These studies were carried out to obtain the basic factors for the diagnosis of soil sickness. soil chemical properties. the state of disease occurrence. cropping system and manure application in vinyl houses where cucumber. strawberry. tomato. pepper and lettuce plants were cultured and the results of the investigations are as follows. Most soils were inadequate for the vegetable growth because they are below the suitable pH (6-6.5) and required lime applying. The EC are above the suitable value (0. 3mmho/ca). so salt injury is expected and the elimination of accumulated salts is necessary by water-logging and percolation. Many soils are above the suitable value of nitrate content and the content of nitrate must be decreased and N03-N/NH4-N ratio increased by means of irrigation. As for the content of organic matter. most soils are below the proper value (3%) and need the application of much organic matter. Also the phosphate content is below its proper value (10mg/l0g, or 20mg/100g) and needs more application of phosphate fertilizer. The value of CEC (15me/l00g). exchangeable Ca (8me/l00g). Mg (lme/100g), Ca/Mg (equivalent ratio 4-8) is deficient and the degree of base saturation and calcium saturation is low. The increase in the degree of base saturation and the degree of calcium saturation must be done through an applicaton to maintain the balance of Ca/Mg and the increase of CEC through applying organic matter or adding foreign soil. On the other hand there is a tendency to apply too much exchangeable K and so in most soils exchangeable K is not deficient but above suitable standard (0.3-0.6 me/l00g). This resulted in the improper standard of Mg/K ratio (e:}uivalent ratio 2). The disease occurrence in vinyl houses is comparatively high and must be decreased by the improvement of chemical properties of soils and growth environment. The cropping system of continuous cropping may cause plant inhibition and so another cropping system and growth technique need to be developed.
