Enhancing Performance of 1-aminopyrene Light-Emitting Diodes via Hybridization with ZnO Quantum Dots
Vol.31 No.4
In this study, a pyrene-core single molecule with amino (-NH2) functional group material was hybridized using ZnO quantum dots (QDs). The suppressed performance of the 1-aminopyrene (1-PyNH2) single molecule as an emissive layer (EML) in light-emittingdiodes (LEDs) was exploited by adopting the ZnO@1-PyNH2 core–shell structure. Unlike pristine 1-PyNH2 molecules, the ZnO@1- PyNH2 hybrid QDs formed energy proximity levels that enabled charge transfer. This result can be interpreted as an improvement insurface roughness. The uniform and homogeneous EML alleviates dark-spot degradation. Moreover, LEDs with the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TFB/EML/TPBi/LiF/Al configuration were fabricated to evaluate the performance of two emissive materials, where pristine-1-PyNH2molecules and ZnO@1-PyNH2 QDs were used as the EML materials to verify the improvement in electrical characteristics. The ZnO@1-PyNH2 LEDs exhibited blue luminescence at 443 nm (FWHM = 49 nm), with a turn-on voltage of 4 V, maximum luminance of 1500 cd/m2 , maximum luminous efficiency of 0.66 cd/A, and power efficiency of 0.41 lm/W.
Analysis and experiments of a novel synchronous PM planar motor with minimized cogging force
2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.11
We deal with analysis and experiments of a novel moving-coil-type synchronous permanent magnet planar motor (SPMPM) with reduced cogging force. Our previous study assumed that the equation of magnetic flux existing between a permanent magnet (PM) and core was a second-order polynomial, and the minimum cogging force was theoretically and geometrically calculated without FE analysis. In this paper, the cogging force of SPMPM with an iron core is calculated exactly using geometrical factors, which are desired for determining the magnetic flux density. The analytical results of the cogging force using the factors agree well with those obtained by FE analysis and experiment. Several methods for reducing the cogging force of the SPMPM, such as separation and arrangement of the iron core, addition of an extra core, and addition of auxiliary core teeth, are introduced in this paper. Velocity control experiments of the SPMPM with modified and unmodified cores are carried out and the results are compared with each other. The velocity ripple of SPMPM with a modified core is much smaller than that of SPMPM with an unmodified core.

Immunoglobulin (Ig) G4-related disease is a recently recognized systemic fibroinflammatory condition characterized by a lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate rich in IgG4-positive plasma cells with elevated circulating levels of IgG4. The disease can either be localized to one or two organs, or present as diffuse multi-organ disease. Furthermore, lesions in different organs can present simultaneously or metachronously. In the pulmonary manefestations, lesions associated with IgG4-related disease have been described in the lung parenchyma, airways and pleura, as well as the mediastinum. We report a case of IgG4-related disease presenting as massive pleural effusion and thrombophlebitis.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a transient systolic and diastolic left ventricular dysfunction that presents several wall-motion abnormalities, while the coronary artery shows normal findings. Because patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy present with symptoms similar to acute coronary syndrome, the initial diagnosis and treatment are often difficult. The condition is often precipitated by acute emotional or physical stress and frequently occurs in postmenopausal women. Takotsubo cardiomyopathy may also occur in the perioperative period after cardiac and noncardiac surgery; surgery-associated Takotsubo cardiomyopathy reportedly accounts for 3%–23% of all cases. Of these perioperative cases, cardiothoracic surgery accounted for 16%. However, few cases have been reported in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and managed with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). We report a case of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy managed with ECMO in a patient in the intensive care unit after mitral valve replacement.
