Bernard Malamud's fourth novel, The Fixer, is a work of high literary intent, for all the themes which had introduced in his earlier works, some of the most significant are the search for a new life, the prison motif, the necessity for involvement, the value of suffering, the scapegoat or orphan motif, etc., were refined and reworked in this books. But in my view, one of the most significant themes here is $quot;the dream of freedom$quot; achieved by the protagonist, Yakov Bok, at the end of it by the dream and hallucination technique. In his search for the increased opportunity outside of the prison-like confines of shtetl, his native village, Yakov Bok foolishly hides his Jewish identity and denies their God. For example, he shaved off his beard, changed his name to a Russian and threw his bag of prayer things into the Dnieper. So, not long after he had arrived in kiev the city of the anti-Semites, he was arrested and charged with ritual murder of a Christian boy. Inside the actual prison, by refusing to confess and betray Russian Jewry, he accepts responsibility for the Jewish community and becomes actively involved in the fate of his people. And he also accepts his childless, delinquent wife, and her child as his own. It brings us to the humanity in Malamud. But, above all, Malamud's greatness in this book is attributed to his most serious touch of freedom, the everlasing ideal of human race. We realize that Yakov becomes a brave freeman if we focuses on his last vision, $quot;If the state acts in ways that are abhorrent to human nature it's the lesser evil to destory it. Death to the anti-Semites! Long live revolution! Long live liberty!$quot;

이 연구는 아동ㆍ청소년 인권지표를 산출하여 우리나라 아동ㆍ청소년의 전반적인 인권 현황을 파악할 수 있는 객관적인 자료를 제공하고, 아동ㆍ청소년 인권 환경의 종합적ㆍ체계적인 모니터링에 기여하고자 「국제기준대비 한국 아동ㆍ청소년 인권수준 연구」(2006-2010)의 후속연구로 2011년부터 2016년까지 6개년 연구로 기획되었다. 이 연구의 정책 활용도를 높이기 위하여 1차년도인 2011년에는 「국제기준대비 한국 아동ㆍ청소년 인권수준 연구」에서 개발한 기존의 지표체계를 유엔아동권리협약 정기보고서 작성 지침의 클러스터 체계를 기반으로 수정하였다. 정기보고서 작성지침의 클러스터 중 「협약 이행을 위한 일반 조치」, 「아동의 정의」, 「일반 원칙」과 관련된 3개 클러스터를 제외한 「시민적 권리와 자유」, 「가정환경과 대안양육」, 「장애, 기초적 보건과 복지」, 「교육, 여가 및 문화적 활동」, 「특별보호 조치」의 5개 클러스터를 새로운 지표체계의 영역으로 삼았으며, 새로운 지표체계에 따라 아동ㆍ청소년 인권지표를 산출하고 분석하여 아동ㆍ청소년 인권 관련 정책의 문제점을 보완ㆍ검토ㆍ개선할 수 있는 정책적 발전방향을 제시하였다. 이 연구의 보고서는 「한국 아동ㆍ청소년 인권실태 연구 Ⅰ」과 「한국 아동ㆍ청소년 인권실태 연구 Ⅰ : 2011 아동청소년인권실태조사 통계」의 2권으로 구성하였다. 「한국 아동ㆍ청소년 인권실태 연구 Ⅰ」에서는 새로운 인권지표체계에 따라 지표 결과를 분석하고 해석하였으며, 지표의 하위영역별로 아동ㆍ청소년의 인권신장을 위한 정책적 시사점을 제언하였고, 「한국 아동ㆍ청소년 인권실태 연구 Ⅰ : 2011 아동청소년인권실태조사통계」에는 이 연구의 일환으로 전국의 초등학교 4학년-6학년생, 중학생 및 고등학생 9,297명을 대상으로 실시된 「아동청소년인권실태조사」(국가승인통계, 제40201호)의 개요 및 표본설계, 결과표를 제시하였다. 정책제언에서는 이 연구의 궁극적 목적인 아동ㆍ청소년의 인권 상황을 개선하기 위하여 향후 모니터링이 어떻게 추진되어야 하는지를 모색하였다. 주로 중앙부처의 아동ㆍ청소년정책 총괄ㆍ조정기능까지를 포함하는 넓은 의미에서의 아동ㆍ청소년 권리 모니터링과 관련된 정책들이며, 이를 단기 추진과제와 중장기 추진과제로 나누어 제시하였다. The purposes of this study are to provide objective data that can show the status of children’s and youth’s rights in Korea and to contribute to the provision of an integrated and systematic monitoring mechanism of children’s and youth’s rights conditions. First of all, we modified the indicator system based on the clusters system of UNCRC. Among the 8 clusters, this study defined 5 clusters for 「civil rights and freedoms」, 「family environment and alternative care」, 「disability, basic health and welfare」, 「education, leisure, and cultural activities」, and 「special protection measures」 as the scope of the new indicator system. We analyzed the current status of children’s and youth’s rights by the new indicator system and we suggested policy recommendations to improve the children’s and youth’s rights policy. This study consists of 2 reports: 「The study on the current status of Korean children’s and youth’s rights Ⅰ」 and 「The study on the current status of Korean children’s and youth’s rights Ⅰ : 2011 statistics of the survey on rights of the children & youths」. The first report analyzed the indicators and the second report presented result tables of 「The survey on rights of the children & youths」 (National Statistics, No. 40201). We articulated policy recommendation on how to implement future monitoring to promote children’s and youth’s rights. They are dealing with children’s and youth’s rights monitoring system, including central government’s role of directing and coordinating the policy.

