In this paper, we propose interband vector quantization of remotely sensed satellite image using edge region compensation. This method classifies each pixel vector considering spectral reflection characteristics of satellite image data. For each class, we perform classified intraband VQ and classified interband VQ to remove intraband and interband redundancies, respectively. In edge region case, edge region is compensated using class information of neighboring blocks and gray value of quantized reference band. Then we perform classsified interband VQ to remove interband redundancy using compensated class information, effectively. Experiments on remotely sensed satellite image show that coding efficiency of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional method.

A novel algorithm is proposed to reduce the blocking artifacts of block-coded images by using block classification and feed forward neuwal network filter in the spatial domain. At first, we classify the block boundaries into smooth and complex regions based on a statistical characteristic of neighborhood blocks. For two classes with blocking artifacts, adaptive inter-block filtering is performed in block boundaries. That is, for smooth region with blocking artifacts, we use the two-layer neural network with error back-propagation algorithm, and for complex region with blocking artifacts, we use the linear interpolation method to preserve the edge information. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better results than the conventional algorithm from both a subjective and an objective viewpoint.

<P>Previously, we reported a hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1 inhibitor LW6 containing an (aryloxyacetylamino)benzoic acid moiety inhibits malate dehydrogenase 2 (MDH2) using a chemical biology approach. Structure–activity relationship studies on a series of (aryloxyacetylamino)benzoic acids identified selective MDH1, MDH2, and dual inhibitors, which were used to study the relationship between MDH enzyme activity and HIF-1 inhibition. We hypothesized that dual inhibition of MDH1 and MDH2 might be a powerful approach to target cancer metabolism and selected methyl-3-(3-(4-(2,4,4-trimethylpentan-2-yl)phenoxy)propanamido)-benzoate (<B>16c</B>) as the most potent dual inhibitor. Kinetic studies revealed that compound <B>16c</B> competitively inhibited MDH1 and MDH2. Compound <B>16c</B> inhibited mitochondrial respiration and hypoxia-induced HIF-1α accumulation. In xenograft assays using HCT116 cells, compound <B>16c</B> demonstrated significant in vivo antitumor efficacy. This finding provides concrete evidence that inhibition of both MDH1 and MDH2 may provide a valuable platform for developing novel therapeutics that target cancer metabolism and tumor growth.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jmcmar/2017/jmcmar.2017.60.issue-20/acs.jmedchem.7b01231/production/images/medium/jm-2017-01231h_0018.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/jm7b01231'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

We proposed a postprocessing algorithm for quantization effects reduction in block coded images using the block classification and adaptive filtering. The proposed method consists of classification, adaptive inter-block filtering, and infra-block filtering. First, each block is classified into one of seven classes based on the characteristics of 8×8 DCT coefficients. Then each block boundary is filtered by adaptive inter-block filters according to the block classification. Finally for blocks which are classified into edge block, infra-block filtering is performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives better results than the conventional methods from both a subjective and an objective viewpoint.
Physical and Chemical Weathering Indices for Biotite Granite and Granitic Weathered Soil in Gyeongju
( Jae-doo Ban ),( Seong-woo Moon ),( Seong-won Lee ),( Joo-gong Lee ),( Yong-seok Seo ) 대한지질공학회 2017 지질공학 Vol.27 No.4
Physical weathering caused by external forces and chemical weathering caused by the decomposition or alteration of constituent materials are the two factors that dominate the mechanical properties of rocks. In this study, a field investigation was undertaken to identify the physical and chemical weathering characteristics of the biotite granite and granitic weathered soils in Gyeongju, South Korea. Samples were collected according to their grade of weathering and subjected to modal analysis, XRD analysis, XRF analysis, physical property tests, particle size distribution tests, and slake durability tests. Modal and XRD analysis identified these rocks as biotite granite; secondary alteration minerals were not observed. Physical property tests and particle size distribution analyses indicate an average porosity of 41.28% and a sand content of > 90 wt.%. These values are somewhat higher than those of granites in general. The results of the slake durability test and XRF analyses show that the physical and chemical weathering indices of the samples vary with the degree of weathering.

<P>This study compared the removal torque between injection molded zirconia implants and titanium implants with resorbable blast media (RBM) surfaces in beagle humeri. Fifteen screw-shaped implants were classified into 3 groups; titanium implant with RBM surface (Group RT), injection molded zirconia implant (Group Zr) and injection molded zirconia implant with sand-blasted surface (Group ZrS). Implants were inserted into beagle humeri. After 12 weeks, removal torque values were measured. The Zr group has a slightly higher removal torque value than the RT and ZrS groups but there were no significant differences among groups. Zirconia implants shows a similar removal torque to RBM titanium implants. This in vivo study showed injection molded zirconia implants could be an alternative to RBM titanium implants in terms of removal torque.</P>
