      • A Basic Study on Leaf and Stem Production of Angelica acutiloba

        This study was conducted to develop effective production system in greenhouse for leaves and stems of Angelica acutiloba by using connect pots in 2003 and 2004. Seed germination rate and plant biomass of Angelica acutiloba collected in 2004 were higher than those harvested in 2003. Germination rate of Angelica acutiloba seeds collected in 2003 was 10%, while germination rate of seeds collected in 2004 was above 90%. Especially, plant growth and yield of Angelica acutiloba grown in connect pots sized with 4×4×5cm(length×width×height) were the highest. These results indicate that leaf and stem production of Angelica acutiloba can be improved by using connect pots and optimizing seed collecting time in greenhouse.

      • Effect of Storage Condition on Yield and Quality of Angelica acutiloba Radix

        To develop an optimal storage method of root of Angelica acutiloba Radix, which has been grown as major herbal medicine material to be cultivated, root of Angelica acutiloba Radix, was stored for 10 months with different packing materials and sealing methods. The loss in dry weight as influenced by packing materials and sealing methods was the lowest at vacuum packing and followed by complete sealing methods with transparent polyethylene film. The ratio of root rot during the storage period was not significantly different between packing materials but was significantly different between sealing conditions. In conclusion, vacuum packing and complete sealing with polyethylene film appears to be most optimal for storage of Angelica acutiloba Radix.

        백서의 원위부 피편에 동맥유입의 중요성에 관한 실험적 연구

        Microsurgery and myocutaneous flap have been developed recently for wide employment in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Therefore, the delay procedure has been declined in its use recently, because it has many difficult problems. If the flap is longer and larger, it should be delayed for complete survival, but delay requires considerable time. Therefore, as a substitute for delay, vascular anastomosis in the distal part of a flap will theoretically give the same effect. In this study, we investigated the importance of arterial inflow in the distal side of a flap in rats. The experiment was done in 3 different groups according to the design of flaps and in each group 3 subgroups were made. In A flap, the superficial epigastric artery was preserved or anastomosis. In V flap. the superficial epigastric vein was preserved or anastomosis. In C flap, as a control flap, both artery and vein were severed. In result, A flaps in all 3 groups were completely survived. Both V and C flaps in all 3 groups were showed distal necrosis. But C flaps were showed more necrosis than V flaps. In conclusion, we suggest the possibility that a large flap may be transposed in one stage with vascular anastomosis in the distal part-preferably artery and vein, or artery only.

      • 충전층 반응기에서 전분의 고정화 동시당화발효법에 의한 ETHANOL제조

        Kinetic data of immobilized Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Zymomonas mobilis, and S. cerevisiae-Z. mobilis with amylase from Aspergillus shirousamii(SimultaneousSaccharification-Fermentation of starch) in packed bed reactor were investigated with 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% water-soluble starch solution at 30 ℃ and initial pH 5.0. For the comparison of ethanol productivity, Z mobilis ATCC 10988, S. cerevisiae ATCC 26603, and dual organisms(Z. mobilis-S. cerevisiae) were immobilized with 3%[W/V] agar-agar gel respectively on the styrofoam bead. The results were that the volumetric ethanol productivity of dual organisms was better than that of Z. mobilis and of S. cerevisiae. And the volumetric ethanol productivity of 25% soluble starch solution was better than that of the others.

