외국인 유학생의 대학도서관 이용행태 및 만족도 연구 : 계명대학교의 사례를 중심으로
본 연구는 외국인 유학생의 대학도서관 이용행태 및 이용만족도를 조사하기 위하여 계명대학교에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생 중 대학도서관을 이용한 경험이 있는 유학생을 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 설문지를 구성 및 작성하여 예비 조사를 실시하였으며, 2016년 3월 28일부터 4월 8일까지 약 2주간에 걸쳐 134부를 배부 및 회수하였다. 유효한 132부를 최종 분석에 사용하였으며, 통계적 분석을 위하여 SPSS 23.0 통계 프로그램을 사용하였다. 연구의 분석 결과를 종합해 보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 외국인 유학생의 도서관 이용행태 분석을 통해, 대학도서관을 처음 이용하게 된 경로를 ‘친구나 교수 등 주변인물을 통해 이용하게 되었다’는 응답이 가장 많아 주변 인물을 통한 영향이 큰 것을 알 수 있다. 대학도서관 월 이용 빈도에서 평균 주 1회 정도 이용하는 것으로 나타났으며, 1회 방문 시 이용 시간은 평균 2시간 이하인 것으로 분석되었다. 또, 외국인 유학생들의 대학도서관 이용의 주된 목적은 ‘자료이용 및 대출․반납’과 ‘열람실․스터디룸 등 시설 이용’이라고 응답한 이용자가 가장 많았다. 둘째, 외국인 유학생의 서비스 품질에 대한 이용자 만족도에서는 ‘직원의 친절한 태도’와 ‘직원의 문제 해결의 신속성’항목이 가장 높게 측정되었다. 반면, ‘외국어 안내자료’, ‘다양한 언어 자료’, ‘직원의 외국어 구사 능력’, ‘시설 및 장비의 외국어 안내’ 등 외국어와 관련 있는 항목은 다른 항목에 비해 낮게 측정되었다. 셋째, 만족도 결과에서는 대학도서관의 시설 및 장비에 대한 만족도가 가장 높았으며, 대학도서관의 충성도는 평균값이 4.0 이상으로 매우 높게 측정되어, 대학도서관의 재이용 의도 및 추천의지가 매우 강한 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 설문의 타당도와 신뢰도를 알아보기 위하여, 요인분석과 신뢰도분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 도서관의 자국어 서비스, 도서관 이용의 편리성, 시설 및 자료의 다양성과 최신성, 도서관 직원 서비스 4개 요인으로 추출되었다. 4개의 요인이 전체 변량의 72.8%를 설명하고 있으므로 타당도에는 문제가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 신뢰도분석 결과는 Cronbach’s α계수 값이 0.8 이상으로 높게 측정되었다. 대학도서관은 외국인 유학생들을 대상으로 하는 서비스의 필요성을 인식하고 있으나, 외국인 유학생을 전담하는 부서나 전담사서를 배치하는 것은 현재로써는 마련되기 쉽지 않은 것이 사실이다. 하지만 국제화시대에 맞춰 늘어나는 외국인 유학생을 위하여 정보와 자원을 제공하여 이용을 활성화 시키고, 나아가 외국인 유학생들의 대학생활과 학업을 수행하는데 중심역할을 할 수 있도록 다양한 서비스를 개발하고 실행해 나가야 할 것이다. 이 연구는 계명대학교의 대학도서관을 이용한 경험이 있는 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 대학도서관의 이용행태 및 만족도에 대하여 조사하였다. 특정지역으로 제한된 표본에 의한 조사방법으로 연구결과를 일반화하기에는 한계가 있으며, 전국의 대학도서관의 외국인 유학생의 이용행태 및 이용 만족도 전체로 일반화하는 데는 한계점이 있을 것이다. It is important that university library services are offered to all students regardless of the students' ethnicity and background. Due to the increasing number of international students attending Korean universities, university libraries should investigate whether international students are receiving adequate and satisfactory library services. To this end, this study investigated the behavior and satisfaction with the use of the library in relation to international students, focusing on the case of Keimyung University. To conduct this study, we surveyed 134 international students who attended Keimyung University from March 28th, 2016 to April 8th, 2016. The result was analyzed using the statistical software SPSS 23.0 and is summarized as follows. First, in regards to the use of library, the result revealed that international students were mainly influenced by their close affiliates, such as friends and professors. In terms of frequency and the purpose of visiting the library, the result indicated that the students used the library once a week and stayed for less than 2 hours per visit on average, and that the students visited the university library mostly to find books, to borrow books, and to use facilities such as reading-rooms or study-rooms. Second, the result indicated that the surveyed students felt that library staff members were courteous and responsive to their concerns. Thus, the students' responses to the staff members of the library were surprisingly positive. Third, the result indicated that the respondents were extremely satisfied with library facilities and devices. The survey showed international students' strong intention to reuse the university library and to recommend the library services to others ― scores were slightly higher than 4.0 out of 5.0. Finally, factor and reliability analyses were conducted in order to check the validity and credibility of this survey. As a result of the analyses, the following four major factors that influence the satisfaction with library uses were identified: 1) foreign language services in the library, 2) convenience of using the library, 3) diversity and up-to-date availability of materials and facilities, and 4) library staff. These four factors appear to be credible due to the fact that they represent 72.8% of all variables and the value of Cronbach’s alpha is 0.8. As a whole, the findings of this study suggested the areas that Dongsan Library needs to pay close attention to for the international students who are currently attending Keimyung Unviersity. Since this study focused on Keimyung Unviersity’s Dongsan Library, investigating the international students' behavior and satisfaction in relation to other university libraries in Korea might be useful in order to generalize some of the findings reported in this study. Investigating the major factors that influence international students' use of a library should be seen as an initial step toward improving existing university library services. Based on this type of study, we believe university libraries will be able to offer more specialized and diversified library programs and services for international students in Korea.
