The accidents may be one of the major health problems and motor vehicle accidents are the most serious one of them. The study is aimed to analyze the status of the death and injury due to motor vehicle accidents as well as the general traffic conditions in Korea. And the authors have used the data and records of the accidents reported from the related administrative agencies and the automobile insurance company. The findings are summarized as follows: Ⅰ. As of the end of 1982 there are 646,996 motor vehicles and about 2.6 million people having driver's licence in Korea. Ⅱ. Traffic accidents marked 93.3% cases and 93.5% of casualties of those due to all types of accidents. Ⅲ. 359.1 motor vehicle accidents occurred, 15.5 persons died and 332.1 were injured from the accidents the rate per 100,000 people in 1982. Ⅳ. It has noticed that the fatality rate in Seoul and Pusan Taegu City (2.7% respectively) is lower than that in other areas of the country (6.0%) Ⅴ. The 46.199 injunes who were compensated from the Korean Automobile Insurance Company have been cared medical services for 17.8 days on the average. Ⅵ. In Korea it is very serious with the highest rate of motor vehicle accidents beyond comparison to the other developed countries, especially in the death rate to the given vehicles.

The aim of this paper is to study on charateristic features of elementray English education to set sail as a regular subject in the elementary school curricula beginning with coming 1997. Another aim is to check the social trend to expect too much from elementary English education or to be unduly pessimistic about it, and to check it from straying off its due course into a wrong one. The study of the characteristic features is conducted from the sides of hunanity education, efficiency in acquiring practical language skills, and the components of elemntrary English education. This study shows that elementary English education is fundamentally different from that of middle school. Today, it is a common idea among people that there is little difference between the two except that the starting age of learnign English is set several years in advance, which actually means no or little differences between the two. And it is my belief that this study will disperse this sort of misunderstanding among people and that it will give them fairly good pictures of distinctive features of elementary English education. My eager desire is that elementary English education will make a good start in the popular support of the nation and will be taking sound and strong root in the Korean soil striving for rapid gloverization.

Mg^2+ 의존형 Adenosine Diphosphoribose Pyrophosphatase의 Mg^2+ 비의존형으로의 전환

ADP-ribose Pyrophosphatase catalyze the hydrolysis of adenosine diphosphate ribose(ADP-ribose) to AMP and robose 5-phosphate were purified and characterized. ADP-ribose pyrophosphatase from liver cytosol was purified 7200-fold to the specitic activity of 4558 μmol/hr.mg protein by acid treatment, adsorption to calcium phosphate gel, Sephadex G-150 gel filtration, DEAE-ch-ronatography and isoelectric focusing. ADP-ribose Pyrophosphatase purified from hepatic cytosol was converted to Mg^2+ -dependent ADP-ribose pyrophosphatase and converted Mg^2+ -independent form were 74,000 and over 400,000 respectively as determined by gel filtrantion on Sephadex G-150, suggesting that ADP-ribose pyrophosphatase in converted to Mg^2+ -independent form through polymerization.

Foramen magnum rumors are rare. It is difficult to diagnose because of bizarre clinical course. We report a case of foramen magnum meningioma. A 32 year old man complained of quadriparesis without sensory change. The brain MRI disclosed foramen magnum tumor compressing lower medulla and upper cervical cord. Suboccipital craniectomy and total laminectomy in the atlas and subtotal laminectomy in the axis was performed and then removed the mass, totally. The patient was improved completely.

호머의 서사시 「오디세이」의 주인공과는 달리 제임스 조이스의 소설 『율리시즈」에 등장하는 남자 주인공 레오폴드 블룸은 통상적으로 여성과 연관되는 여러 가지 특성들을 보여 준다. 이러한 차이는 조이스의 "의사 영웅시적"(mock-heroic)인 관점을 반영할 뿐 아니라 현대적인 주인공에 대한 개념을 재정립하려는 작가의 노력을 보여준다. 그런데 블룸의 여성적인 특질은 반드시 그의 부정적인 측면을 암시하지는 않는다. 오히려 전통적으로 여성적인 특징이라고 간주되는 동정, 공감, 친절, 사려 깊음 등과 같은 긍정적인 요소들을 보여 줌으로써, 블룸은 소설 내에서는 거의 유일하게 남성적인 특성과 여성적인 특성이 비교적 이상적으로 융합된 인물로 나타난다. 이 논문의 목적은 블룸의 성적인 정체성이 일반적인 기준에서 어느 정도 벗어나는가를 조사하는 동시에 블룸의 일탈을 통해서 더블린의 남성 중심적인 사회를 비판하는 조이스의 의도를 살펴보는 것이다. "키클롭스(Cyclops)" 에피소드에서 작가가 전통적인 남성상을 아이러니컬하게 다루는 방식으로 판단해 볼 때 조이스는 "레오폴드 폴라 블룸"을 새로운 타입의 인간상으로 소개하는 듯하다. 이 에피소드에서 블룸은 과격한 '시민(the citizen)'으로 대표되는 남성적인 기준들을 따르려고 애쓰기보다는 친절, 동정, 공감, 온건 등과 같이 상대적으로 여성적인 특성들을 보여 준다는 점에서 확실히 새로운 유형의 남자 주인공이 라고 불릴 만 하다. 블룸의 이런 모습은 단순한 조소의 대상이 아니다. 오히려 그의 인도적인 평화주의는 강경론자들의 사회에 결핍된 인간애를 메워 줄 수 있는 중요한 역할을 한다. 이런 의미에서 조이스의 블룸은 남성 지배적인 더블린의 사회를 비판하는 수단이 된다. 한편 "키르케(Circe)" 에피소드에서 블룸은 수동성, 비굴, 남성에 대한 굴욕적 복종 등과 같이 여성 역할의 소극적인 측면을 보여 준다. 하지만 여성에 대한 이와 같은 부정적인 묘사는 여성이 수동적인 존재라는 개념을 영속시키거나 고착시키기 위한 것이 아니다. "키클롭스" 에피소드에서 조이스가 블룸 이외의 대부분의 남성 등장 인물들을 남성적인 스테레오타입의 부자연스러움을 드러내기 위한 수단으로 사용한 것처럼, "키르케" 에피소드에서 여성화된 블룸의 생각과 행동에 함축된 부정적인 의미는 여성적인 스테레오타입의 경직성을 지적하기 위한 것이다. 양성적인 비전(vision)을 갖게 된 블룸은 결국 "이타카" 에피소드에서 관습적인 남편과 아내의 관계를 초월할 수 있는 마음의 여유와 평정에 도달한다.