감마선 폭발의 초기관측을 위한 Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) 프로젝트의 현황

감마선폭발 (Gamma Ray Burst) 사건에서 아직 관측이 안되고 있는 초기 방출 광자에 대한 연구를 위하여 Ultra Fast Flash Observatory (UFFO) 인공위성 프로젝트가 제안되었다. 이 탑재체의 주요 기기로써, 감마선 폭발의 위치를 측정하기 위하여 coded mask 기반의 X-ray 광시야각 망원경인 UFFO Burst Alert X-ray Trigger Telescope (UBAT)와 감마선 폭발의 자외선 및 가시광 초기 후광관측을 위한 Slewing Mirror Telescope (SMT)가 있다. UFFO 프로젝트는 한국이 주도하고 미국, 대만, 러시아, 덴마크, 스페인, 프랑스, 노르웨이, 폴란드가 참여하는 9개국 국제공동연구이며, 2011년 11월 UFFO pathfinder가 러시아 인공위성인 Lomonosov에 실려 발사될 예정이다. 차세대 UFFO-100는 2015년 발사 목표로 연구가 시작되고 있다. UFFO pathfinder의 현재 진행상황과 가능한 연구에 대하여 논의한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine cross-validity and reliability of the stress response scale by Lim & Eto(1998). The stress response scale consists of 22 subscales of 65 items for lugh school students. Three hundred eight high school students completed the stress response scale, and 116 students among them completed the same scale in one month to examine the test-retest reliability of the scale. As results of test-retest, reliability of subscales of the stress response scale ranged form .49 to .81 and 3 integrated scales were .78, .74 and .73. And, confirmatory factor analyses were applied to the data for cross-validation of the scale. The results indicated that the stress response scale has enough high reliability and validity.

초고에너지 우주선 관측을 위한 JEM-EUSO 프로젝트의 진행 현황

JEM-EUSO (Extreme Universe Space Observatory on-board the Japanese Experiment Module)는 국제우주정거장(International Space Station)의 일본 실험 모듈인 'KIBO'에 우주 망원경을 설치하여, 100 EeV이상의 초고에너지 우주선 관측을 수행함으로써, 초고에너지의 스펙트럼, 구성성분과 기원을 연구하는 국제공동연구 프로젝트이다. 구경 2.5 m로 60도의 광시야각을 가지는 대형 굴절 망원경을 통해서, 지구 대기에 우주선 shower로부터 발생한 형광 신호를 관측하려고 한다. 이 프로젝트는 2016~2017년에 발사되어, 5년 이상의 임무 수행을 목표로 하고 있으며, 그 전단계로 Prototype 시스템을 가지고 지상실험인 EUSO-TA와 고도 40 km에서 수행할 EUSO-Balloon실험을 준비하고 있다. 먼저, 망원경의 prototype을 2012년 12월쯤 미국 유타에 있는 Telescope Array(TA) 실험에 설치하여 우주선 또는 임의로 인가한 광원에 의해서 생성된 shower를 TA의 Fluorescence Detector와 함께 측정하여, 시스템 calibration과 더불어 지상에 검출된 우주선을 연구할 계획이다. 그 이듬해인 2013년 여름에는 Balloon에 망원경의 Engineering model을 실어서, 대기고도 40 km아래에서 우주선에 의해 생성되는 shower를 개발한 트리거 시스템을 통해서 검출하고, 대기권에 존재하는 UV background 광원들을 측정하여 우주선을 연구할 예정이다. 한국 그룹은 JEM-EUSO을 위해서 개발한 디지털 신호처리 및 트리거 장치의 제작 중에 있으며, 위의 실험들을 위해 망원경과 함께 조립하여 테스트를 수행할 계획이다.
