Paper : Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Waste Ground Nut-shell Reinforced Polyester Composites
( M. N. Prabhakar ),( Atta Ur Rehman Shah ),( Jung Il Song ) 한국복합재료학회 2015 Composites research Vol.28 No.3
In the current study explain about the bio-based composites made by groundnut shell as reinforcement with polyester resin matrix. Groundnut shell is an abundantly available natural waste byproduct and poly ester resin is widely used to fabricate of composites for good balance of mechanical properties because it is relatively low price and ease of handling. Evaluate the mechanical properties of manufactured groundnut shell/polyester composites by varying the amounts (wt %) of groundnut shell. Particulate shell reinforced polyester composites incorporating varying amounts of groundnut shell (5, 10, 15 and 20%) were characterized for their tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact strength. The mechanical properties improved with increasing particle loading up to 15% and decreased thereafter. Increasing in strength with increased particle shell loading was attributed to increase in surface area which enhanced load transfer between the polyester matrix and ground shall particulates. Scanning electron microscopic studies have been carried out to study the morphology of the composite. Thermal studies and water absorption properties of the composites also studied in this paper.

A wheel nut wrench is one of the hand tools used to loosen and tighten lug nuts on automobile wheels and it has generally a solid-type geometry for commercial vehicles. However, the solid-type wheel nut wrenches manufactured by hot forging processes exhibit several drawbacks such as heavy weight and rough surface finish. Thus, many efforts have been devoted to change the part geometry and improve the manufacturing process. For this purpose, the weight of the final product can be reduced drastically using a hollow tube as the initial stock, which can be manufactured by the more economical manufacturing process of cold forging. In this study, the cold forging of a hollow-type wheel nut wrench for commercial vehicles was designed based on the results of fundamental experiments and CAE analyses using the commercial finite element code DEFORM-3D. In addition, cold forging experiments were conducted on a special-purpose forming machine for hollow wheel nut wrenches in order to validate the designed process sequence. As results, it was found that the final products with a weight reduction of 39% and better surface appearance can be manufactured without any defect with the newly designed cold forging process.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of region and age on nut quality of major chestnut cultivars (Castanea spp.) cultivated in the central region of Korea to provide basic data for nut quality control and processing of postharvest. In the survey of by regions and ages, Buyeo and ``Hyogo57`` showed the highest value by regions and cultivars, respectively. Also, there were statistically significant differences among regions and cultivars in the value of soluble solid content and kernel hardness. In the soluble solid content, Gongju showed the highest value among regions, and ``Tsukuba`` among cultivars was the highest, 20.5%. Cheongyang showed the highest value of kernel hardness among regions, and ``Tanzawa`` among cultivars showed the lowest value of kernel hardness, 8.75 kg/cm2. In ``Tanzawa``, ``Okkwang`` and ``Tsukuba``, soluble solid content and kernel hardness showed statistically significant differences according to age, but no correlation with age.