        이유백서에서 교근절제후 하악과두의 면역조직화학적 연구

        The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was any correlation between temporomandibular joint dysfunction and structure of the mandibular condyle. Weanling rats had their masseter muscles resected and immunohstochemical findings were observed with a light microscope. The results obtained were as follows: 1.The condylar cartilage region was divided into articular,proliferating,cartilage cell and hypertrophic cell layers according to cell morphology. 2.In light microscopic views,the proliferating and cartilage cell layers of the experimental group decreased gradually and at the 8th week significantly. 3.In immunohistochemical staining for type Ⅰand Ⅱ collagen,a reaction was detected in the lower part of proliferating cell and cartilage cell layers.In the cartilage cell layers,a stronger cellular reaction was present.Immunohistochemical staining for type Ⅱ collagen reacted more strongly than that Ⅰ collagen. 4.In immunohistochemical staining for proteoglycan,the staining of the experimental group resembled the control group and gradually showed a weak reaction.The proliferating and cartilage cell layers reacted more strongly then hypertrophic cell layer. 5.In immunohistochemical staining for proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA),the strong reaction was detected in the nucleus of the proliferating cell layer both in control and experimental groups.But the thickness of the proliferating layer decreased in experimental group,consequently the reaction of the experimental group was reduced more than that of the control group.

        다양한 광원에 의한 광중합형 수복물질의 미세경도에 관한 연구

        이번 연구의 목적은 청색광을 방출하는 다이오드(LED) 광중합기(FreeLight2, L.E.Demetron Ⅰ, Ultra-Lume 5)가 3가지의 레진재료들 (Z250, Point 4, Dyract AP)의 미세경도에 미치는 영향을 평가하고 그들의 최적 중합시간을 찾는 것이다. 표본들은 각각의 복합체에 대하여 아크릴릭 몰드(2.0mm×3mm)를 사용하여 만들었다. 모든 표본들은 평평한 유리판위에 Mylar strip을 위치시킨 후 제작되었다. 몰드에 복합체가 위치된 후 또다른 Mylar strip으로 덮고 유리판으로 가볍게 압력을 가하였다. 광조사 시간은 Elipar TriLight은 40초, Elipar FreeLight 2, L.E.Demetron I, Ultra-Lume 5는 각각 5,10,20,40초씩으로 하였으며 평균 경도값은 각각의 그룹에서 상층과 하층을 사용하여 계산했다. 결과의 통계적 유의성을 위해 ANOVA와 Sheffe's test를 사용하였다. FreeLight 2. Ultra-Lume 5, and L.E.Dementron Ⅰ는 대조군인 할로rps 광중합 40초에 비교하여 Point 4를 20초에 중합시킬수 있었다. FreeLight 2dhk L.E.DemetronⅠ는 대조군인 40초의 할로겐 광중합에 비교하여 Dyract AP를 10초에 중합시킬수 있었다. 이번 연구에서 사용된 LED 광중합기는 통상적으로 이용되는 할로겐 광중합기와 비교시 절반이하의 조사시간으로도 적절한 미세 경도를 얻을 수 있었다. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of blue light emitting diode (LED) Light Curing Units(FreeLight 2, L.E.Demetron Ⅰ,Ultra-Lume 5) on the microhardness of three resin composites (Z250, Point 4, Dyract AP) and to determine their optimal curing time. Samples were made using acrylic molds (2.0mm x 3mm) of each composite. All samples were prepared over a Mylar strip placed on a flat glass surface. After composite placement on the molds. the top surface was covered with another Mylar strip and a glass slab was gently pressed over it. The times of irradiation were as follows: Elipar TriLight, 40s; Elipar FreeLight 2, L.E.Dementron I, and Ultra-Lume 5, 10s, 20s, 40s, respectively. Mean hardness values were calculated at the top and bottom for each group. ANOVA and Sheffe's test were used to evaluate the statistical significance of the results. Results showed that FreeLight 2. Ultra-Lume 5, and L.E.Demetron I were able to polymerize point 4 in 20 seconds to a degree equal to that of the halogen control at 40 seconds. FreeLight 2 and L.E.Demetron I were able to polymerize Z250 in 10 seconds to a degree equal to that of the haogen control at 20 seconds. FreeLight 2 and L.E.Demetron I were able to polymerize Dyract AP in 10 seconds to a degree equal to that of the halogen control at 40seconds. The commercially available LED curing lights used in this study showed an adequate microhardness with less than half of the exposure time of a halogen curing unit.

