났다. 加溫과 輔光處理는 開花日數를 10-15일 가량 앞당겼으며 花質과 採花量도 向上시켰지만, 經濟的인 側面에서 볼 때 비닐하우스 無加溫 栽培도 비교적 良好한 結果를 보였다. 共試品種中 無加溫 비닐하우스 輔光栽培에 適合한 轢으로는 'Lorena', 'Dallas', 'Golden Madelion', 그리고 'Carl-red'等 이었다. 장미재배 土壤의 物理性은 孔隙率이 크기 때문에 배수성과 통기성이 장미재배에 적절하였으며, 재배 기간동안 유리온실 토양의 pH, 置換性 Ca, Mg 및 K, 有效燐酸의 함량은 비닐과 露土 토양에 비하여 높게 유지되었다. 不定芽 發生에 대한 基本 배지로는 MS배지 보다 WPM배지가 共試된 品種 모두 월등한 結果를 보였다. 生長點 培養時 0.1-1.0mg/l의 NAA와 2.5-5.0mg/l의 BA 混用處理가 苗의 生産과 生體重 向上에 좋은 結果를 나타냈다. 幼苗의 發根과 根數, 根長 그리고 活着率 모두 1㎖/l IBA處理보다 活性炭 2g/l添加 處理에서 良好하였다. The purpose of this study is to extract useful information for selecting a suitable variety of cultivation for cut flowers of rose. To meet this purpose three different ways of cultivation, such as non-heated and heated cultivations in vinyl house, and outdoor cultivation, were tested in terms of developing cultivation technique for cut flowers of rose during winter period in Cheju island. In addition, the research attempts to obtain basic idea for soil and culture condition and to develop production technique for a superior plantlet by using the technique of tissue culture. After analyzing the results we have reached the following conclusions: 1. 'Inocenia' and 'Madelon' were the most adaptable varieties under the wide temperture changes during day and night. 2. For the flower stem length, the non-heated vinyl house was preferred to the heated glasshouse. 3. It was found that the non-heated vinyl house is possible during winter period in Seogwipo city area. 4. The treatments of heating and supplemental lighting allowed not only to push about 10 to 15 days ahead of the flowering time but also to improve the quality and the amount of flowers. In terms of the economy, however, the treatments of non-heating and supplemental lighting might be preferrable to the one just described. 5. Among the tested cultivars, 'Lorena', 'Madelon', 'Dallas', 'Golden Madelion' and 'Carl-red' were suitable for the cultivation of non-heating and supplemental lighting. 6. Physical properties of the soil in the treatments were suitable for house culture of cut-rose, and pH, available phosphorus, exchangeable Ca, Mg, and K and nitrate concentration of soil in glasshouse were higher than vinylhouse and open field. 7. The results from the test of basic media about the generation of adventitious rooting showed that the WPM medium is better than the MS medium for tested six cultivars. 8. It was identified that the application of 0.1-1.0 mg/l NAA and 2.5-5.0 mg/l BA at the time of meristem culture came out with likable outcomes for plantlet production and improvement of fresh weight. Treatment of 2 g/l activated charcoal is better than 1 mg/l IBA for rooting, root number, root length, and rooting percentage of a plantlet.