        응급의료센터의 단기입원치료실 활용경험

        Overcrowding of emergency department is a serious and growing problem at St. Mary's Hospital. This has motivated the development of short-stay unit(SSU) as an alternative ward to routine hospital admission and ED discharge. In our hospital a SSU begun to admit patients in January 6, 1997. The SSU received 247 patients from the ED during the eight month interval(January 6, 1997 to August 31, 1997). To examine the utilization of the SSU in ED, we retrospectively analyzed 247 patients admitted in SSU from the ED, and compared the average hours per patient with acute gastroenteritis spent in the ED during the 2-month intervals before(July-August 1996) and after(July-August 1997) the establishment of the SSU. The following results were obtained; 1. The total patients consist of EM 92(37.2%), GS 48(19.4%), IM 24(9.7%), PS 21(8.5%), OS 20(8.1%), OBGY 14(5.7%) and others 28(11.3%) 2. The results of EM patients admitted in SSU from ED 1) Sex ratio of male to female was 1:1.1 and the mean age was 37.3±16years 2) In diagnosis, acute gastroenteritis was 29 cases(31.5%), multiple contusion 14 cases(15.2%), drug intoxication 12 cases(13%), limb laceration 6 cases(6.5%), tendon rupture of hand 6 cases(6.5%), and others 19 cases(20.6). 3) Mean length of stay in ED was 9.18 hours. 4) Among 92 patients to the SSU, 79 patients(85.9%) were discharged, 11 patients(11.9%) formally admitted to hospital and 2 patients(2.2%) transferred to otherhospital. The mean hospital stay time of the patients admitted to SSU was 2.6 days. 3. There was a significant reduction in the average stay time spent in the ED by treat-and-releasing patients with acute gastroenteritis after the establishment of the SSU(from 14.65±9.6 to 7.52±5.4 hr/patient, p<0.001). Conclusively, the establishment of the SSU can shorten the average stay time that treat-and-releasing patients spend in the ED, and reduce the number of admitted patients waiting in the ED.

        심폐소생술후 혼수상태의 환자에서 체성감각유발전위의 예후 예측인자로서의 유용도

        Background: The improved technique for cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) has resulted in the survival of many patients who experienced cardiac arrest. However, mortality in resuscitated patients is high, and the survival rate without brain damage is very low. Various neurological examination models, neuro-imaging techniques, electrophysiological procedures, and biochemical tests have been studied with respect to the detection of cerebral damage and outcome, but an early, reliable prediction of individual outcomes is still uncertain. Methods: We studied twenty patients who had been in a coma for more than 24 hours after CPR, Somatosensory evoked potentials(SEP) were measured within the first three days after CPR. Results: Of the twenty patients, seven patients(35%) had a good outcome, and thirteen patients(65%) had a bad outcome. Of the eleven patients with loss of the cortical evoked potential's N2O peak, all had a bad outcome. Conclusion: SEPs are of great benefit in prognostic evaluation after CPR.

        Air Rotor Stripping with Essix Anterior Anchor를 이용한 교정치료

        Air turbine handpiece를 사용하여 치간 법량질을 삭제하는 Air-rotor stripping 술식은 악궁확장이나 발치 술식에 대한 대체방안으로써 arch length discrepancy를 해결할 수 있는 효과적인 접근법으로 시료된다. Conventional interproximal stripping using abrasive strips is normally limited to the anterior teeth. The strips must be forced between the contact points of the teeth creating patient discomfort and the risk of cutting gingival tissue. Air-rotor stripping (ARS) with Essix anterior anchor enables the clinician to remove a precise amount of interproximal enamel to create space, primarily in the buccal quadrants, for aligning or retracting teeth. In selected cases, ARS can resolve significant differences in ratios of tooth size to arch length, and the technique can become an alternative to extraction or expansion. ARS can create substantially more space than that is usually obtained by conventional interproximal stripping, and it can be done at any time during treatment without discomfort to the patient and without adversely affecting the function of the dentition, interocclusal relations, or tooth form.