        원문 : 좌업 시간과 알코올 섭취가 30대 남자 사무직 근로자의 혈압과 혈관탄성에 미치는 영향

        조봉오, 이인녕, 정균근, 장창현. 좌업 시간과 알코올 섭취가 30대 남자 사무직 근로자의 혈압과 혈관탄성에 미치는 영향. 운동과학, 제23권 3호, 241-248, 2014. 본 연구의 목적은 일과 중 대부분을 좌업근무 형태로 업무를 수행하고, 스트레스로 인해 음주가 잦고, 운동이 부족한 30대 남자 사무직 음주자 15명을 대상으로 좌업 시간과 알코올 섭취가 혈압과 혈관탄성에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 사무직 근로자에게 건강관리에 필요한 정보를 제공하는데 있다. S대학 운동 생리학 실험실에서 사전 인적 사항과 설문을 작성하고, 신장, 체중, 채혈, 혈압, 혈관탄성, BMI를 측정하였다. 알코올 섭취 횟수, 섭취량, 좌업 시간, 그리고 음주 섭취 전과 후 및 시간대별 (10분, 40분, 60분) 혈압과 혈관탄성의 변화를 측정 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1) 평균 좌업시간이 9.87시간, 음주횟수 및 음주량은 월 평균 9.13회와 12.47잔 이였다. 2) 알코올 섭취횟수 및 섭취량에 따른 BMI, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, 혈압과 혈관탄성 비교에서 알코올 섭취횟수에서 좌상지 혈관탄성은 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈다(p<.05). 3) 알코올 섭취 전, 후 비교 분석 결과 우상지와 좌상지의 혈관탄성에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다(p<.05). 4) 알코올 섭취 후 시간대별 우상지 혈관탄성은 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈다(p<.05). 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 좌업 시간이 혈압과 혈관탄성에 미치는 영향은 통계적으로 유의하게 나타나지 않았고, 알코올 섭취는 혈관탄성에 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 이는 직장생활의 스트레스를 음주로 해소하는 경향이 있음을 보여주며 건강에 부정적인 영향을 주고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 신체가 음주에 적응되어 실험 시 섭취한 적은 양(1/2병)은 1회 12.47잔에 비해 혈압과 혈관탄성에 큰 영향을 미치지 못한 것으로 사료된다. The purpose of this study was to examine effects of duration of sedentary office work and alcohol intake on blood pressure and vascular compliance in male subjects who were office workers aged between 30 to 39 and frequently drink alcoholic beverages to cope with their stress without exercising for health. The study was to provide health-related information necessary for white-collar workers. We collected data of demographic information, height, weight, blood sample, blood pressure, vascular compliance, and BMI from 15 subjects in S University`s Exercise Physiology Laboratory, and analyzed the frequency and amount of alcohol intake, duration of sedentary work, and changes in blood pressure and vascular compliance at diffident time points (10, 40, and 60 minutes post drinking) from baseline. I t was found that the average time of sedentary work was 9.87 hours, drinking 9.13 times a month on average, 12.47 glasses of alcohol beverages per drink. In comparison of BMI, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, blood pressure and vascular compliance upon the frequency and amount of alcohol intake, the upper left limb`s vascular compliance had a statistically significant difference (p<.05). In the result of the comparative analysis of pre-and post-drinking, vascular compliance was significantly different in the upper right and left limbs (p<.05). Vascular compliance in the upper right limb after drinking significantly changed (p<.05). As a result, the duration of sedentary work had no statistically significant difference in blood pressure and vascular compliance. T he vascular compliance after drinking h ad a statistically significant difference. This suggested that the result was an index that shows the trend of the office workers releasing their work stress by drinking alcoholic beverages, and that drinking had negative impacts on them. In addition, a small amount of intake (a half bottle) at the test time, after the body was adjusted to drinking, compared with 12.47 glasses per intake, had no great impacts on blood pressure and vascular compliance.

        Real World Experience with Regdanvimab Treatment of Mild-to-Moderate Coronavirus Disease-19 in a COVID-19 Designated Hospital of Korea

        Background Real-world clinical data concerning regdanvimab, a monoclonal antibody treatment for patients with mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), are urgently needed. Here, we describe our experience with regdanvimab. Materials and Methods This retrospective cohort study enrolled high-risk adults with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who were admitted to a dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Korea from March to September 2021. We used multiple logistic regression and propensity score-matching to compare the outcomes of patients who did or did not receive regdanvimab. The primary outcome was in-hospital progression to severe or critical status, or death. Results Of 586 patients eligible for regdanvimab, 256 patients who received regdanvimab and 251 untreated patients were included. The median age was 66 years and 47.5% were men. The most common underlying illnesses were hypertension (53.8%) and diabetes (36.9%). Patients were admitted to the hospital at a median of 2 days after symptom onset; regdanvimab was administered at a median of 3 days after symptom onset. Multivariate analysis indicated that regdanvimab significantly reduced the risk of disease progression during hospitalization [odds ratio (OR): 0.285; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.144 - 0.564]. In a 1:1 propensity score-matched cohort (172 patients in either group), regdanvimab also decreased the risk of progression (OR: 0.162; 95% CI: 0.068 - 0.386). Conclusion In high-risk patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19, regdanvimab decreased the risk of progression to severe COVID-19.         For more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the authers made 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(FU-PGA disks) with 5-fluorouracil and polyglycolic acid, a biodegradable polymer. We inserted the FU-PGA disk into the peritoneal cavites of Sprague-Dawley male rats, the control and three experimental groups; one FU-PGA disk insert group(300mg/kg), two FU-PGA disk insert group(600mg/kg), and three FU-PGA disk insert group(900mg/kg). The control group received a similar number of PGA disk inserts. A pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure the 5-fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, blood, and tissues(liver, kidney and heart) at 24 hours, 72hours and 168 hours after insertion of the FU-PGA disk. Light and electron microscopic studies were done. The results were as follows: 1) The number of white blood cells and platelets decreased after FU-PGA insertion. The degree was proportional to the duration and amounts inserted. The change in the number of red blood cells varied slightly. 2) Light microscopically, slight changes were noted at 168 hours in the 3 disk insert group (900mg/kg). Mild fatty change and hepatocyte degeneration around the central veins of the liver were noted, with vacuolar degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. 3) Electron microscopically,the liver showed focal increases of lipid droplets in the hepatocytes, and irregular nuclear membrane with focal nucleolar segregation of the fibrillar and granular elements. Also the double membranous structure of the hepatocytes and Kupffer cells was widened with bleb formation. The kidney showed wide separation of the nuclear double membrane in the proximal convoluted tubular cells and mesangial cells, with vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the proximal convoluted tubular cells, at 72 hours and 168 hours in the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. The heart showed focal loss of cristae,vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. In conclusion, despite the large amont of FU-PGA inserted, the histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and heart were slight, and consonant with the very low amount of 5-fluorouracil concentrations detected in the liver, kidney and heart. The above results suggest that the FU-PGA composite can serve as a new device for releasing drugs in a controlled manner and easily targeted to intraperitoneal organs. This device can improve the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric cancer.
